According to the Mirror, Keanu Reeves first met Jennifer Syme in 1998. The duo soon began dating and a year later, Syme became pregnant with their baby.

Unfortunately, their daughter, Ava Archer, was stillborn. Syme suffered from postnatal depression and struggled to cope with the loss, leading to her breakup with Reeves.

Adding to the tragedy, two years later, Syme crashed into three parked cars while driving under the influence and was declared dead at the scene.

“When the people you love are gone, you’re alone,” Reeves told Parade in 2006 (via Today). “I miss being a part of their lives and [...] all the great things that will never be.”

Due to the traumatic losses Reeves has experienced, it only makes sense that the actor might not have yet reconsidered his decision to become a parent.
