A Complete Timeline Of Kim Kardashian And Pete Davidson's Relationship
Buckle up, because this happens fast. Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson sparked a whirlwind of media buzz with their unlikely relationship, and just as we began wondering if this might be the real deal, they called it quits, all in the span of nine months.
Kardashian filed for divorce from husband Kanye, now known as Ye, West in February 2021 and told Vogue that the decision came after some personal deliberation. "For so long, I did what made other people happy," Kardashian explained. "And I think in the last two years I decided, I'm going to make myself happy. And that feels really good. And even if that created changes and caused my divorce, I think it's important to be honest with yourself about what really makes you happy."
With her contentious divorce from West in the backdrop, Kardashian fell for comedian Pete Davidson, and they seemed blissful together. Kardashian appeared to laugh non-stop with Davidson, making their shared life look light and happy. But it would seem that Davidson knew it was too good to be true from the relationship's inception. Several factors were involved in the romance's demise, and there's a lot to know about these nine months.
SNL was everything
Kim Kardashian hosted "Saturday Night Live" on October 9, 2021, after much hype — and the event was absolutely major. Dave Chappelle and Amy Schumer offered feedback on some of Kardashian's material, according to TMZ, but really, it was all her. Her delivery, content, and outfits were absolutely spot-on. But of all the monologues and skits of the night, the one that's lasted in the cultural subconscious is the Jasmine and Aladdin skit featuring her and Pete Davidson.
Surprisingly, the pair had actually met before this. At the 2021 Met Gala, Kardashian ran into Davidson and admitted to him that she was freaking out. "He was like, 'Can you read cue cards? You're good,'" the SKIMS founder recounted on the first episode of Hulu's "The Kardashians" (via Vulture). Davidson then offered her his number, but there was a hitch. "I had gloves on and I couldn't get in my phone with the gloves and I was like, 'Oh, I have gloves and I can't...' And he was like, 'Alright cool.' And he walked away," she explained to Amanda Hirsch on the "Not Skinny But Not Fat" podcast.
Not to worry, though. The pair got more one-on-one time during their skit on "SNL," where their characters kissed. "When we kissed, I was just like, hmm. ... It was a stage kiss, but it was still like a little zing, you know? ... It wasn't anything like a super crazy feeling. I was just like, hmm," Kardashian said on the podcast. Obviously, it was the beginning of something.
Pete Davidson takes Kim Kardashian to Staten Island
Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson officially became a couple in November 2021, one month after she hosted "Saturday Night Live." Things were still a little fuzzy about how serious they both were, but they were definitely an item. "She is telling some people they aren't super serious but she isn't seeing anyone else," an insider told E! News, adding, "She's trying to not make a big deal about it but is super into him."
Davidson brought Kardashian to his hometown in Staten Island, New York, in November of that year, where they shared sangria, salad, and a margherita pizza on the rooftop of the Campania restaurant, according to The New York Times. Needless to say, the restaurant has since seen a flurry of visitors and tourists hoping to check out the newly-famous spot.
It was actually Kardashian's idea to go to Staten Island, since she was curious about where Davidson grew up, and they ended up visiting more than once. She said on "Live with Kelly and Ryan” that the pizza was definitely a highlight for her and that, surprisingly, they're not hounded by crowds, even when they take the ferry to get on and off the island. "I don't know, it's always been super low-key every time we go to Staten Island," Kardashian said. "I feel like that's the fun part of it. We can just chill and be low-key and ride around and see all the fun hometown stuff."
They celebrated Pete's birthday with Flavor Flav
In November 2021, for Pete Davidson's 28th birthday, Kim Kardashian hosted him at mom Kris Jenner's house in Palm Springs, per People. They were joined, of all the people, by Flavor Flav. The rapper later told ET why he was a part of Davidson's birthday. "When it comes down to Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian, first of all, to me, that's family, you know what I'm saying," Flav told the outlet in December 2021. "And the whole night I was so honored to be in their presence. ... One thing that I could say, Pete Davidson loves himself some Flavor Flav. Everything he does is, 'Flavor Flav this, Flavor Flav that...'"
Flav joked about being the birthday present for Davidson, at Kim K.'s request, and went so far as to gift the "SNL" comedian with his famous clock. "I took my clock from around my neck and I gave it to him, and I never gave a clock to nobody," Flav said. Then Davidson asked the rapper to be his adopted father, and Flav went running with the joke. On Instagram, Flav posted an adorable photo of the four of them. "Celebrating my adopted son Pete Davidson's birthday wit the legendz [Kim Kardashian] and [Kris Jenner]," Flav captioned the pic. Sounds like Davidson got the birthday of his dreams.
