Selena + Chef Season 4 - Here's What We Can Tell Fans So Far
When singer Selena Gomez announced that she would be hosting her own cooking show, "Selena + Chef" on HBO Max, fans were immediately excited to see the performer cross over into a new territory. The premise of the show revolves around Gomez learning to cook different recipes, with various famous faces from celebrity chefs such as Jamie Oliver and Padma Lakshimi to other pop stars like Taylor Swift, all popping in to help on FaceTime.
"It was actually so strange because there's no one in my house, but there's these cameras everywhere ... I was like, 'That's so crazy. It comes out like so well,'" Gomez told The Koalition in November 2020. "It comes out like a normal cooking show. And that was really, really cool, but also very odd because everyone is outside just everywhere. And you're like, 'Hi, guys.'"
Although the singer and the streaming service have kept relatively quiet about the details for Season 4, here is everything fans need to know about "Selena + Chef" at the moment.
When is Selena + Chef's Season 4 release date?
After Selena Gomez's cooking show "Selena + Chef" finished airing Season 3 on HBO Max in November of 2021, viewers on the streaming service were ready to see what other recipes the celebrity singer has in store for Season 4. Right now, all that's been revealed of an official release date is that it will be some time in 2022.
According to a press release, the series was renewed in November for a fourth season, but not much has been shared as to whether they've begun filming and production for it. The time difference between the finale of Season 2 in February 2021 and premiere of Season 3 in October 2021 left an eight-month gap for fans to wait. However, the space left after Season 1 was only five months — so it might not be as long as many think, depending on when Gomez decided to film.
The location for Season 4 has also been publicly noted as a beach house, leaving potential speculation open that it was already filmed in the summer, rather than after the show's renewal announcement in November 2021.
Who will appear on Selena + Chef Season 4?
Besides Selena Gomez, the namesake of the "Selena + Chef," making an obvious return for Season 4, fans might be curious which culinary greats will be included on the cast list as well. Given that the series has filmed throughout the pandemic, the guest chefs have appeared remotely through video chat, but are still just as helpful.
One of them, "MasterChef" judge Tanya Holland, appeared in Season 1 to teach Gomez a recipe for buttermilk fried chicken and cheddar scallion biscuits. In a September 2021 interview with Mashed, Holland opened up about what it was like cooking with Gomez and being on the show. "I just thought she was really kind and sweet. And curious, and wanted to learn, and wanted to do something really well," she said.
Holland also said that while filming, the producers noted that Gomez's recreation of the biscuits looked the closest to the actual recipe than any of her other creations. "So they thought that meant that I was a good teacher," Holland said. "So I'm going to take that!"
What is the plot of Selena + Chef Season 4?
According to an official press release from WarnerMedia, "Selena + Chef" Season 4 will feature Selena Gomez, along with friends and family, as she continues learning to cook from the comforts of a beach house. The renewal announcement also noted that chefs will keep making appearances while Gomez raises money for charity, but keeps quiet about which names and organizations will be featured each episode. Past charities have included everything from food security with Feeding America and No Kid Hungry, childhood cancer with Alex's Lemonade Stand, and the NAACP.
In June 2021, after the first two seasons of "Selena + Chef" had aired, The Hollywood Reporter stated that Gomez and the show had raised $360,000 for 23 nonprofit charities. "When we first started discussing the show, this was the most important aspect to me," Gomez told the publication. "Whenever I agree to come on board with a brand partner, I always make sure there is a charity aspect to the deal."
