Celeb Cheaters Who Got Caught In The Act
Cheating on your loved one inevitably comes with the risk of getting caught. These celebrities learned that lesson the hard way after their affairs were exposed to the public, through events that ranged from sneaky paparazzi shots to alleged extortion attempts. From Jason Aldean to Kristen Stewart, relieve the many celebrities who got caught cheating in the act.
Kristen Stewart
Kristen Stewart famously got caught cheating on her Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson in the summer of 2012, when Us Weekly obtained photos of Stewart kissing her married Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders. The cheating scandal proved to be destructive for both Stewart and Sanders' relationships; Sanders and his wife, Liberty Ross, split that year, while Stewart and Pattinson called it quits in May 2013.
Stewart later described her split from Pattinson as "incredibly painful." Pattinson, meanwhile, took a much more straight-forward approach, bluntly telling British Esquire in 2014 that "s*** happens."
Jason Aldean
Country singer Jason Aldean's nearly 12-year marriage to wife Jessica Ussery came to a crashing halt after Aldean was photographed kissing another woman at a Hollywood bar in September 2012. A year after filing for divorce, Aldean shocked everyone when he actually struck up a full-blown relationship with that lady, an aspiring singer named Brittany Kerr. The duo made its first public appearance at the CMT Music Awards in June 2014, sparking an online backlash that lives on today. Despite dealing with constant "haters," as Aldean calls them, the couple has endured. They got engaged in September 2014 and said "I do" the following March.
They're still together today.
Katharine McPhee
In October 2013, American Idol alum Katharine McPhee was caught kissing her former Smash director Michael Morris while they were both married to other people. Although McPhee reportedly tried to make amends with her husband, Nick Cokas, at the time, she wound up filing for divorce in May 2014, citing irreconcilable differences.
That divorce proved to be a pretty tricky one. According to TMZ, McPhee claimed she was on a break from Cokas when the kissing scandal happened, while Cokas claimed they were not. Their divorce was not finalized until February 2016.
McPhee, who later admitted to having "no regrets" about her cheating scandal, would go on to date her Scorpion co-star Elyes Gabel for two years, until they split in July 2016. She's since been linked to music producer David Foster. As for Morris? By all accounts, he's still married to his wife, actress Mary McCormack.
LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian
In 2009, Us Weekly caught Northern Lights co-stars Eddie Cibrian and LeAnn Rimes having an affair after obtaining security footage of a romantic date they had gone on in Laguna Beach, Calif. At the time, they were both married to other people (to Brandi Glanville and Dean Sheremet, respectively).
Despite the insane media scandal that followed, Cibrian and Rimes weathered the storm and wound up marrying in April 2011. Still, their affair continues to haunt them, mostly through their ongoing feuds with their former spouses (who, incidentally, became friends and reality TV co-stars). Their feud with Glanville has been especially fraught over the years, and by all accounts, doesn't seem to be dying down anytime soon.
Benjamin Maisani
In August 2012, Anderson Cooper's boyfriend of many years, Benjamin Maisani, was caught kissing another man in a park in New York City. The incident occurred a little over a month after Cooper finally confirmed that he is gay. Although Cooper was reported to have been hurt by the scandal at the time, he and Maisani initially appeared to weather that storm. However, in March 2018, Cooper announced in a statement that he and Maison "separated as boyfriends some time ago." He added, "We are still family to each other, and love each other very much. We remain the best of friends, and will continue to share much of our lives together."
Sienna Miller
Sienna Miller shocked the world in the summer of 2008 when she was photographed kissing Brothers & Sisters star Balthazar Getty, who was married with four children at the time. According to Us Weekly, Getty separated from his wife, Rosetta, amid the scandal and proceeded to date Miller through May 2009, even though public opinion wasn't exactly, you know, favorable.
Getty and his wife reconciled shortly thereafter. "Here's the bottom line: It was a very challenging time for everybody involved," he told Harper's Bazaar (via Us Weekly) in October 2010. "But I loved and missed my family too much not to make it work. Rosetta is understanding enough and spiritual enough to let us try. In a way it-–I don't know ... I feel like we're better than we've ever been."
Miller later expressed remorse about her actions in a 2009 interview with GQ UK, admitting (via Us Weekly), "The situation I got into was not ideal, but it happened and if I could go back and be more responsible, I would." Getty, meanwhile, told the Evening Standard (via People) in 2016 that his affair with Miller went on to make his marriage "stronger."
Hugh Grant
Of all the cheating scandals in Hollywood, few were more embarrassing than the time when British actor Hugh Grant was arrested for trying to solicit a 23-year-old prostitute in June 1995.
Although he avoided jail time for the incident, Grant, who was just becoming a huge star in Hollywood, couldn't escape the fallout from the media and public, which was no doubt influenced by the fact that he was dating one of the most beautiful women at the time, Elizabeth Hurley. Nowhere else was this more perfectly captured than on Grant's visit to The Tonight Show later that year, during which host Jay Leno asked, "What the hell were you thinking?"
Remarkably, Grant and Hurley continued to date until their split in 2000, per Us Weekly. In fact, during multiple interviews in recent years, Hurley has referred to Grant as her "best friend."
Kevin Hart
Comedian Kevin Hart shocked everyone in September 2017, when he posted a video to Instagram in which he admitted that someone had recently tried to make a "financial gain" off a bad decision he had made.
"I'm at a place in my life where I feel like I have a target on my back," he said in the video. "And because of that I should make smart decisions. And recently, I didn't. You know, I'm not perfect. I'm not going to sit up here and say that I am or claim to be in any way shape or form." Hart continued, "I made a bad error in judgement and I put myself in a bad environment where only bad things can happen and they did. And in doing that I know that I'm going to hurt the people closest to me, who've I talked to and apologized to, that would be my wife and my kids."
TMZ quickly discovered that Hart was referring to a failed extortion attempt over a video in which he and a woman allegedly took part in "'sexually suggestive' conduct." And yet, despite the messy drama that followed, Hart remains married to his wife, Eniko Parrish (who, by the way, was about eight months pregnant the time the scandal leaked). In an October 2017 post to Instagram, Hart, who has been accused of cheating in the past, thanked God for "this beautiful strong woman" to whom he was "lucky enough to still be calling my wife today."
