What All Of Jason Momoa's Exes Have Said About Him
Jason Momoa may be known for his appearances in major films like "Aquaman" or dramatic performances in series like "Game of Thrones," but outside of his acting career, he has established a reputation for being pleasant and teddy-bear like in his personality, which has landed him some strong long-term relationships in his adult life.
Despite growing into one of the biggest blockbuster actors in Hollywood in recent years, the actor has only romanced a few different women while in the public eye. Throughout his career, Momoa has notably dated some famous leading ladies, including "Baywatch: Hawaii" co-star Simmone MacKinnon and "The Cosby Show" actor Lisa Bonet. As of 2022, the actor is dating "Ambulance" and "Baby Driver" actor Eiza González, per People.
While Momoa's relationships with his prior lovers have ended, each of his former flames have had nothing but good things to say when discussing his personality or his character. Here's everything his exes have said about him over the years.
The news that shocked his former fiancée
Before we knew him as Khal Drogo in "Game of Thrones" and the superhero character Aquaman, Jason Momoa was a hunky, young lifeguard in "Baywatch: Hawaii." The actor starred in the show from 1999 to 2001, and while on set, he met actor Simmone Mackinnon. In "Baywatch: Hawaii" Mackinnon played Allie Reese opposite Momoa's character, Jason Ioane, per IMDb.
According to Us Weekly, the pair hit it off shortly after meeting and started dating in 1999. They dated for years and even got engaged in 2004, but not long after Momoa put a ring on it, he met Lisa Bonet, which changed everything. Momoa and Bonet first crossed paths at a LA jazz club in 2005 (via People), though the "Conan the Barbarian" actor had his eyes on Bonet long before meeting her. In an interview with "The Late Late Show With James Corden," he revealed that he had a crush on Bonet since her days on "The Cosby Show" in the 1980s.
Momoa and Mackinnon stayed together until 2006, though the latter was shocked to hear unexpected news not long after their breakup. Following their split, it was revealed that Bonet was expecting a child with Momoa, which did not sit well with his ex-fiancée at first. "Honestly, it's a shock and of course this news has been upsetting, but I have moved on," Mackinnon told Confidential at the time (via Mamma Mia). Bonet welcomed their child Lola in July 2007, and their son, Nakoa-Wolf, the following year, per The Sun.
Lisa Bonet revealed she fell hard and fast for Jason Momoa
Jason Momoa's innocent love for Lisa Bonet started back in his childhood, and for the "High Fidelity" actor, it took just one date for her to fall for him. After famously meeting at an LA jazz club in 2005, Momoa casually asked Bonet for a ride home. He explained the exchange on "The Late Late Show With James Corden," saying, "I convinced her to take me home because I was living in a hotel ... I didn't have a car. I was like 'Yeah, I'm living at this hotel,' it was Cafe 101, [we] sat down, she ordered a Guinness, and that was it."
Bonet had a similar recollection of the night, and revealed to Net-A-Porter just how immediate their connection was. Reflecting on their spontaneous dinner together, she said, "In that moment, love came and it came big, and he did not run as I think a lot of men do." In addition, "The Cosby Show" actor also told the outlet that during their unofficial first date, he lifted her over his shoulder and carried her like a caveman. Judging by Momoa's masculine nature, it definitely adds up.
Lisa Bonet once called Jason Momoa an alpha male
If anyone were to look up the definition of "alpha male" in the dictionary, we think it would be appropriate to have Jason Momoa's name next to it. Throughout his career, he has acted in a handful of tough-guy, kick-butt, masculine films and shows, ranging from "Game of Thrones" to "See." His strong, dominant movie characters aren't just for show on screen, however.
In real life, the actor is the typical outdoorsman and enjoys just about anything that involves some dirt and elbow grease. In a cover story by Men's Journal, Momoa shared just how much he enjoys being outside. "I've been climbing since I was 14. Skateboarding since I was 8. I love the outdoors, camping, I mean — obviously you saw the Airstreams. I used to live out of that one," he told the publication.
Lisa Bonet discussed her then-husband's masculinity with Net-A-Porter, though she went beyond his physical characteristics and capabilities. Instead, the actor reflected on his personality and character, which, according to her, embodies everything that masculinity should be. "What's cool about Jason is that he's an alpha male who stands for love and family," she revealed to the outlet. "Jason embodies a rare form of masculinity in this day and age — he's a leader; he's generous. Just in terms of charisma, physique, the right use of power, responsibility, work ethic, you can go down the line."
Lisa Bonet dropped hints that the pair were separating
Though Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet appeared to be a strong, happy couple, behind the scenes, the two were drifting apart. In a joint statement on Instagram, the pair announced their separation in January 2022. The post, which has since been deleted, read, in part (via Today), "The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other — to be who we are learning to become... our devotion unwavering to this sacred life and our Children."
While the couple's separation may have come as a shock at the time, Bonet actually hinted at their breakup and going solo in a conversation with Marisa Tomei for Interview just weeks prior in December 2021. When discussing their greater purpose and what they're being called to, Bonet revealed that she was on a path of self discovery, telling Tomei, "[I'm] Definitely learning how to be authentically me, learning to be new, and following this invitation from the universe to step into this river of uncertainty." Similar words were used in their announcement of separation, especially the wording that touched on learning and being authentic.
Despite their split, the two are just as close as ever, with Momoa telling Access Hollywood in March 2022 that they would remain family forever.
