Beyonce Drops Surprise 'Mi Gente' Remix To Support Hurricane, Earthquake Relief Efforts
Bey is continuing to give back in a big way.
The pop music icon surprised fans late Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, with the release of J Balvin and Willy William's "Mi Gente" remix, on which she sings in Spanish.
As Beyoncé announced via Instagram, the song will benefit hurricane and earthquake relief organizations. "I am donating my proceeds from this song to hurricane relief charities for Puerto Rico, Mexico and the other affected Caribbean islands," she wrote. "To help go to Beyonce.com/reliefefforts."
As Nicki Swift previously reported, Beyoncé has devoted much of her time this month to help those affected by recent natural disasters, beginning with the star-studded Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Harvey Relief. The live telethon event raised $44 million for victims of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, including those in the "Formation" singer's home state of Texas. It featured the likes of Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney, Reese Witherspoon, Blake Shelton, Jamie Foxx, and countless others.
Queen Bey is not the only celebrity using her platform to help those in need. The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon donated $1 million to J.J. Watt's Hurricane Harvey relief fund in early September. Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez announced last week she was donating $1 million to hurricane relief in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean following the devastating Hurricane Maria.
Beyoncé and her rapper husband Jay-Z's entertainment platform Tidal will be hosting its 3rd annual Tidal X: Brooklyn concert at the Barclay's Center on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017. As previously announced, all ticket proceeds from the benefit concert will be donated to several natural disaster relief organizations.
The music event will be hosted by radio DJ Angie Martinez and will feature performances by some of the biggest names in music, such as Jay-Z, Jennifer Lopez, and Fifth Harmony. Special guests will include actress and activist Rosie Perez and Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda, who recently made an emotional plea urging readers to make donations to the Hispanic Federation, which is providing aid to Puerto Rico and Mexico. Fans can visit TIDAL.com/BROOKLYN to purchase tickets, livestream the show, and participate in various fundraising opportunities.
