Reese Witherspoon Gets Candid About Previous Marriage To Ryan Phillippe
Reese Witherspoon may have gotten married young, but she has no regrets.
The Big Little Lies star opened up about her former marriage to Ryan Phillippe during an appearance on ITV's Lorraine on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017. "I got married when I was 23 and I had two kids by the time I was 27," the 41-year-old said, while promoting her new movie Home Again in the UK. "I don't know, sometimes it's good to know yourself [first]." However, as she added, "I would never change anything."
According to Us Weekly, the Cruel Intentions costars got married in 1999 after dating for two years, before Witherspoon filed for divorce from Phillippe, 43, in 2006. The exes share two children, daughter Ava, 18, and son Deacon, 13. The Walk the Line Oscar-winner is now married to Hollywood talent agent Jim Toth. The two recently celebrated their six-year anniversary and have one child together, 5-year-old Tennessee.
During her candid interview, the Sweet Home Alabama actress likened her own path with that of her character in her new film, who has just separated from her husband, played by Michael Sheen, and moves back home to Los Angeles with her children in tow to start anew. "It's about that next chapter in your life," Witherspoon explained. "What do you do when you get to 40 and you've made a decision when you were 25 to get married and have kids?"
And while she is at peace with everything despite her high-profile divorce, the Legally Blonde star admitted that she hopes her teenage daughter won't follow directly in her footsteps. "I've said to my daughter, I think you know, at 25, you start to know yourself a little bit better," she said. Sound advice.
Home Again is currently in theaters, but before you check out her latest movie, read up on the real reason Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe got divorced.
