Inside Kelly Reilly's Marriage
It appears that "Yellowstone" fans can't get enough of Kelly Reilly, the British actor who plays badass Beth Dutton in the super popular western drama. Reilly's star status in the U.S. has been on the rise since the hit series was released on The Paramount Network in 2018.
While viewers may just be getting to know Reilly in recent years because of "Yellowstone," she's actually been acting since 1995, mainly in her native England. The "Britannia" star has spent a lot of her career on stage doing London theater, and also has over 50 acting credits on her IMDb that span over almost three decades. Outside of "Yellowstone," Reilly is probably best known for her roles in the films "Pride and Prejudice" and "Sherlock Holmes," as well as the HBO series "True Detective."
With Reilly's newfound popularity, of course that means that fans want to know more about the actor herself. Yet Reilly seems to have always been very private about her personal life. She even once claimed (via Yahoo!) that when it comes to fame, "I just don't invite it into my world because I don't really want it or need it." Her need for privacy appears to include keeping her marriage to financier Kyle Baugher out of the spotlight too. Although the two seemingly keep things very low-key when it comes to their relationship, that doesn't mean they don't have an interesting romance worth knowing about. Let's take a closer look inside Reilly and Baugher's marriage.
Kelly Reilly married non-celebrity Kyle Baugher in 2012
TV fans may associate Kelly Reilly with her "Yellowstone" love interest, Rip Wheeler, but offscreen, the actor is taken by real life husband, Kyle Baugher. The couple have been married since 2012, having tied the knot in what appeared to be a beautiful outdoor ceremony in Somerset, England. Although it's unclear when they first got together, it was presumably Baugher whom Reilly referred to as her "boyfriend" way back in a 2011 interview with The Guardian.
Reilly has mostly kept her romance with Baugher, as well as their wedding, pretty private over the years, but did tell the Evening Standard in 2015, "Now, I'm married and happy and content." Since then, Reilly has shared a couple photos of Baugher on her Instagram, where it's obvious how in love they still are. For example, in a 2018 photo of a shirtless Baugher with their dog, Reilly refers to them in the caption as "my loves."
In another post from 2022, Reilly was even more uncharacteristically open with their romance. She not only shared a photo of her snuggling up to Baugher, but also wrote in the caption, "Another year of love .. so grateful for you." Reilly's celebrity friends were apparently happy to see the couple in their feeds, with fellow "Yellowstone" actor Hassie Harrison writing in the comments, "What a gorgeous pair!" Actor Piper Perabo also wrote, "Sending you two sticks of dynamite big love," and "Yellowjackets" star Juliette Lewis commented, "Beautiful inspiring."
The Yellowstone star is very private
"Promises" star Kelly Reilly apparently likes to keep the press's focus on her work as an actor over her romantic relationships. She made that pretty clear to The Guardian in 2011 when she referenced spending time with then-boyfriend, now-husband Kyle Baugher in an interview. After mentioning she had a boyfriend, she made a point to add, "I'm not saying any more about him except that he's not an actor, not in the business."
It seems Reilly is uncomfortable with anything related to her love life making headlines, including when she was linked to her "Sherlock Holmes" director Guy Ritchie amid his divorce from Madonna in 2008. She recalled, "I didn't cope with it very well at all. I sued! And I won because it was completely made up." She explained why, saying, "There were press at my mum and dad's house," adding, "It hurts people you love. I was in a relationship."
Reilly doesn't appear into the fame aspect of her job in general, telling the Independent that it "doesn't sit comfortably with me" and that she much rather be the type of actor who's "really well-respected" but not necessarily "adored by the general public." She reiterated that to Esquire, revealing that she lives in places where she can be "cut off a lot from the world." Baugher seems to be on the same page considering he has no public social media accounts, and hasn't been photographed with his wife at any Hollywood events.
The actor and her hubby live in a few places
While many TV stars call Hollywood home, Kelly Reilly and her husband, Kyle Baugher, chose to live in New York City. Parade reports that Reilly had originally moved from London to Los Angeles "to hustle for work," but eventually landed in New York, which she's called "my favorite city." While Reilly did admit she "suffered terrible homesickness at first," she dished, "England is always home, but I have made my life here."
It appears Reilly may have also ended up living in New York because it's where Baugher is based. When they first got together in 2011, she revealed to The Guardian, "I live between my house on the borders of Sussex and Surrey and New York, where my boyfriend lives." She hinted at settling down with him then, adding, "I spend a lot of my time on airplanes. I'm probably going to do the move soon. I'd like my life to be in one place."
However, as of January 2022, Reilly and Baugher were still splitting their time amongst the two, with Reilly telling Esquire, "I live between New York and the middle of the countryside in England." Of course, the couple spends time in Montana as well, since it's where Reilly shoots "Yellowstone." The actor has shared multiple Instagram photos of her and Baugher out west. She also told Parade, "Being in the world of Montana whilst also doing a job ... it was a perfect fit for me."
