Trixie Motel Season 1 Release Date, Cast, And More Information
If you're a fan of "RuPaul's Drag Race," then chances are you know who the iconic Trixie Mattel is. The West Hollywood-based queen first got her start in the franchise during Season 7 — where she landed in sixth place, per WISN. In 2018, she returned to "Drag Race" during "All-Stars 3" and finally took home the crown as its winner, via Gay Times.
Alongside her continued appearances within the beloved series, Trixie has steadily built her own media empire. In 2017, she began her country music career, including three studio albums and an array of hit singles. Mattel and her famous makeup skills have also been immortalized in her very own makeup line, Trixie Cosmetics.
Recently, the "You Belong To Me" artist has got involved with the real estate market. In 2021, she became the co-owner of the Milwaukee-based bar This Is It — one of the oldest LGBTQ+ bars in the U.S., per Milwaukee. Trixie has now added another business to her growing portfolio with the Trixie Motel. Luckily, fans of the hilarious queen are set to get a sneak peek into its creation with the new, aptly-titled Discovery+ series
When is the release date for Trixie Motel Season 1?
Trixie Mattel first revealed news surrounding "Trixie Motel" on Twitter in May 2021. "Breaking: Palm Springs is getting a face in my new @discovery+ renovation series, Trixie Motel," she said. "Coming next year, the show will follow me and my famous friends as we create the glossiest Drag motel of your wildest fever-dreams!"
Shortly after Trixie's initial statement, the president of HGTV, Jane Latman, gave further information on the project. "Trixie is an entertaining performer, but most people don't associate her with renovation," she said. "We know Trixie will create a fantasy-filled motel makeover with grit, wigs and fun."
After nearly a year since the initial announcement, Discovery+ finally revealed that the series would be premiering on June 1, 2022 — just in time for Pride Month. In a press release from February, the network explained that the series would be eight episodes long. Discovery also highlighted that Trixie invested "her life savings" for the project. With all this being revealed, fans have wondered who will be joining the talented queen on this renovation journey?
Who's joining Trixie Mattel in the new series?
Of course, it wouldn't be a Trixie Mattel series without a sleuth of special guests and "fabulous helpers." Joining the Drag Race alum is her boyfriend and co-owner, David Silver. In a March interview with Bustle, Trixie revealed that co-owning a property was always a thought. "Me and my boyfriend would always joke about how cool it would be to own a property called the Trixie Motel and then we did that," she revealed. " So be careful. People in the universe are listening and things happen."
In regards to the interior design elements of the series, Dani Dazey has been tapped to lend her creative talents to the seven motel rooms. Taking to Instagram, Dazey gushed about her time on the immersive project. "Every day on set it was not lost on me that out of hundreds of designers they could have chosen, they chose me," she wrote. "This has been the largest project I have designed by far." Before landing on the series, Dazey started out in the fashion world with her popular ethically sourced t-shirts, per her website.
Trixie will also be joined by celebrities like Orville Peck, Dan Levy, Paris Hilton, and Tiffany Pollard throughout the first season run, per Out Traveler.
Trixie Mattel says fans are not 'prepared' for Trixie Motel
Even though the premiere of "Trixie Motel" is a few months away, Trixie Mattel has promised that it'll be worth the wait. "Absolutely none of you are in any way prepared for what is about to happen to you on your televisions," the country queen told Bustle. "It is unbelievable. It's like Avengers Endgame, Disneyland, Universal on steroids, on molly. The only thing I could compare it to would be it's a motel in drag."
Trixie has also given fans a sneak peek into the renovation process via social media. In numerous posts, the "RuPaul's Drag Race" alum has showcased the property and all its pink realness that includes a pool, floral-based areas, and a wall featuring the queen's signature eye look.
Alongside her sure-to-be hilarious and iconic series, Trixie and her longtime friend and co-host, Katya Zamolodchikova, toured the U.S. for the "Trixie and Katya Live!" show. The theatrical event featured an array of performances with "costumes, props, wigs, and music."