They went to the Bahamas together
Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson treated themselves to a vacation together in the Bahamas in early January 2022, according to People. While paparazzi photos of the two of them together show nothing but bliss, the trip was apparently a bit of a stress to plan. Kardashian's husband, Kanye West, now legally known as Ye, continued to pursue her in the midst of her relationship with Davidson. Stories got out later that Ye flew to Miami because Davidson would be there for New Year's to film NBC's "Miley's New Year's Eve Party Hosted by Miley Cyrus and Pete Davidson." Ye assumed that Kardashian would also be in attendance, per Page Six, but it turns out she stayed in Los Angeles with her children that night instead.
Kardashian and Davidson allegedly had initially planned a trip to the Dominican Republic for their getaway, but apparently, West found out. To avoid any uncomfortable run-ins, Kardashian changed the destination last minute. Hence, she and Davidson had some fun in the sun in the Bahamas.
Funny enough, it was while Ye West was in Miami for his impromptu visit that he met Julia Fox, who became his instant (and highly publicized) girlfriend for a hot minute. It might have been a legitimate relationship or it might have been an attempt to get Kardashian's attention. Only Ye and Fox could answer that. But Kardashian and Davidson went on living their best vacation lives in spite of the external drama.
They hit up Jeff Bezos' party
Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian reached another milestone with a very high-profile dinner together at Jeff Bezos' house in late January 2022, TMZ reported. The outlet spotted Kardashian's car pulling into the Amazon founder's home in Los Angeles and later heading toward Davidson's hotel in Beverly Hills. As People notes, the A-lister event appeared to be a family affair, as Kris Jenner also joined the party with partner Corey Gamble.
While it was all looking very glamorous for Davidson and Kardashian, friends close to the SKIMS founder noticed something much more important in her budding relationship with the comedian. She seemed genuinely happy. "She's acting like a teenager," an insider told Page Six. "She's constantly giggling. Pete has made her feel like the clock has moved 20 years back. She seems happy."
What seemed to work so well was that Kardashian didn't see the relationship coming, something she talked about with Hoda Kotb on the "Today" anchor's podcast "Making Space." "I think that, you know, sometimes things happen when you just least expect it. [Dating Pete] was the last thing that I was really planning on," Kardashian said. "And so when it did happen, we were kind of, like, 'Oh, my God, I wasn't planning on this. And this isn't even what I was thinking of,' and it just makes it that much sweeter and so much more fun..." Kardashian added that she couldn't plan every last thing in her life, and embracing the unexpected was what led to this delightful, surprising relationship.
Instagram official
Since Kim Kardashian is the empress of Instagram, it was major news when she finally went official on the site with Pete Davidson. On March 11, 2022, the clouds parted and the heavens shone when she posted her first ever photo with the SNL star. "Whose car are we gonna take?!" she captioned the fun photoshoot, where she wore silver boots and a silver tassel jacket. In the second photo of the series, Davidson is lying in her lap as she makes a kissing face at him. It's one thing to have paparazzi take photos of them. It's a whole different thing to have Kardashian post a photo herself.
Davidson couldn't return the favor with his own photos because he doesn't have social media. In an interview with People in February 2022, he admitted that he doesn't participate with the world in that way. Clearly, opposites attract here! In describing his daily routine, Davidson said: "Well, I don't really have Instagram — I don't have Instagram or Twitter or any of that stuff. So, most of my daily life is getting into cars and showing up to a set." What was even more charming about that particular interview was that it was the first public moment that Davidson called Kardashian his girlfriend.
"Or, if I'm off, I just either hang with my friends or chill with my girlfriend inside. So I don't do much," Davidson added. While it was an anticlimactic statement about his life, it was very monumental that he gave Kardashian the official label.
Texts between Pete Davidson and Ye West get leaked
There was trouble in paradise for Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian. The duo had to grapple with the awkward hurdles of her former husband, Ye West, and his angry messages to Kardashian online. What happened was that their daughter, North West, posted a TikTok video singing along to Machine Gun Kelly and Willow Smith's song "Emo Girl." West jumped on social media to slam Kardashian for allowing it to happen, per Page Six.
