In May 2016, police flocked to the El Moussa home when Tarek allegedly fled from the house with a gun, after which Christina left the house sobbing. Tarek claimed that he just wanted to hunt animals to “blow off some steam, and the couple called the incident “an unfortunate misunderstanding.”
A source said that Tarek and Christine are “wildly incompatible [...] She has champagne tastes, and he's a beer-from-a-can kind of guy.” Allegedly, once “Flip or Flop” got big, Christina started spending a lot of money, but Tarek “just couldn't or didn't want to keep up” with her lifestyle.
The El Moussas have hosted real estate seminars on flipping houses, and customers have called for investigation, with one woman claiming the program "suckered her" out of more than $41,000. Tarek and Christina have denied any shady dealings, but that kind of stress can put strain on a marriage.
Tarek was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2013 and testicular cancer in 2017, and he confessed that the ordeal took a toll on his marriage: “we were so busy, we never slowed down to be present with each other and talk about things that were bothering us."
Christina went through two failed attempts at IVF before giving birth to her and Tarek’s second son. She said she and Tarek “went through a lot in a short amount of time [...] The tension between me and Tarek was high. We weren't able to properly communicate anymore.”
