Josh Allen Sets The Record Straight About Patrick Mahomes' On-The-Field Behavior
Some are hailing the January 23 Bills vs. Chiefs AFC playoff game as one of the greatest games in NFL history. It was a showdown between NFL star Patrick Mahomes and fellow star Josh Allen, who are considered the league's future. Mahomes threw for 378 yards and three touchdowns, and Allen racked up 329 yards passing and four scores. The Kansas City vs. Buffalo game was wild, with four lead changes in the last two minutes of the fourth quarter, sending the game into overtime. The matchup ended with the Chiefs winning after a touchdown pass from Mahomes to Travis Kelce, per USA Today.
Mahomes, the Chiefs QB, complimented Allen during the post-game press conference, according to Sports Illustrated. "Josh played his ass off, pardon my language," Mahomes said. "It was a great game between two great football teams ... We're going to play this team a lot of times in games like this. With that quarterback, with that coaching staff, and the players they have, there's going to be a lot of battles. I'm glad we got this one." The young Kansas City quarterback was classy to give the Buffalo QB credit, but you might be surprised by what Allen had to say about Mahomes behavior after the game.
Patrick Mahomes ran across field to talk to Josh Allen
After the chaotic Chiefs vs. Bills playoff game, winning Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes ran across the football field to give Buffalo's Josh Allen a post-game hug, according to Sports Illustrated. Allen told reporters after the game how much he appreciated Mahomes' effort. "It was tough to be in that moment," said Allen. "Again, I have a lot of respect for Pat. He throws the winning touchdown, and he comes straight over and finds me. To be in that situation and to do that, that was pretty cool of him to do that."
26-year-old Mahomes is the youngest quarterback in NFL history to win two Super Bowls, per CBS Sports. Some have compared the young Chiefs QB to G.O.A.T. quarterback Tom Brady, and it turns out Brady thinks highly of Mahomes. In fact, the KC star might have learned a lesson from Brady off the field. When the Patriots beat Kansas City in the 2018 AFC Championship, Brady went to talk to Mahomes in the Chief's locker room after the game. Chiefs coach Andy Reid told USA Today, "[Brady] is arguably the best quarterback to ever play the game ... I think was a tremendous gesture and it was heartfelt."
It was nice to see Mahomes and Allen's good sportsmanship. We can't wait to see what's next from the star quarterbacks!
