When Melania Trump found out that she was pregnant with Barron, it came as a surprise, as she and Donald Trump weren’t trying to start a family together so soon.
“I told him [Donald] he’d be a daddy. And his reaction was ... at first he needed to take it in. It was a real surprise. And then he was very happy,” Melania told People magazine.
Initially, Barron attended school not too far from the family’s residence at Trump Tower in NYC; however, it all changed when Donald decided to run for president.
Barron was forced to switch schools and move to Washington, D.C. when Donald was elected president in 2016, and again in 2021, when his father lost re-election.
Once he moved to the White House at the age of nine, Barron’s life evidently changed and he became a target for every paparazzi lens within filming distance.
“He [Barron] does love New York and he loves his school. Not so much living in the White House,” Donald told People magazine in 2016. “It’s a little scary for him,” he added.
After becoming the First Son, Barron was often the butt of jokes. From late-night television to internet trolls, everyone aimed at him because they didn’t like Donald.
“The youngest Trump doesn’t have any responsibilities as the president’s son, but the least he could do is dress the part,” reporter Ford Springer wrote in the Daily Caller.
Since becoming the First Son, Barron hasn’t been able to go anywhere without someone in a suit keeping an eye on him and his surroundings, ensuring his safety.
Even years after leaving the White House, Barron still had this layer of protection, because of the Former Presidents Protection Act of 2012, until he turned 17.
