Every Pro Athlete Who Has Dated A Kardashian
We're as sure as the sun setting in the west that the Kardashian-Jenner clan love an athlete. Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, and Kendall Jenner have all had a sporty dalliance (or two or three), and they're making no apologies for it. And good for them!
After Jimmy Kimmel suggested in 2019 that the famous family should maybe stay away from basketball players (it can't really be argued that they've maybe not had the best luck dating in that arena), Khloé hit back. Kimmel inquired about the "character" Khloé had a baby with (Tristan Thompson, of course), and she responded during the joint "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" interview with sisters Kim and Kourtney Kardashian, "I don't know. I like what I like. What can I say?" She did "agree" that perhaps NBA stars weren't the best for her, though, admitting, "I should probably start to date like accountants or something like that."
The ladies have also given us some serious girl power vibes while speaking out about the apparent curse surrounding them, by which many of the athletes they've dated haven't gone on to have the most successful careers. "What I don't like about this narrative is that the blame is on us. I think the men need to take that responsibility," Kendall hit back during the "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" finale in June 2021 (via TMZ).
So, with that said, let's take a look at the athlete men who have dipped their toes in the KarJenner dating pool.
Kim Kardashian loved Reggie Bush
An early one in the days of the Kardashians, but a biggie. When we first started keeping up with this family, it was 2007 and a new-to-the-reality-TV-game Kim Kardashian started dating then-New Orleans Saints player Reggie Bush. The duo dated for two years, with fans getting a peek inside their life together in several early episodes of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians." Things seemed pretty serious, and Kim even hinted at one day marrying the athlete on the show, with People also reporting that marriage wasn't off the table. However, when they split in July 2009, a source claimed it had "been a long time coming." The insider added, "They still love each other and are part of their lives, but Reggie spends six months out of the year in New Orleans, so it's tough."
But wait! Not so fast! That breakup only lasted around two months, with People confirming the two were back together in September 2009. "Kim and Reggie spent a few months apart getting their priorities together and figuring out who they were as individuals so they can make it work together," a source shared. But March 2010 brought yet another split, this time for good.
Bush went on to open up about his ex in 2018, praising her for "doing a great job creating a brand for herself, her and her family." He told Us Weekly they don't speak anymore, but called Kim "very smart."
Rashad McCants' romance 'regret'
The first of Khloé Kardashian's famous athlete boyfriends came in the form of Rashad McCants, who at the time played basketball for the Minnesota Timberwolves. As early "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" adopters may remember, the two dated for a short while back in 2008, and he even became a storyline on the show. During the Season 3 episode "Double Trouble," Khloé opened up about her romance and even called the athlete her "boyfriend" as she shared how they "just clicked" with one another.
However, that happiness sadly didn't last long. In the same episode, Khloé grew suspicious of her new man, so she and Kim Kardashian appeared to hack into McCants' cell phone voicemail. They listened to his messages and heard a couple from an unknown woman, which appeared to suggest he had been unfaithful.
McCants didn't agree with that timeline of events, though. In 2009, he accused Khloé of "[making] the whole thing up," per Page Six, and claimed the "KUWTK" scene was supposedly "staged," as the outlet put it. According to his version of events, he and Khloé broke up before that episode was even filmed. But he wasn't done there. Eight years later, McCants blamed Khloé for his less-than-stellar career. An interview with The Charlotte Observer revealed his "biggest regret was [their] highly-publicized relationship," in the outlet's own words, as he suggested being entangled with the Kardashian clan made people "doubt" his sporting ability.
Derrick Ward got cozy with Khloe Kardashian
Another athlete for Khloé Kardashian! The star didn't waste much time after her drama with Rashad McCants, quickly moving on to date football player Derrick Ward during his short stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Though this relationship didn't exactly last too long, Khloé was clearly confident enough in her romance with the athlete to have him around her famous family. Us Weekly reported that the twosome had "cozied up in Mexico" during a trip for Khloé's sister, Kourtney Kardashian's, 30th birthday celebrations all the way back in April 2009.
