Who We Think Jason Momoa Should Date Next
Hearts broke when Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet announced their separation in January 2022. In a since-deleted Instagram post, Momoa shared their joint statement, which read (via The Washington Post), "We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times... A revolution is unfolding ~and our family is of no exception." They added, "We share this not because we think it's newsworthy ~ But so that~ as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty. The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other."
The post was touching, and certainly — from what we can gather from social media alone — a loving tribute to their relationship, signaling an amicable split. The former couple met in 2005 and later welcomed two children, daughter Lola and son Nakoa-Wolf, according to CNN. Momoa also grew incredibly close to Bonet's daughter, Zoë Kravitz, whom she shares with musician Lenny Kravitz. Bonet and Momoa, who married 2017 and were together for a total of 16 years, concluded their statement with the message, "May Love Prevail."
While they may be taking some time to decompress following their split, that final note seems optimistic, and hopefully, love is waiting in the horizon for both of them again. With a toast to love's eternal glory, we think the following people would be perfect for Jason Momoa to date next ... and you may have already guessed who's first on the list.
Everyone's shipping Emilia Clarke and Jason Momoa
Jason Momoa and Emilia Clarke starred on HBO's "Game of Thrones" as Khal Drogo and Daenerys Targaryen, respectively, back in 2011. Any fan of the show knows how compelling and tragic their love story was, but as a quick refresher: Drogo was a brute who became a lovable, devoted partner to Daenerys, only to die at the end of Season 1. Hey, what did anyone expect? If you started to like anyone in "GoT," they were pretty much guaranteed to get killed off.
Well, fans grew fond of the actors in real life, too. The pair stayed close over the years, with Clarke even telling Rolling Stone in 2017 about their first introduction. Noting that it happened "in a hotel lobby in Belfast," Clarke explained that she entered the hotel absolutely wiped out after a day of travel. "From the other side of this enormous lobby, I hear 'Wifey!' And this huge Hawaiian man comes bounding over to me, picks me up and ... gets me in a rugby tackle to the floor." Clarke then turned to Momoa and said, "'Who are you?'" Sounds about right!
In August 2021, both shared photos on Instagram of their reunion at a birthday party for "GoT" showrunner David Benioff. "MOON OF MY LIFE. you are wonderful love u forever," Momoa captioned his post, which featured a pic of Clarke sitting on his lap. Obviously, the comments section went wild, with people alternatively accusing Clarke of being a homewrecker and other fans hoping the two would get together.
Amber Heard and her Aquaman co-star already have a bond
Amber Heard starred alongside Jason Momoa in the 2018 DC Comics film "Aquaman," in which she played his titular character's love interest, Mera. Following her contentious split from Johnny Depp, some fans rallied to have her booted from "Aquaman 2," but that simply wasn't going to happen, as producer Peter Safran said on Deadline's "Hero Nation" podcast in 2021 — meaning that Heard and Momoa would reunite on the project, which wrapped filming that December.
As Heard, who identifies as bisexual, explained to The Sunday Times in 2015 (while she was married to Depp), "I never thought I would get married. But I've always loved who I've loved." Well, some fans may feel it's time for her to love Momoa, especially since the duo bonded on the set of the first of these aquatic action movies. "I love Jason. We had so much fun together," Heard said on "Good Morning America" in 2018, before quipping, "He is allergic to being ignored." Noting that she often reads during downtime in between filming scenes, she said that Momoa instead wanted to gab and goof off with her, so he took matters into his own hands. "He adopted this method of ripping out the pages of my book so I would pay attention to him," Heard continued. "It would drive me crazy, because I'd have 30 pages left, and it'd be gone."
Hey, at least Heard already knows what kinds of shenanigans Momoa likes to get up to.
Could Jason Momoa get back together with his ex-fiancée?
