The Real Meaning Behind The Weeknd's Here We Go... Again Featuring Tyler The Creator

Fans of The Weeknd were ready and eagerly waiting for the star to drop new music on January 7. Indeed, while talking to Variety way back in May, The Weeknd was already getting fans excited by teasing them with details about his new music, saying, "If the last record is the after hours of the night, then the dawn is coming." He wasn't kidding about that! In fact, his new album is called "Dawn FM."

Along with the new collection of songs that are all surely worthy of your favorite playlist, The Weeknd teamed up with Tyler, the Creator which was also something he dropped a hint about in August 2021 when he was asked by GQ who he would be interested in collaborating with. While also mentioning Arca and Kanye West, The Weeknd explained, "I got mad love for Tyler, the Creator, and what he's doing right now ... He's somebody that I really admire, because he wears his feelings on his sleeve."

The fact that Tyler is so open with his emotions is surely one of the reasons that when he ended up working with The Weeknd on a new tune — "Here We Go... Again" — it ended up being an incredibly honest song about something deeply personal.

The Weeknd and Tyler the Creator know love doesn't always last

"Said you wanted your boyfriend jealous with a couple pics / And you didn't expect to fall for me once you got this d—," er, you can likely guess how The Weeknd ends that line in the first verse of "Here We Go... Again," per Genius. Seemingly discussing a certain someone from the past, he very well might be talking about his former girlfriend Bella Hadid.

Of course, The Weeknd also mentions his "new girl, she a movie star." He was spotted with Angelina Jolie. Whoever he's referring to, things aren't necessarily easy-breezy, because he admits in the chorus, "Life's a dream / 'Cause it's never what it seems / But you'd rather love and lost with tears / Than never love at all / So here we go again."

Granted, things don't seem to be any smoother when Tyler, the Creator takes over in the second verse. "Although this love is strong to me / Some things can change, go wrong with me / We don't know how it's gonna be / Forever is too long to me," he admits. After also noting that they don't need the government or religion involved in their relationship, he does explain, "But if we did crush down the road, spendin' lawyer fees up / Pen and pad gon' save my ass if these feelings freeze up / You gon' sign this prenup." At least he's being practical.