As for how these two first met? Well, there's a sports star and a sister there, too! In a since-deleted tweet shared in 2015, Ward revealed that he met the reality star after being introduced to her by Kim Kardashian's man (at the time), Reggie Bush.
However, Khloé and Ward reportedly called it quits by August 2009, according to Who Dated Who, and the E! star quickly moved on to her next sporty love...
The ill-fated Lamar Odom days
Another big one (literally, standing at 6'10") when it comes to the men of the Kardashians is none other than the infamous Lamar Odom. Lamar is arguably one of the first names that springs to mind when it comes to Khloé Kardashian's dating history, with the two embarking on a whirlwind romance in 2009. The two started dating that August and married just one month later in a lavish ceremony that was filmed for the "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" cameras (of course!). They later landed their spin-off "Khloé & Lamar," which captured all the ups and downs of their romance.
However, reports of trouble in paradise swirled for much of their marriage, and Khloé filed for divorce in December 2013, citing "irreconcilable differences," per TMZ. Speaking on "The Howard Stern Show" in 2016, Khloé claimed she found proof Lamar was unfaithful. "It is humiliating on any level, but I found out he was cheating on me the majority of our marriage," she said. The divorce took several years to actually be finalized, as Khloé put it on the back burner after Lamar's near-fatal drug overdose in October 2015. Khloé was by his bedside for weeks and helped him get healthy again, with the divorce becoming final in December 2016.
Lamar has since made some very public pleas to get Khloé back despite their rocky past, including pining for her to ET ahead of an appearance on "Celebrity Big Brother" in early 2022.
An Instagram match made in heaven?
One of the most followed celebrities on Instagram dating the most followed man on Instagram. It's a match made in heaven, right? Well, clearly not quite. For this Kardashian sports romance, we're throwing it back to when Kim Kardashian was romantically linked to Portuguese soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. In April 2010, a source claimed to The Sun (via the Daily Mail) that the two were seen kissing up a storm during a steamy time in Madrid, Spain. "She and Ronaldo were kissing and very affectionate. They looked to be getting on really well, laughing the whole time," the insider revealed.
But that wasn't the only time the two were spotted. Perez Hilton also reported that the duo were seen spending time together that August, though a rep for Kim claimed at the time that there was nothing more than friendship going on here. Ryan Seacrest went on to grill the reality star on her sporty romance around that time on "On Air with Ryan Seacrest," too, but Kim played coy when asked if they "ever dated," responding, "Next question." One thing Kim did give away? That they were "friends."
Proving just how small the dating pool in Hollywood can be through, Ronaldo went on to date model Irina Shayk for five years from 2010 until 2015. The coincidence there? Shayk was later linked to Kim's estranged husband, Kanye West, in the wake of her 2021 divorce filing. Small world!
Kim Kardashian and her Dallas Cowboys dreamboat
Another sports star Kim Kardashian got cozy with, June 2010 to September 2010 saw the reality star dating former Dallas Cowboys football player Miles Austin. There was some speculation at the time the romance was to get revenge on her former serious boyfriend, Reggie Bush, who played for a rival team, though a source denied that. "Kim has really fallen for Miles and the feeling is mutual," the insider said (via the Daily Mail), claiming it was "not just a revenge relationship." In fact, Kim was reported to be so smitten with the athlete that she was supposedly "carving out more time in her schedule to be with Miles, and she is telling those close to her that he's 'The One.'" Woah!
Of course, though, as we all know, that wasn't exactly the case. Things didn't last too long, and they split after a few months together. A source claimed to People (via Parade) at the time of their breakup that "distance" was to blame because both had such busy schedules. "With his season and Kim's filming ['Keeping Up with the Kardashians'] it just slowly split them apart," they added.
He didn't exit the Kardashian world without making a "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" cameo though, with the Season 5 episode "Dash No More," which aired in October 2010, seeing Kim being set up with the football star by friends.
