A Timeline Of Kourtney Kardashian And Travis Barker's Relationship

Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker blew the lid off of love and brought us all along for the ride. The couple shared their budding relationship on social media, on the red carpet, on reality TV, and pretty much anywhere else they could, and we are as firmly invested in the longevity of this relationship as if we were family. However, that doesn't mean there haven't been a few bumps in the road. Their red carpet vibe is basically making out as if there aren't cameras around. Even Kardashian's kids, whom she shares with ex Scott Disick, asked if she and Barker could cool it on the PDA during an episode of "The Kardashians." Clearly, not everyone's as jazzed about the constant smooching as they are.

Nevertheless, they've brought together their families to create one big, happy unit. Barker is a father to three children: Landon and Alabama, whom he shares with his ex-wife, Shanna Moakler, and a stepdaughter, Atiana. Meanwhile, Kardashian and Disick share Mason, Penelope, and Reign. Together, they make an impressive blended family. But this clearly is no problem for Kardashian or Barker, as both gush about their children non-stop. In fact, in 2019, Barker jumped on Twitter to share his joy. "I love being a Dad more than anything, best thing to have ever happened in my entire life," he tweeted. "Love you Alabama, Landon and Atiana." So, with their brood in tow, Barker and Kardashian rode off into the sunset in a really glamorous way.

They've known each other for 15 years

While the love between Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian might seem new, they've known each other for a long time. Way back in 2006, Barker was dating Paris Hilton, and for history buffs of pop culture and reality TV, everyone knows that at this time, Kim Kardashian was working for Hilton. "Kim was Paris' assistant," Barker told Us Weekly. "She got all of Paris' belongings together wherever we traveled."

Even though Barker and Hilton were an item at the time, he admitted that Kardashian caught his eye. "How could you not stare at Kim? Mind you, I enjoyed hanging out with Paris, but I love curvy girls," Barker said. "Kim was eye candy. I was no way disrespectful to Paris, but I couldn't keep my eyes off Kim!" Naturally, their budding friendship meant that Barker met the rest of the Kardashian clan, too.

Interestingly, Barker played a small role in supporting the Kardashian family's beginnings with reality TV. He and then-wife Shanna Moakler had a reality TV show called "Meet the Barkers" that ran from 2005-2006, so when Kardashian approached him with an idea for their own show, Barker was in full support. "Kim was like, 'I really want to do this reality show. We're supposed to do it with Ryan Seacrest. I just think my family's interesting,'" Barker said of their conversation. Well, it turns out he was spot-on in encouraging the venture. Nothing ever came of Barker's crush on Kardashian. That, of course, would get saved for a different sister, years later.

Travis Barker moved near Kourtney Kardashian

While Travis Barker was introduced to the entire Kardashian family through Kim Kardashian, he and Kourtney Kardashian became close, and their kids bonded, too. In 2017, Barker told ET that he and daughter Alabama had dinner with Jennifer Lawrence and the Kardashians. It made sense because Barker had moved near both Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian's houses. Thanks to the proximity, Barker's kids bonded with Kourtney's kids.

But Kourtney wasn't single while all of this was going on. From 2016 to 2018, she was dating model Younes Bendjima, but they allegedly split, as Page Six reports, because he was critical of her more sultry Instagram pics. Kourtney posted a bikini photo with the caption, "don't be shady, be a lady," and Bendjima replied: "[That's] what you need to show to get likes?" He quickly deleted his comment and they broke up shortly after.

For his part, Barker had previously been in a relationship with Rita Ora but that ended in 2015, according to the Daily Mail, with the Blink-182 drummer saying, "I don't have that longing to be in a relationship 24/7." He and Ora met at a basketball game in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Barker's ex-wife, Shanna Moakler, touched on that relationship when she told the Daily Mail: "He constantly cheated on me. Living with him was like being on a rollercoaster — he's a Jekyll and Hyde character. I wish Rita good luck — she'll need it." But the fling between Barker and Ora lasted no more than a month.

Kourtney Kardashian had to make the first move

Speculation started buzzing about a romance between Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian in January 2021. The drummer began leaving flirty responses to Kardashian's sexy Instagram selfies, Us Weekly notes. And while the social media flirtation was great, we didn't get the full scoop of what was happening until much later.

On the first episode of Hulu's "The Kardashians," she dished what went down to get the ball rolling. "I was definitely always attracted to Travis," Kardashian said during the episode, (via PopSugar). "I just think it was the right time in my life. I had taken like a year to myself, but my closest best friends have always said, 'You have to hook up with Travis.'"

