Did Whitney Houston Leave Bobbi Kristina Anything In Her Will?

Often hailed as "the greatest voice of her generation," Whitney Houston was a vocal powerhouse. The "I Have Nothing" singer burst onto the music scene in the 1980's and was considered the pinnacle of vocal prowess until her untimely death in 2012.

At the time, Houston was 48 years old and on the cusp of a major musical comeback. Her career had been riddled with allegations of substance abuse, and during Grammy Awards weekend in 2012, Houston was found unconscious in a Beverly Hills hotel, per USA Today. According to the outlet, Houston's death was deemed an accidental drowning, aggravated by heart disease and longtime cocaine abuse.

Following Houston's death, her family was left with the difficult task of disseminating her estate. Houston had only one child, Bobbi Kristina, whom she shared with fellow musician Bobby Brown. At the time of her death, Houston's earnings totaled $20 million, according to People. While many have pondered over who inherited Houston's fortune, there was only one name listed in the singer's will.

Whitney Houston left her fortune to her daughter

The news of Whitney Houston's death devastated the music industry. The singer had a storied career that spanned across generations. As People reports, Houston was first noticed by Arista music executive Clive Davis, who immediately signed her to a record deal. Houston would go on to cultivate an extremely successful music career, recording hits like "I Will Always Love You" and "All The Man I Need," and earning millions as a global music sensation.

The heir to Houston's sizable fortune was then in question when the star was found unresponsive in the bathtub of her Beverly Hilton hotel room on the night before the 2012 Grammys. Following a 42-page report by the Los Angeles County coroner's office, Houston's family expressed that they were shocked to learn that the pop icon has started using drugs again. "We are saddened to learn of the toxicology results, although we are glad to now have closure," said Pat Houston, Whitney's sister-in-law, told the Associated Press (via ABC News).

Her family, then tasked with burying the music legend, had to also determine who would inherit Houston's $20 million estate. According to USA Today, Houston left the entirety of her estate to her only child, Bobbi Kristina Brown. The estate was placed in trust to be released to Bobbi Kristina in increments until she turned 30. Unfortunately for the family, Bobbi Kristina tragically died before she reached that milestone.

Bobbi Kristina also had an untimely death

Three years after Whitney Houston's death, her daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown was discovered unresponsive in the Georgia home she inherited from her mother. Brown, 22 at the time, never regained consciousness and died six months later, the BBC reports. According to the outlet, the Fulton County Medical Examiner's office determined that Brown's cause of death as "immersion associated with drug intoxication."

Brown's passing before her 30th birthday meant that the terms of Houston's will could not come to fruition. According to USA Today, Cissy Houston, and Whitney's two brothers were then left in control of her estate. The outlet reported that Cissy then renounced the appointment of executor, and a Georgia probate judge ultimately named Whitney's sister-in-law, Pat Houston as sole administrator of the estate.

Bobbi Kristina's father Bobby Brown has expressed his grief following his daughter's death, saying in an Instagram post, "There's no way to explain how I feel I miss you so much little girl you stay in my heart on my mind every day daddy loves you."