The Kris Humphries drama
Another biggie in the world of Kardashian men! Now we're moving on to Kim Kardashian's second marriage, her infamous union with basketball player Kris Humphries. These two were confirmed to be dating in December 2010, and it wasn't too long before he popped the question. In May 2011, the "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" cameras rolled as Humphries proposed by adorning their bedroom with roses with petals grouped together to spell out, "Will you marry me?" Kim opened up about the special moment to People, admitting, "I didn't expect this at all. I was in such shock. I never thought it would happen at home, and I never thought now."
The two went on to get married in a seriously lavish ceremony (all captured by the cameras, too, of course!), but it's no secret this was no successful union. Kim and Kris were infamously hitched for just 72 days when Kim filed for divorce in October 2011, citing "irreconcilable differences," per People.
Both have spoken out about the disastrous union on a few occasions since, with Kim revisiting the drama during the "KUWTK" reunion, which aired in June 2021. Kim admitted she felt "pressured" to go through with the wedding and then handled breaking up with the athlete "totally the wrong way," noting (via People), "I fully broke up with him in the worst way, and I couldn't, I just didn't know how to deal, I learned so much from it."
Kendall Jenner's young love
Moving on to our first athlete romance for the Kardashian clan's half-sister, Kendall Jenner, we're going back to 2012, when the now-model was linked to University of Nevada wide receiver Julian Brooks. The two shared various cozy looking snaps on social media at the time, but really sparked romance rumors in July 2013 after paparazzi spotted the duo frolicking on the beach together in candid snaps shared by the Daily Mail, in which they looked very happy as they spent the Fourth of July together.
Though it doesn't appear the reality star and the Nevada Wolf Pack football player ever officially spoke too candidly about their romance in public, they did leave some hints on social media, including Brooks calling Kendall "mah chick" in an Instagram comment that April, per Starcasm. It was reported they didn't exactly end on the best terms, though. In September 2013, it was alleged that the two had gone their separate ways after around two years of dating due to Brooks' alleged cheating. "He would disappear for days and not answer Kendall's text messages," a source claimed to Star (via Hollywood Life).
Kendall appeared to open up about spending time with Brooks and the impact he had on her young life during a 2015 interview with Love, admitting that although she considered herself a good kid, she would sometimes "just leave school and go hang out with [her] boyfriend and go get food and do absolutely nothing."
This KarJenner sister's first basketballer date
From athlete to athlete. After splitting with her school boyfriend, Julian Brooks, Kendall Jenner hot tailed it to another athlete — but went for a different sport this time around. The star's penchant for dating basketball players appeared to begin in July 2014, when E! News reported she and Dallas Mavericks forward Chandler Parsons had gone on a date and had "immediate chemistry" together.
It sounds like Parsons was very into the model pretty quickly, too, as a source claimed to Daily Mail the following month that he actually turned down a role on a dating show in order to pursue things with the "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star. Things appeared to get fairly serious, as an insider claimed that Kendall's mom, Kris Jenner, had met him and was supposedly "blown away by not only his good looks, but his promising B-ball future." Not too much more is known about what happened after that, though it looks like things fizzled not too long after.
In January 2017, though, the two were linked again after they reportedly "ran into each other" at a car dealership, according to Harper's Bazaar. Even more telling? That very night, Kendall supported Parsons' team during a basketball game and was supposedly making her hands into heart shapes from the sidelines. They then reportedly headed to dinner that night. If the two really were back on, though, that didn't last long, as they don't appear to have been spotted together again since.
What went on with Lewis Hamilton?
What really went down between British Formula 1 racer Lewis Hamilton and Kendall Jenner? Well, the rumor mill certainly swirled that it was something romantic. The two appeared to be first linked around May 2015 and were then spotted together that September, when they were photographed and filmed on a stroll in the Big Apple together with Hailey Bieber. A source dished on the alleged romance to Britain's Heat World, claiming Kendall's mom, Kris Jenner, was very supportive of the two dating. "[Kris] thinks Lewis is the kind of man Kendall needs. She's practically jumping up and down," the insider said.