Messages were leaked between Davidson and West as the former defended Kardashian and asked West to stop criticizing her online. "Kim is literally the best mother I've ever met," Davidson texted, per a later publication by Page Six. "What she does for those kids is amazing and you are so f***ing lucky that she's your kids mom. I've decided [I'm] not gonna let you treat us this way anymore and I'm done being quiet. Grow the f*** up." When West texted back, "Oh you using profanity now. Where are you right now?" Davidson responded, "In bed with your wife." Zing!
The two continued to go at it, with Davidson saying that he was in Los Angeles and would be open to meeting up with West in person. And to Davidson's credit, he also offered assistance. "Let me help you man. I struggle with mental stuff too," he wrote to West. "It's not an easy journey, You don't have to feel this way anymore, There's no shame in having a little help." It was certainly an intense text exchange!
Pete's tattoos
We all knew that Pete Davidson was a tattoo man, but we didn't predict how many tattoos he would get for Kim Kardashian. The comedian got one in honor of their first kiss during a skit on "Saturday Night Live," inking "Jasmine" and "Aladdin" with an infinity symbol in between the two names. He also got a minimal one that read "knscp" for Kardashian's first name and the first initials of her children's names: North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm, via Metro. Right under his clavicle, Davidson also got "my girl is a lawyer," referencing Kardashian's ongoing studies towards law.
Kardashian gushed about Davidson's permanent recognition of their relationship in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres in March 2022. "Yeah, he has a few tattoos — a few cute ones that he got," Kardashian shared on DeGeneres' show. She dished about an even more permanent way that Davidson showed his affection. He got "KIM" branded on his chest. "He wanted to do something that was really different," Kardashian said, noting that when he got his first few tattoos for her, she took it in stride. "I'm like, 'Oh, that's so cute,' but that's what tattoo people do, right? They get tattoos of what's going on in their life."
Kardashian said that Davidson decided to get branded because he wanted something he couldn't get rid of, since he's in the process of removing many of his previous tattoos on his arms and neck. What a way to show love!
Kim meets Pete's family
Things took an even more serious step for Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson in April 2022. She was In New York City with the comedian and, per their routine, they visited his hometown on Staten Island. Since they were in the area, Kardashian got to meet Davidson's grandparents, TMZ reported. The meetup was monumental for Davidson. "It was definitely [the] next step in their relationship, and he's overjoyed with getting to introduce his family to Kim," a source told Us Weekly.
Meanwhile, Davidson was a sure fit in the Kardashian clan. When the family sat down with Robin Roberts of "Good Morning America" in April 2022, Kris Jenner said, "Pete's great. Pete's great. He's a really nice guy." Sister Khloé Kardashian said, "He just makes her laugh and she laughs all the time." Obviously, Davidson got the relative stamp of approval, thanks to the joy everyone could see on Kim's face.
Even Scott Disick, who shares three children with sister Kourtney Kardashian, has grown fond of Davidson and gave a thumbs-up on the relationship. "[Disick's] glad he has another male to lean on when it comes to the Kardashians," an inside source told Us Weekly. "Scott is protective of Kim and wants to make sure whoever she's dating that she's in good hands." If we know anything about the Kardashians, we know that family is everything to them, so to have the entire clan give the relationship their blessing — we know it's good.
Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian's first red carpet appearance
In late April 2022, Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian walked their first red carpet together at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner in Washington, D.C., per People. Because of her and her family's Hulu reality show, "The Kardashians," Kim K. was invited at the behest of ABC. Since Kardashian had already gone Instagram official with Davidson, she posted several shots of the pair at the event and captioned the series: "White House din din."
Speaking of their reality show, Davidson had previously joined Kardashian at the premiere for her new series in April 2022. However, this particular event didn't count as their first red carpet appearance since Davidson didn't accompany Kardashian on the carpet that night. But he was certainly there. Kardashian explained this to E! News and joked that Davidson was hiding. "He's here to support me," she said. "It's my thing. I don't think it's like his thing to be all out here with me. So, I'm just so happy he's here to support."
The outlet also asked Kardashian if she'd hesitated to discuss him on the season, and the reality star explained that she certainly felt some hesitation, as she didn't want something casual making its way onto her family show. But by the time "The Kardashians" premiered, Davidson and Kardashian were anything but casual. Nevertheless, the Staten Island native gave his girlfriend the space to shine that night.
Did Kim talk about having kids with Pete?
Internet sleuths picked up on a tell-tale sign that Kim Kardashian might have been thinking about having kids with Pete Davidson. She and her family had a joint interview with Access, and the interviewer asked about Davidson. "Let's talk about Mr. Pete. [Is he] here for the long time or the good time?" she asked Kardashian. "All of the above, hopefully," was Kardashian's response.
