Gwen Stefani Defends Boyfriend Blake Shelton's 'Sexiest Man Alive' Title Following Criticism
The No Doubt rocker is sticking up for her man.
During her Friday, Dec. 8, 2017 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Gwen Stefani hit back at the haters and defended her boyfriend, Blake Shelton, who was recently named People's "Sexiest Man Alive."
"I feel totally responsible because he's so not that person," the "You Make It Feel Like Christmas" singer quipped, after revealing that she played a major role in Shelton's decision to accept the iconic honor in the first place. "He doesn't even like to do a photo shoot. You can never convince him to do it."
"It was just chaos, craziness," Stefani told DeGeneres while discussing the major social media backlash regarding the magazine's controversial choice. "If you think about it, what defines sexy? It really is so personal, you know what I mean? For me, it's just that big old heart and that sense of humor. He doesn't even take himself seriously, and he's just such an incredible person. And that's sexy to me."
As Nicki Swift previously reported, People made its "Sexiest Man Alive" announcement in mid-November 2017, after which the "God Gave Me You" singer joked that they "must be running out of people." In previous years, the coveted Hollywood title has gone to the likes of Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and Denzel Washington. "Like, wow," he continued. "We're down to somebody who is somewhat symmetrical."
Shelton went on to thank Stefani for encouraging him to agree to the honor. "She goes, 'Listen to me, you're going to regret this for the rest of your life if you don't take this gift and just live in the moment,'" he recounted.
Stefani, 48, and Shelton, 41, began dating in October 2015 after they both split from their respective partners, Gavin Rossdale and Miranda Lambert.