It seemed like Kris was such a fan of Hamilton's that he was even spotted hanging out with her and two of Kendall's sisters, Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner, during a trip to Cannes in June 2015. Kim posted a snap to Twitter of them all hanging out alongside the likes of Tyga, Ryan Seacrest, Corey Gamble, and Steve Harvey, though Kendall was nowhere to be seen. "Cannes Clique," Kim captioned it.
When Hamilton was asked about Kendall, though, he played coy and wouldn't reveal if there was anything romantic going on. "Me and Kendall have been friends for a while, so we're just friends," he told E! News that September. "She's doing incredible, she's very focused, very level-headed, and she's just, for such a young woman, she's very grown up," he added.
Another Kardashian-Jenner sister, another baller boy
In March 2016, People reported that Kendall Jenner had been "secretly dating" Jordan Clarkson of the Los Angeles Lakers. According to a source, they were "super into each other" and were spotted out and about together, including attending Coachella together (does it get any more romantic than that?).
The two were seen on several dates beyond the music festival, with People serving us a relationship update that June. Despite reportedly seeing each other for around three months at that time, an insider claimed their relationship wasn't serious yet and alleged Clarkson had seen other girls while keeping things casual with the model. It's not clear exactly how long these two dated, though Who Dated Who reported that could have been on and off up until January 2017, when things appeared to fizzle.
Fast forward to June 2017, though, and Kendall actually attended Clarkson's birthday party at a club in Hollywood, which she was snapped exiting by the Daily Mail. They were then allegedly spotted together once again in 2019, when Sports Gossip alleged they ran into one another at a birthday party for Travis Scott, sister Kylie Jenner's boyfriend, who would go on to become the father of her two children.
Khloe Kardashian romances James Harden
Another athlete for Khloé Kardashian! This time, it was her public romance with James Harden, who then played for the Houston Rockets. The two were first linked after Khloé shared a snap of herself on Twitter in August 2015 with Harden in the background. However, ET reported things had cooled off a little that October, as Khloé helped her estranged then-husband, Lamar Odom, recover following his health scare, though she and Harden were spotted out and about together the following month and seemed very much back on. Khloé herself spoke out about the romance on "The Howard Stern Show" in January 2016, revealing they met after Kim Kardashian threw her husband at the time, Kanye West, a birthday party at the Staples Center, where Harden was playing basketball.
However, things were all over by February 2016, with a source claiming to ET that Khloé had called time on the things. She then hinted at infidelity while discussing the split on "Kocktails with Khloé" that same month, saying (via ET), "I just don't want to put up with people that you want to be monogamous but then they're not monogamous."
Harden later opened up about the split, telling Sports Illustrated in 2017 that he "didn't like all the attention." The NBA star admitted, "I feel like it was for no reason. I wasn't getting anything out of it except my name out there and my face out there, and I don't need that. It wasn't uncomfortable, but it wasn't me."
Kendall Jenner got very cozy with Blake Griffin
Proving Kendall Jenner is very much a fan of a basketballer, August 2017 brought rumors the model went on a date with then-Los Angeles Clippers player Blake Griffin with Hailey Baldwin and none other than her own ex, Chandler Parsons. People claimed that Kendall was "keeping her options open," with an insider alleging she was also dating A$AP Rocky while "hanging out" with Griffin. A month later and People offered us another update, as another source claimed things were "still very casual," but that Kendall was "seeing Blake romantically" and they were having fun together, though her focus was on her modeling.
That seemed to have changed by the time Halloween rolled around, though, and the B-word was even dropped when Kendall and her sister, Kylie Jenner, grabbed their "boyfriends" (that's an onlooker who spoke to People's word, not ours) for a scary night with Hailey Bieber and Jordyn Woods. "Both couples had their arms around each other, and the girls were really sweet with their guys," the onlooker shared.