Jason Momoa could potentially reconnect with his ex-fiancée, Simmone Jade Mackinnon. She was his only real significant relationship — at least while in the public eye — before meeting Lisa Bonet. Momoa and Mackinnon hit it off in 1999 on the Hawaiian set of "Baywatch," according to PopSugar. The two became engaged in 2004, but broke up two years later
Momoa's relationship timeline gets a bit tricky here, because he met Bonet in 2005. In fact, Bonet spoke about their meet-cute to Net-A-Porter and explained, "I can't say it was full-on from the moment we saw each other, but we have been together from the day that we met." So, where did Mackinnon fit in all of this? Was there a little overlap? We can't say for certain either way, but nevertheless, Momoa and Mackinnon remained friends long after "Baywatch" and long after their relationship ended. In fact, the pair was spotted in Beverly Hills in 2013 hanging out at a house party, where Mackinnon gave her ex-fiancé a very warm welcome, per the Daily Mail.
From initial paparazzi photos, it looked like she was kissing him right on the mouth, but the outlet explained that this wasn't the case. Instead, she gave him "a very amiable kiss on the cheek," and from certain camera angles, it looked more intimate. For people who couldn't quite tell who the woman was, a source confirmed that it was Momoa's ex, adding, "They're still good friends." At the very least, these two already have history.
These Game of Thrones stars have a lot in common
Another "Game of Thrones" star who could be a potential date for Jason Momoa is none other than Lena Headey. The British actor played Cersei Lannister in the HBO series, and while onscreen it seemed like all of the actors were at each other's throats, behind the cameras, everyone has famously appeared very close.
While the characters of Khal Drogo and Cersei never collide thanks to their disparate countries in the show, the actors who play them seem to have a lot in common as real people. Both bonded over their mutual love of Emilia Clarke when she shared a 2019 Instagram post about her charity, Same You, for survivors of brain injury and stroke. (Clarke herself suffered two cerebral aneurysm bleeds). Momoa wrote (via The Richest), "You are an inspiration my love. Love u," while Headey commented, "You are a gift Mrs." Clearly, they both adore Clarke!
Both Momoa and Headey have also addressed the infamous nudity on "GoT," which was evident to fans and likely challenging for the actors. Momoa took a lighter approach and joked with Entertainment Weekly, "I lay naked in furs a lot. I think I'm naked more than I talk." Meanwhile, Headey told the outlet, "There's a lot of sexual intrigue going on. And we don't shy away from that." (Any ardent viewer can attest to this.)
To boot, after Headey split from producer husband Dan Cadan in 2019, a source told The Sun she wanted to move to stateside — which seems convenient for the duo's dating prospects.
Nathalie Emmanuel and Jason Momoa would have a blast
Nathalie Emmanuel joined the "Game of Thrones" cast in Season 3 as Missandei, close companion to Emilia Clarke's Daenerys Targaryen. Of course, since Jason Momoa's Khal Drogo got lobbed off by the end of Season 1, the two didn't overlap in their "GoT" careers, but the cast has remained close and the two have working with Clarke in common. Plus, during a 2017 appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!", Emmanuel admitted to being "obsessed" with the fantasy show before landing the spot, so she was well aware of Momoa — and since he's clearly still close with the cast, we can surmise he's also aware of her.
The two have something else in common: They're both major contenders for the sexiest people alive. FHM put Emmanuel on its list for "100 sexiest women in the world 2015," per MSN. She ranked in at 75. Meanwhile, Momoa was suggested as a nomination by John Legend, who was dubbed People magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" in 2019. "Going by my Twitter mentions when I was named of who people said should have been picked over me, I got a lot of Jason Momoa," Legend told People in 2020. "That's the one person that stood out in the Twitter feedback."
In addition to potentially bonding over their placement on these lists (and frankly, they could both rank way higher), Emmanuel also looks like a blast to hang out with, judging from her Instagram presence. We know Momoa's a wild child himself, so we think these two would have so much fun.
Sharon Duncan-Brewster enjoyed working with him
Sharon Duncan-Brewster was the treasure of "Dune," where she played Dr. Liet Kynes alongside Jason Momoa's Duncan Idaho. Duncan-Brewster had a lot to say about the first time she met Momoa, namely about how tall he was. Girl, keep talking! She spoke with ComicBook in October 2021 about what it was like to film in Wadi Rum, a protected desert in Jordan, and it was here that she first met the Hawaiian hunk, while hanging around the assembled houses for the actors.