She was engaged to another actor
"True Detective" star Kelly Reilly seems to be very happy to be married to a man who doesn't share her occupation. However, that wasn't always the case since she was once engaged to "24" star Jonah Lotan. Parade reports that two were betrothed from 2007 until 2009, and according to the Independent, they had planned to get married some time in 2008. However, in 2009 when asked if she and Lotan were together, Reilly replied, "I'd... rather not talk about it. Only because I'm trying to protect myself and my life." She clarified, "It's a bit complicated."
Reilly alluded to The Scotsman that it was their busy work schedules as actors that caused their breakup. She dished, "This is why I understand a lot of the English actors who go off to LA to go do television series ... and they have family with them, and it's the closest thing to a regular job." She added, "I think there must come a time when that's really appealing." Reilly apparently did try to make it work with Lotan though, even joining him on location in Namibia while he filmed the HBO series, "Generation Kill." Yet it seems that the distance eventually became too much.
Obviously, it worked out for the best for Reilly, considering that she later found Kyle Baugher. It appears that Baugher not being an actor himself probably makes their relationship easier when it comes to their schedules and him joining her on location.
Kelly Reilly is more open about her Yellowstone relationships
Kelly Reilly may like to keep her marriage to Kyle Baugher out of the public eye, but that doesn't mean she's not a romantic. It just seems she'd rather talk about love and weddings in terms of her "Yellowstone" character, Beth Dutton, especially after (spoiler alert!) Beth tied the knot with her love interest, Rip Wheeler, at the end of Season 4. Reilly told ET, "I love their wedding, and it's just so typical Beth." She continued, "She's just not interested in having a wedding party... All she cares about is being his wife and she knows that."
Reilly also doesn't mind gushing about her "Yellowstone" co-stars either, especially Cole Hauser, who plays Wheeler. Not only does she often post photos of them from the show on her Instagram, but she told Looper, "We're so lucky to have found each other ... we support each other and have fun." Yet she made it clear that their relationship is strictly platonic and that they're both taken off-camera. She explained, "I've been married for ten years, and he's been married forever, and his wife's incredible and wonderful. We're all friends."
Reilly didn't hold back when describing her other co-star, Kevin Costner, either. She dished to Parade, "He's honestly, the kindest, most humble, relaxed, sweetheart." It appears that Reilly doesn't mind opening up to fans when it comes to certain topics but rather respects Baugher's privacy by keeping personal details about their love under wraps.
The couple has a dog and enjoy horses
Due to their extremely private nature, it's unclear if "Black Box" actor Kelly Reilly and her husband, Kyle Baugher, have children. Yet the two definitely appear to be dog parents to an adorable Schnauzer. Reilly has posted several photos of her pup on her Instagram, and from the looks of them, he's a major part of their family. In one photo of Reilly cuddling her pup, the actor calls him "My boy" in the caption. In another post of her holding him while out in nature, she joked, "In the wilds with the most least wild creature I know."
Baugher seems to be just as smitten with their pooch, since Reilly posted a photo of her husband taking their dog on a mountain hike. It's obvious their pet is very important to the couple, with Reilly referring to him and Baugher as "my loves" in one caption, and including her pup in another post about "home."
The couple also seemingly spends a lot of time with horses. Reilly has shared multiple photos of herself riding while in Montana, as well as horses roaming in England. She also inferred that Baugher shares her interest by sharing that a photo of horses she posted was "Taken yesterday evening by husband." For Reilly specifically though, horses were part of her life even before "Yellowstone." She told Parade, "It's always been where I get my head screwed back on — just being in nature and being on horses."
They found their way to each other
It appears that Kelly Reilly really was destined to marry Kyle Baugher, considering the two grew up on different continents and had very different backgrounds. According to the Independent, the "Pride & Prejudice" actor was raised in Chessington, England, but by age 16 had moved to London to launch her acting career. Reilly then began doing theater before landing her first major role in the TV series "Prime Suspect" at only age 17.
While Reilly was rising to fame in England as a teen, Baugher was living in Southampton, New York (via Amo Mama), apparently as just your average U.S. student. He must have done well in school though since, according to his LinkedIn, he later attended the prestigious Princeton University, where he was reportedly a star player on the lacrosse team. Baugher graduated from the Ivy League college in 2002 and evidently moved to New York City to work in finance.
With that said, it's unclear where Reilly and Baugher could have met, especially because they didn't work in the same industry. However, Reilly did admit that she took a break from acting at one point to make time for relationships. She told the Evening Standard, "I was doing play after play after play in London, and I couldn't manage a great personal life and do a play." It seems that Reilly eventually did find that "great personal life" through her marriage with Baugher, which looks to just be getting better year after year.