Kardashian adorably said that prior to, she and Barker would "play house," by bringing their kids together for activities and going to church as a group. But when it finally came time to act, it was Kardashian who made the first move. "We were texting, and so I just put it out there, like flirtatious conversation," she said. "Finally, once I made it known, he asked me to watch a movie, and the whole movie, he didn't make a move." When he put on another film, Kardashian didn't have the patience to sit through another flick without anything happening. "I was like, 'I don't have time for this movie marathon.' So, I made the first move," she admitted. Get it, girl! That strategy clearly worked.

Dating confirmed!

Rumors about Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker's relationship were confirmed in January 2021 by Us Weekly. People got suspicious when Kardashian posted an evening photo from Kris Jenner's Palm Springs home and Barker posted a photo with the same view, just taken during the day.

With all of the internet detectives out there piecing it together, it wasn't long before their romance became official. "They're in Palm Springs together," an insider told People. "They've been dating for about a month or two. They've been friends for a long time but it's turned romantic." The insider added, "Travis has liked her for a while." From the beginning, the relationship was different for the couple. In the first episode of "The Kardashians," the Poosh founder said, "The second we fell in love, I think we knew how different it was from anything either of us have ever had before . . . we absolutely see a future together," (via PopSugar).

This certainly seemed evident. Kardashian split from longtime partner Scott Disick in 2015 and Barker and Shanna Moakler broke up in 2008. Barker spoke with Vice about the deterioration of that relationship during their reality TV show, "Meet the Barkers." He said, "It wasn't really an issue until I realized Shanna and I were kinda on the outs. I don't know if it was the show or the pressure of our relationship ... but I knew where I stood and I knew I had to leave ... I honestly believe in my heart we wouldn't have worked out regardless. We're just two different people."

How the couple used Instagram to showcase their love and endorse their brands

Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker went Instagram official on February 16, 2021, with a photo of their clasped hands. Kardashian didn't worry about captioning the photo, assuming that the heavily tattooed hand of Barker's was information enough. And we all definitely got it.

With the Instagram solidification came another element of modern dating: promoting each other's brands. In one of her Instagram stories, per Us Weekly, Kardashian wore a sweatshirt and added the name to Barker's company, Barker Wellness Co. His company sells vegan, cannabis-infused products like CBD gummies, tinctures for maintenance, recovery, or sleep, and balms for pain relief and muscle therapy.

It's a nice pairing, really, with Kardashian's own brand, Poosh, which is all about the wellness lifestyle, so clearly the two are on the same page with what's important to them, and what's important to sell. But Kardashian isn't the only sporting merch from her significant other. In April 2022, she posted a series of photos on Instagram of her and Barker in Camp Poosh hoodies. Naturally, there were some added PDA photos in the hoodies too because what else did we expect? Their first Instagram post broke the seal for future photos together and, man, do they love to share their love and their brands. Hey, we're not complaining.

The couple starts double dating

Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker decided that it was time to start double dating in March 2021, when they attended a UFC game in Las Vegas. They were joined by Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly and it seemed like the date sparked several other hangouts and joint ventures.

In September 2021, Kim Kardashian's line Skims featured a photoshoot with Fox and the Poosh founder, feeding each other cherries and eating an apple together. Fox later spoke about Kardashian and Barker's relationship with Glamour and joked that no one else can get in there. "They're magnetic," Fox said. "So nobody's really interacting with them too much, because they're just stuck. They're stuck together like this [gesturing a magnetic attraction]." But Fox explained that the foursome isn't exactly hanging around together all the time. "We don't have a lot of double dates," she added. "I mean, between all of us, there's 900 kids!"

For Kelly, the relationship with Barker has been a monumental one as well, especially since they're both musicians. "[Barker] showed me that I can attain a lot of the same highs that I search for elsewhere in music, because since his plane crash, he took the road to becoming sober," Kelly told Nylon. Kelly added that he completely admires Barker, both as an artist and a friend. "[Barker] encouraged me to be in the studio and start to find highs in the music." That sounds like a really generative friendship.

Old rumors surface involving Kim Kardashian

Travis Barker has opened up more than once about his attraction to Kim Kardashian prior to dating Kourtney Kardashian. In his 2015 memoir, "Can I Say: Living Large, Cheating Death, and Drums, Drums, Drums," Barker wrote about a trip he took with Paris Hilton, with Kim in attendance. "I kept on secretly checking out Kim, telling Lil Chris, 'I don't care if she's the closet girl,'" he wrote, (via Us Weekly). Despite his infatuation with Kim, Barker said that he never tried anything with her and was a perfect gentleman. He also said that Kim was super sweet.