"I had my first scene with Jason Momoa," she said. "... Jason comes out of his car with his entourage, and he walks towards me. And he's walking at me from a distance, but then he gets bigger, and then he gets bigger, and I just was like, 'Is this going to stop?'" Duncan-Brewster had to add in the midst of this, "He's a lovely guy." This seems to be the universal consensus, and this experience of getting to know Momoa made Duncan-Brewster understand all the hype surrounding the star. "So I'm looking up here," she went on, speaking of meeting Momoa, "and going, 'Oh, this is what they're talking about,' because all my friends are like, 'Oh my gosh, Jason Momoa, Jason Momoa, Jason Momoa.'" (Sounds like a chant we can get behind.)
As far as age, Duncan-Brewster was born in 1976, per her IMDb credits, while Momoa was born in 1979. That three-year age gap is nothing: Lisa Bonet is 12 years older than her ex-husband.
Sylvia Hoeks loves 'humor' in a man
Jason Momoa and Sylvia Hoeks (pictured, far right) co-starred in the 2019 Apple TV drama series "See," a sci-fi production that chronicles a post-apocalyptic experience where everyone has lost their sight. Momoa, who plays the character Baba Voss, is at odds with Hoeks' onscreen persona, Queen Kane. But offscreen, it's pretty evident how much Hoeks admires Momoa. In a 2019 interview with Collider, she wanted to stress how intense the series was: When the interviewer noted that it was "not some lighthearted, PG-13 show," Hoeks confirmed, "Exactly. When you see Jason fighting ... the fights are very real. And my praying to God is very real."
Prior to her starring on "See," Hoeks spoke with Men's Journal about some of her favorite things. When asked about "what makes a man sexy in [her] eyes," Hoeks said, "Self-humor — don't take yourself too seriously. If a man's able to laugh about himself, that's good. You can be in love with a man, or share his bed, but if there's no humor, there's nothing." When asked about her favorite pickup lines, she admitted, "No pickup lines! They're the worst. But I love jokes. In a group, I feel like one of the guys. I'm very comfortable with men — they're freer and a lot of fun!"
In the same interview, Hoeks also spoke about starring in "Blade Runner 2049" and how she worked out for "six hours a day, six days a week, for three months before and six months during shooting." Clearly, she and action star Momoa could crush it together.
Jessica Matten has stayed close with Jason Momoa
Indigenous Canadian actor Jessica Matten starred alongside Jason Momoa in the Netflix series "Frontier," a vivid portrayal of the fur trade industry in Canada. Momoa played Declan Harp while Matten portrayed Sokanon. The role was very significant to Matten, who told Real Style Network in 2017: "In a lot of ways, with the show and this character, I feel like I'm helping play a part in showing justice in what it means to be an Ingenious woman. Even if it's a character in the 1800s, I feel like the role has helped humanize the experience of being an Ingenious person in North America."
Not only was the part worthwhile, but it also put her in contact with Momoa. When asked what it was like to work with him, Matten made mention of his then-marriage to Lisa Bonet, adding, "He has just been super supportive and a joy to work with. He is such a leader. He is very giving and a big family man. He is always on the phone with his lovely wife. He is all around a good guy and full of energy."
Momoa and Matten have also stayed in contact since "Frontier's" 2018 conclusion. In 2020, she told Elle, "My buddy Jason Momoa is back in town shooting the second season of his show." Though Matten admitted they're "like brother and sister," she mentioned plans to meet up for drinks. That same year, she shared a birthday tribute to her former co-star on Instagram.
Would he have to compete for Regina King's heart?
Regina King and Jason Momoa both know what it takes to play DC superheroes: King starred as Angela Abar/Sister Night in the TV series "Watchmen," while Momoa has obviously played "Aquaman."
King was born in 1971, making her eight years older than Momoa, but based on his dating history, we doubt this would ever be a problem for him. The two also got to hang out while on "The Graham Norton Show" along with Emilia Clarke in 2019, where King joked of their multiple connections, "We have six degrees going on in so many different ways." Later during the episode, the panel spoke about Momoa shaving off his beard for "Dune," and King was all about it. "It means you've got a good chin," she said of the popularity of Momoa going fresh-faced. "Because some beards are on because they're hiding a tiny chin." Obviously, Momoa's hiding nothing. Norton, who also has a beard, playfully roasted her with, "Alright, Regina, I think we've heard enough." Both King and Momoa thought it was hilarious.
