What Dakota Johnson Stole From The Set Of Fifty Shades

The "Fifty Shades" movie trilogy follows the relationship between college student Anastasia Steele and businessman Christian Grey, portrayed by actors Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, respectively. Throughout the three movies, Johnson's character explores a new lifestyle that Dornan's character is well-versed in, as she's trying to understand why he is the way he is.

"I was 23, so it was scary," Johnson said in an interview with Vanity Fair in June. "I haven't been able to talk about this truthfully ever, because you want to promote a movie the right way, and I'm proud of what we made ultimately and everything turns out the way it's supposed to, but it was tricky." Later in the interview, the actor admitted that the movie was "psychotic," but she had no regrets in the end.

The "The Social Network" actor is the daughter of two famous actors — Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson. Griffith told IndieWire in 2014, "I have not seen 'Fifty Shades of Grey.' I don't think I'm going to see it." The "Working Girl" actor mentioned that her daughter wouldn't allow either of her parents to see the movie, but they did visit the set and got to see the famous red room. Perhaps the parents would be proud of what she stole from the set.

Dakota Johnson stole underwear from the Fifty Shades set

With the many props Dakota Johnson could have stolen from the set of "Fifty Shades of Grey," she chose to take something that she could use in her daily life. "I stole lots of the underwear," Johnson said in a 2015 Glamour UK Twitter Q&A (via Us Weekly). "They were comfortable." The media outlet mentioned that the brand of the underwear was HANRO panties.

The actor also admitted that she stole a more NSFW prop from set. Johnson apparently stole a "flogger" aka a whip, per E! News. "Can I say that on television?" she asked after she revealed what she took. Johnson told Twitter users that the prop is "in the garage with dust."

Although Johnson admitted her underwear was comfortable, she also mentioned a moment where her wardrobe wasn't as pleasant during the filming of the third and final installment, "Fifty Shades Freed." "I had these sort of strapless thongs that had glue on them," Johnson told Marie Claire in 2018. "It's not glue, but it's sticky ... It would also come off because the adhesive would wear out, so then they would super-glue it to my body so that it wouldn't fall off." The actor said that it wasn't painful, but it was "f***ing bizarre." It seems that this experience with underwear would carry on throughout her career.

Dakota Johnson has a history with underwear

Actor Dakota Johnson knows a thing or two about underwear after starring in the "Fifty Shades" trilogy. Even her co-star, Jamie Dornan, said that he got a note or two from Johnson when they were filming the intimate scenes of the movie. The "Belfast" actor mentioned on TBS' "Conan" that Johnson would tell him how to take off her underwear in a more sensual way. And in Johnson's newest movie, "Persuasion," it was revealed that she wore men's underwear.

"We decided that Anne would wear men's underwear because women at that time didn't really have underwear," costume designer Marianne Agertoft told British Vogue in July. "It's inspired by the underwear men would have worn in the army and Dakota felt really at home in it." The costume designer also mentioned that Johnson was all in for wearing both short stays and corsets during the course of shooting the movie.

Jane Austen's "Persuasion" wasn't the first time the "Cha Cha Real Smooth" actor sported men's underwear for a movie. In 2013, Johnson was pictured on the set of "Cymbeline" in "boy shorts," per PopSugar. She was climbing into a room through a window in just a tank top and underwear. It seems that Johnson is comfortable in her underwear, so maybe she'll have more of these kinds of experiences in her career.
