THE REAL REASON MARISKA HARGITAY ONCE GOT ARRESTED
By KAYLA RIVERA
Mariska Hartigay, AKA Detective Olivia Benson on "Law and Order: SVU," is one of prime time TV's biggest stars, but once upon a time, she was just a student at UCLA — and despite her most iconic role being a law enforcement official, Hartigay actually has an arrest record. This is the wild story of her brief stint in jail.
In the 1980s, while attending UCLA's acting program, Hargitay got the rare opportunity to appear in the "She Loves My Car" music video for rising country singer Ronnie Milsap. However, before the night was over, Hargitay was picked up and arrested by cops for having a slew of unpaid parking tickets.
Hartigay's roommate, Jennifer Barker told E! that her friend had a bad habit of parking wherever she wanted, and paid the price by being taken into custody. "They put her in the back of the car and took her to jail," Barker recalled, adding that Hartigay was still wearing her flamboyant outfit for the music video shoot.
To say Hartigay had a comeback from her silly mistake would be an understatement. She's been nominated for an Emmy eight times for "SVU," winning Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2006, and was even crowned one of Glamour's 2021 Women of the Year.