King was previously married to music producer Ian Alexander, per The U.S. Sun, from 1997 to 2007. Although she seems to be single, as of this writing, Momoa might have some healthy competition. While appearing on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" in 2019, she said that she got to meet her celeb crush once — who was not, in fact, Momoa, but rather Sam Elliott. "Oh my God, I love that man," King said while smiling big. Sounds like Momoa better act fast!
Pom Klementieff and Jason Momoa's MCU connection
French actor Pom Klementieff is another leading lady we could see dating Jason Momoa. The two have a round-about connection through "Guardians of the Galaxy," with Klementieff playing Mantis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, both in the "Avengers" franchise and in the "GotG" series.
Conversely, Momoa once auditioned for a part in the first "Guardians" movie, telling Entertainment Weekly in 2018, "I met the Russo brothers, who are amazing. It was one of the best meetings I've ever had. I was going to do something with them, which unfortunately didn't work out." Momoa later added, "People always want to hire me to play a villain, you know? I did an audition for 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' which was super cool. ... That didn't work out." But that one hiccup didn't stop Momoa from later landing the part of Aquaman, and the rest is history. The DCEU got him instead of the MCU. Meanwhile, Klementieff spoke at the first sequel's premiere and said it was a "dream" come true to get cast as Mantis. "I'm a little bit weird in the movie, which is cool," she added. (Sorry to rub it in, Jason.)
Momoa and Klementieff were actually both at the 2017 Denver ComicCon, according to The Denver Post, where their respective events for "Aquaman," "Game of Thrones," and "Guardians of the Galaxy" were held on the same days. So, we have reason to believe they might have crossed paths at some point.
Rose McGowan has already kissed Jason Momoa
Rose McGowan famously gave Jason Momoa a big smooch right on the lips on the red carpet. (We've gotta wonder how Lisa Bonet felt about that, since they were already a longtime item then.) The kiss occurred at the Los Angeles premiere for "Conan the Barbarian," a 2011 film starring Momoa as, you guessed it, Conan, while McGowan played evil sorceress Marique.
McGowan caught up with Complex to discuss how their version was different from the 1982 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, and she felt that Momoa was a major reason for its success. "Our movie goes more into the overall mythology of 'Conan,' versus it being just an ordinary remake," she began. "... The guy who was [the] creator of the original character, Robert E. Howard, died when he was 30, I believe, but I think he would be immensely pleased with this version, and with Jason Momoa being cast as Conan, because he wrote the character to be an authentic barbarian. I think we've found that." Clearly, McGowan thought very highly of Momoa.
The two fought each other in the film, which typically makes for a little fun offscreen, and even though the movie itself was considered cheesy at best, The New York Times had some nice things to say about McGowan's portrayal and her onscreen feud with Momoa: "She's pretty and pretty ridiculous, but the digital sandmen her character summons up to fight Conan, which burst out of the ground like rockets and explode into dust, are nifty." So, there you have it.
Jason Momoa loves Jessica Gomes' home country
We believe Australian model Jessica Gomes has what it takes to create a promising relationship with Jason Momoa. The two worked together on the 2017 film "Once Upon a Time in Venice," where Momoa played Spider and Gomes was Nola — aka Bruce Willis' onscreen love interest. Gomes herself joked with The Daily Telegraph about the age gap represented here (via The Sun), saying, "Yes, he's 60, he's my dad's age, so that was pretty full-on. I was like, 'Oh my gosh, I'm with Bruce Willis right now and we're making out.'" Based on her comments, she'd likely be more comfortable with somebody a bit younger.
The film itself was absolutely panned by critics, earning an abysmal 21% on Rotten Tomatoes, but sometimes life has hits and sometimes it has misses. In the meantime, the Aussie beauty likes to keep busy with beach days and loads of time in nature, just based on her Instagram presence, so clearly, she and Momoa seem to have lots in common. In fact, Momoa is a huge fan of the land Down Under. While he told The Daily Telegraph how fond he is of the food and booze there, his favorite part of the country is its residents. "What makes Australia so beautiful I think is just the people," Momoa said (via the Daily Mail). "The great people who work hard and play hard and they ... have a great outlook on life."
Clearly, in this sense, Gomes fits the bill. Surf's up, anyone?