This wasn't what his ex-wife, Shanna Moakler, said. In 2021, she turned to Us Weekly with allegations of an affair between her then-husband and Kim. "I divorced my ex because, I saw them — I caught them having an affair," Moakler claimed. "Someone sent me all their [text] conversations and I'm also close friends with people who were there, while things were happening," she added, citing alleged receipts, explaining that the affair took place before "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" ever aired.

However, Kim has denied these allegations and an insider told Page Six that there are simply no grounds for Moakler's declaration. "Anyone who is close to them has always known that Travis has been in love with Kourtney for forever [not Kim]," the insider stressed. So it seems like all that smoke was missing the fire.

Travis Barker's first flight after surviving a crash

In 2008, Travis Barker survived a plane crash in North Carolina that killed his bodyguard, Charles "Che" Still, and assistant, Chris Baker, as well as the two pilots, TMZ notes. He and Adam Michael Goldstein, DJ AM, survived but the DJ died one year after the crash from an overdose. Barker sustained serious burns from the crash on more than half of his body.

The harrowing experience left Barker with survivor's guilt in addition to the grief of losing so many people. "It was like an identity crisis: 'Am I supposed to be here, was I supposed to die, was it a mistake?'" he told Vice in 2015. "I obviously never take life for granted now, but at the same I don't sit around every day going, 'Should I have died in a plane crash?' There's days I forget. And I'm happy I do. And then there's days where it's really bad and I can't forget about it." Barker said that he would never fly again.

But once his relationship with Kourtney Kardashian became serious, Barker had to reconsider after she said how much she wanted to see the world with him, so he made her a deal. "I said, 'Well, when the day comes you want to fly, I'm telling you I'll do it with you. I would do anything with you. And just give me 24 hours' notice.' And that's what she did," he told Nylon. So in August 2021, Barker flew for the first time in 13 years with Kardashian by his side.

Blending their families

Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian have mastered the art of blending families. Barker spoke about his eldest daughter, Atiana, whom he raised since she was two years old, and his other children, Landon and Alabama, on "The Drew Barrymore Show." Adorably, he didn't have any complaints about homeschooling them during the pandemic. "We get to spend so much time with them," he said smiling.

Barrymore asked him about dating with kids and whether Barker thought it was easier dating someone who was a parent or someone who didn't have kids. "I've done both," he began. Barker explained that dating someone without kids presented challenges, with the partner potentially not understanding why he isn't continuously available. "Now I'm spending time with a woman who's a great mom, who's a great friend, and you don't have to worry about any of those things." Barker also said that it's healthy for a relationship to miss the other person and with the business of kids, you get that vital time apart.

But Barker has also connected with Kardashian's kids. He told Nylon that he was teaching her daughter, Penelope Disick, how to play the drums. "When she wants to learn then, or learn something new, I like being there to fill that little space, that creative space in her head," he said of her musical interest. "I think next, she's just going to record something at the studio." Barker's love of their blended families comes from his innate love of fatherhood. "I feel like being a dad, just nothing compares."

Travis Barker proposes on the beach

Travis Barker proposed to Kourtney Kardashian in October 2021 on a beach in Montecito, California. The entire Kardashian family was in on the secret, as Barker reached out to Kris Jenner and Khloe Kardashian on an episode of "The Kardashians" to make sure that they were all available. "I love you guys and I love Kourt, and I've never felt more sure about anything in my life," Barker said to them over the phone, per Billboard. Sure enough, Kourtney's family was in attendance and two of Barker's children came while he proposed to her at sunset. He planned an elaborate display of red roses and candles, complete with a "T" and a "K" made out of roses, The Sun notes.

While it was a perfect setting, there was one hiccup when Kourtney called her kids to tell them. Her daughter, Penelope, whom she shares with Scott Disick, started crying at the news and Kourtney later said in a confessional: "Penelope took it hard. I think it's a big change for her and even though she loves Travis, I think she doesn't know what that means. Is that taking me away? I think she doesn't know what it means," per People.

The engagement ring was designed by jeweler Lorraine Schwartz who told a later publication by People that Barker was involved in the whole process. Kourtney admitted in a later episode of "The Kardashians" that she stepped on the ring shortly after, but it was fixed, and harmony was restored.

Travis Barker joins the Kardashians on reality TV

While Travis Barker is no stranger to reality TV, he has become a more consistent presence on "The Kardashians." He did make one appearance on their earlier show, "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" but that was, of course, just as a family friend. Since then, Barker's been a major part of the series as the new love interest. Kris Jenner spoke on "The Ellen Show" in April 2022 and she and DeGeneres joked how the two are always making out. "It is 98% of the new show," Jenner agreed, laughing.