However, by February 2018, it was all over. That month, Brynn Cameron, the mother of Blake's two kids, hit him with a lawsuit that suggested he traded her for Kendall and "cared more about the glamour of dating a Hollywood celebrity than the day-to-day responsibilities of being a father and family man" (via The Blast). That same month, a source claimed to People that things had "cooled off" for the model and athlete.
The roller-coaster romance with Tristan Thompson
Where to even start with this one? Pretty much everyone knows about the ups and downs Khloé Kardashian had in her relationship with basketball player Tristan Thompson, with the two barely leaving the headlines since they were first romantically linked around September 2016 — only usually for all the wrong reasons. Things appeared to go well for these two at the start, though, and in December 2017, the reality star and Cleveland Cavalier announced via Instagram they were expecting their first child together. But drama struck mere days before Khloé gave birth.
Thompson was accused of cheating on Khloé when the Daily Mail shared snaps of him out and about with a "mystery woman" in April 2018. The Shade Room added fuel to the fire with a video of the athlete seemingly entering a hotel with a woman, while TMZ released a video from October 2017 that showed Thompson acting inappropriately in a club with three women.
Khloé and Thompson worked things out, though — until that infamous scandal with Kylie Jenner's ex best friend, Jordyn Woods. He was accused of kissing her at a party, and Khloé and Thompson's romance imploded once again. But it didn't end there. The two co-parented daughter True together and things eventually turned romantic again, but they seemingly split for good around June 2021, per ET. That following December, though? Thompson welcomed a child with another woman, with the child conceived while he and Khloé were together.
Dates with Ben Simmons
Kendall Jenner's love for basketballer's isn't done yet! In July 2018, the model was spotted getting very cozy with Ben Simmons, who then played for the Philadelphia 76ers. In a video shared by The Shade Room, the "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star was on hand as she celebrated Simmons' birthday with him, snuggling up as he blew out the candles on his cake.
The official sighting came the month after E! News reported the two went on a shopping date, and just a few days after an insider alleged to Us Weekly that they were "pretty inseparable" and "going really strong." The source also claimed they were only dating each other but hadn't defined things yet. That may have changed the following month, though, when Cosmopolitan shared snaps of Kendall and her apparent new beau vacationing in Mexico with her sister, Khloé Kardashian, and her basketballer then-boyfriend, Tristan Thompson.
However, they'd seemingly split by September 2018, when TMZ shared snaps of Kendall locking lips with Anwar Hadid. Yep, that one, the brother to Gigi Hadid and Bella Hadid and ex-boyfriend to Dua Lipa. But that didn't last. By November, TMZ claimed she and Simmons were back together, and Kendall attended one of his games. They even attended Drake's New Year's Eve party together, but the breakup rumors swirled again in May 2019, when People claimed they were taking "a break." Things seemed to unravel from there, and Kimmons was no more.
Kendall Jenner's 'hookup' turned into a romance
And one last basketball romance for Kendall Jenner (at least for now). Following her split with Ben Simmons, June 2020 brought rumors that Kendall was hooking up with Phoenix Suns player Devin Booker. A source confirmed to Us Weekly that they were "hooking up," but claimed it wasn't "serious." By that August, though, another insider told Us Weekly that Booker had met Kendall's famous family. Also proving things were getting more serious? He was on hand for Kendall's birthday party in November 2020, where they cuddled up in the photo booth, which is how she made things Instagram official. The model buried a snap with her man in a batch of photos that showed them all in costume and having fun in a photo booth.
It was all fairly public from then on, with Kendall posting a steamy pic to her Instagram Stories with her beau in celebration of Valentine's Day 2021 alongside a white heart. June 2021 brought their first anniversary, and Booker celebrated with a series of snaps on his Instagram Stories marking 365 days with his love. Adorable! They still seemed as loved up as ever during a vacation to Italy that August, and Kendall shared sweet holiday photos on Instagram later that year as they snuggled up throughout Christmas and the New Year.
Booker spoke about his girlfriend in a March 2022 interview, telling WSJ Magazine that he hasn't found it "hard" to date Kendall despite the intense limelight that comes with being associated with the KarJenners.