After that, the whole family played a "Most Likely" game, and each Kardashian or Jenner had to hold up a picture of the family member who fit the description. When the group was asked who was most likely to have as many kids as mom Kris Jenner (six kids in total!), most of the group held up a photo of Kourtney Kardashian, since she had just been talking about having more kids with Travis Barker. But Kim held up two photos, one of herself and one of Kourtney. Fans quickly guessed that Kim was planning on expanding her brood of four children with Davidson.
Davidson also started speaking about fatherhood. On "Hart to Heart" with Kevin Hart in July 2022, Davidson said he surely sees himself as a family man. "My favorite thing ever, which I have yet to achieve," he began, "is I want to have a kid." When Davidson joked that it was a corny dream, Hart jumped in to say that having a kid is the best thing you can do in life. Certainly sounds like a heart to heart.
The Met Gala was everything for the couple
Probably the peak of their relationship, at least in terms of public appearance, was Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian's Met Gala outing in May 2022. Kardashian famously wore Marilyn Monroe's glittering nude dress. The iconic gown, which Monroe donned to sing happy birthday to John F. Kennedy, belongs to Ripley's Believe It or Not! in Orlando, Florida. Kardashian was allowed to borrow the garment, but she was not allowed to alter it. Davidson joined Kardashian at a fitting, and when the dress didn't fit, he jumped in to calm her down, per TMZ. He was at her side urging her to relax and take deep breaths. He held her hand and talked her out of a backup dress because he said it looked like it belonged in a "Halloween party."
Since the Monroe dress wouldn't zip over Kardashian's butt, they came up with a solution. She walked the red carpet with a vintage fur coat to cover the open zipper. As soon as she and Davidson finished walking the red carpet, Kardashian quickly changed into a replica of the dress, according to Page Six, that fit her properly and meant she could relax for the rest of the evening, lest she spill something on it.
The pair really let loose after the gala, which was preceded by a grueling workout routine and stringent diet so that Kardashian could fit into the gown. With the lavish event behind her, she and Davidson wound down with pizza and donuts in their hotel room, per Vogue, and no doubt a huge sigh of relief.
The Megan Fox bit
Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly play a very funny role in the relationship between Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson. On an episode of "The Kardashians," we all discovered that Davidson had actually reached out to Fox months before he and Kardashian ever linked up to ask for the reality star's number. "After we got together and it was a thing, Megan Fox texted me and is like, 'Is this s*** for real? Because he asked me for your number months ago,'" Kardashian said in the episode (via People).
Kardashian recalled what Fox had texted Davidson: "Dude, you have a better shot of me and MGK getting eaten by crocodiles than you [do] ever getting her number. Never gonna happen. Do not ask us." Clearly, Fox is taking no prisoners when it comes to her girlfriends.
While Davidson was obviously interested in Kardashian long before, the star admitted that ultimately, she was the one who had to get Davidson's number, because he didn't attend the afterparty following their "Saturday Night Live" performance. Since she missed the chance to ask him then, Kardashian had to get creative. "A few days later, I called the producer at 'SNL,' and I was like, 'Hey, do you have Pete's number?' And they were like, 'Yeah,'" Kardashian explained on her reality show (via Teen Vogue). She took matters into her own gloves and lord knows, we love our gals taking the lead!
The break-up
While everything looked like it was moving full steam ahead, Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson shocked us when they announced their split in early August 2022. What was confusing about it was that only days earlier, E! News wrote about Kardashian's visit to Australia to spend time with Davidson. A source for the outlet claimed that the long distance wasn't an obstacle for them.
Clearly, things changed, because it wasn't long after that they parted ways. News broke that the long distance was partially a factor in the demise of their romance, along with rigorous work schedules, a later publication by E! News noted. After all, Davidson lives in New York while Kardashian is in Los Angeles with four children. She didn't have the luxury of spontaneity that he had. But it wasn't just that.
Apparently, things were moving too quickly for Kardashian who, to be fair, was hot on the heels of her divorce from Ye West. "They had tons of chemistry, and still do, but she kind of wants to be single and date," an insider told ET, adding that neither feels any animosity towards the other. The insider added that Kardashian was only expecting a fling at first. But then it started to get too serious. "Kim wasn't feeling like she was willing to settle down with him just yet," the source added. As far as we know, that's the end of the Kardashian-Davidson era. What's he going to do about all those tattoos and the branding? Maybe carry the scar as a memory of an era long gone.