Despite their candid and affectionate behavior on screen, Kardashian spoke with Variety in March 2022 about her reluctance to show too much of their relationship. "It's so sacred to me and I am very protective of it," she said. When asked if Barker was reluctant to appear on camera, Kardashian said he was totally fine with it. "He obviously has a full-time job and a full career, so it's not his thing, but I think he's happy to, and we have had so much fun while we've been filming certain things that we're doing, so I'll just invite the producers to come along," she explained.

But it wasn't just filming that Barker got involved in. He and his three children attended the Hulu premiere for "The Kardashians" in Los Angeles, per People, and the whole group came in coordinated black outfits. Clearly, it's a family affair.

Their practice Las Vegas Wedding

It wouldn't be a love story without a Las Vegas moment. Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker got hitched in Sin City around 1:30 A.M. on April 4, 2022, per TMZ. The couple was already there because Barker performed earlier that same night at the Grammys, along with H.E.R., Lenny Kravitz, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis.

They clearly took advantage of the situation and stopped at One Love Wedding Chapel, where they allegedly insisted on an Elvis impersonator to conduct the ceremony and wanted only their own photographers to capture the night. Nevertheless, they shared the goods with fans later on Instagram with Barker adding the caption, "What happens in Vegas." While the ceremony was a total vibe, Kardashian admitted after the fact that they couldn't get a marriage license that night, per People.

Shortly after, on May 16, Kardashian and Barker took things a step further and did, in fact, get legally married in Santa Barbara, California, according to a later publication by People. They shared a stunning series of photos, which Kardashian captioned: "Till death do us part." As a foreshadowing to the wedding dress she wore in Italy, she opted for a white mini-dress with veil and Barker wore all black. In one photo, the newlyweds stand with Kardashian's grandmother, Mary Jo "MJ" Campbell and Barker's father, Randy Barker, who acted as witnesses at the private ceremony. Kris Jenner voiced her support of the second marital event by commenting on Kardashian's post, "I love you."

Will they get invited back to the Met Gala?

2022 was a big year for Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian, as it marked both of their first times at the Met Gala. While the rest of the Kardashian and Jenner clan have been frequent faces of the coveted event, it was an inaugural moment for the two sisters. Naturally, Kourtney walked the red carpet with Travis Barker and the two treated photographers to their make-out session. They wore Thom Browne with Barker in a tuxedo and Kourtney in a deconstructed version of his outfit. "I had all of the elements from his look draped all over me," she said, according to Page Six.

The theme of the night was "In America: An Anthology of Fashion" with aesthetic guidance being "gilded glamor." In a red carpet interview with La La Anthony, Kourtney admitted that she didn't consider this when she and Barker chose their looks. "I honestly didn't really think about it," she told Anthony. While Kourtney was very casual about the theme, fans found her lack of adhesion to dress code to be disrespectful. "Kourtney does not deserve to be there. She literally is just so disrespectful," someone said on Twitter. "Kourtney Kardashian saying she didn't really think about the theme? girl we can tell but don't be so disrespectful," another said. Others joked that this was her first and last invitation to the Met Gala since she and Barker seemed so uninterested in the theme.

Their glamorous wedding in Italy

They finally sealed the deal in Portofino, Italy. Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker had their third (and final, that we know of) wedding ceremony on May 22, 2022 where the function was styled by Dolce & Gabbana, per The New York Times. True to form, it was branded up the wazoo and Launchmetrics noted that it earned the designers over "$25.4 million in Media Impact Value," per the Times.

They exchanged vows at a villa called L'Olivetta, which is actually owned by Dolce & Gabbana. Kardashian wore a lingerie-style mini dress by the designers and a cathedral-length veil, embroidered by hand, Harper's Bazaar notes, with an image of the Blessed Mother taken from a tattoo on Barker's head and the words "family loyalty respect" beneath it. For both the rehearsal dinner and the reception, Kardashian wore black dresses with black veils, opting for the Sicilian widow look.

Barker's three children were there and Kardashian's kids came too. Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly attended the big event as did Mark Hoppus, the vocalist of Blink-182, per CBS News. Rob Kardashian did not attend the wedding "because he doesn't like a spectacle,” an insider told E! News. But the rest of the Kar-Jenner clan was there, all wearing Dolce & Gabbana. And ever the matriarch, Kris Jenner walked Kardashian down the aisle. It looked like an event for the ages and if we've learned anything about Kardashian and Barker as a couple, it's that they love to share their love. Sounds like something to celebrate.
