The Truth About Madonna's Friendship With Debi Mazar

"Younger" star Debi Mazar has been working in the entertainment industry for decades, and in that time, she's worked alongside some of the biggest names in Hollywood, like Robert DeNiro, Joe Pesci, Nicole Kidman, and Mike Myers. But a not-so-secret aspect of her personal life is that she's besties with arguably the biggest pop star of the era, the Queen of Pop, Madonna.

Mazar is always posting throwback photos of herself and her BFF on her official Instagram. We love this one from 1988 taken on her birthday ... or this one from the early '90s when Madge came to watch Mazar walk the catwalk in Paris. The duo is definitely adorbs. And if you've been following Madonna's career over the past three decades, you might have noticed Mazar in several of the "Vogue" singer's iconic music videos. She was part of the Material Girl's girl gang in 1986's "Papa Don't Preach" and 2000's "Music," dancing up a storm in '86's "True Blue," and enjoying a night at the disco in 1992's "Deeper and Deeper."

Mazar recently told Hoda and Jenna on the "Today" show that she asked her BFF to write her character into her biopic (and we've since learned that "Uncut Jaaaahhhhhhms" star Julia Fox was cast as Mazar, which Mazar called "surreal" on IG), so this has us wondering — how long have these two beauties been bosom buddies?

Madonna and Debi were friends before either was famous

Debi Mazar told HuffPost Live in 2015 that Madonna became her bestie before either of them found fame. "We are old best friends in the sense that we've been very close for a very, very long time — like 30 years, before she even cut a record," she told the outlet. "I met her when she came to New York and we became dear friends, and then she was like, 'I'm gonna do a video,' and I was like, 'I do makeup. I'll do your makeup. Cool!' And it was very much like that, and then she became a huge star."

Speaking with The Cut in 2013, the "Younger" star expounded on their origin story, revealing that as the "Like a Virgin" singer's makeup artist, she tried plucking Madonna's eyebrows into pencil-thin sticks. "I was always trying to pluck her eyebrows — they're caterpillars. At this moment in time I probably wouldn't pluck them, but it was the eighties, so, you know." She added, "Anyway, we remained girlfriends and we still are."

They definitely still are, as Mazar was on hand for the "Hung Up" crooner's last birthday bash in August 2021, which involved all of Madge's children and her then-boyfriend Ahlamalik Williams. Madonna even tagged Mazar in two IG posts about the extravaganza, with Mazar commenting, "Oh what a wonderful evening !!!!" Of course, they are prone to taking vacay's together. Check out these throwback pics of their 1987 holiday to the French Riviera.

Debi Mazar still gushes about Madonna's talents

"So I Married An Axe Murderer" actor Debi Mazar still gushes about BFF Madonna often, praising her as one of the hardest working people in Hollywood and the queen of reinvention. Speaking with People in early May, she lauded the "Nothing Really Matters" singer, saying, "I don't have that much energy to do what she does. She inspires me. She's relentlessly creative and smart. I'm always happy for her."

She also gushed over Madge's devotion to being a good mom. "She's a dear friend. She's a very good mom and a good person," she told the outlet. But don't take it from Mazar, take it from the Material Girl's children. Mazar did just that when she interviewed Madonna's eldest daughter, Lourdes Leon, for Interview in 2021, where Leon gushed about her famous mum's positive influence on her work ethic. "It's not about the money or your face or how hot you look. It's about what you're bringing into the world and what you're going to leave behind," Leon quoted her mum's words to Mazar. "That always shakes me awake when I get too caught up in everything."

After all these years, Mazar also knows the secrets of the "La Isla Bonita" singer's heart. She told Andy Cohen on "Watch What Happens Live" in 2013 (via Us Weekly) that ex-husband Sean Penn was the love of Madonna's life — although Madonna herself admitted as much in her rockumentary "Truth or Dare" back in 1991.
