How Milo Ventimiglia Really Feels About Mandy Moore's Husband
Milo Ventimiglia and Mandy Moore have been playing onscreen husband and wife for more than five years on the popular NBC family drama "This Is Us." The show is approaching its end, with the sixth and final season having premiered on January 4. A lot has happened during the journey, and Ventimiglia and Moore consider themselves lucky to have been able to count on each other. "He's such a special guy, it's really not hard to have to just love him. I feel very safe. I feel very, like, protected with him," Moore said of her co-star in a January 2017 interview with ET, adding that no other co-worker has ever elicited that feeling before.
Ventimiglia is indeed protective of Moore. In fact, the two made a sort of pact before the show premiered in 2016. "We just kind of raised our glasses to one another. We almost took vows with one another where it was like, 'Hey, I promise to always communicate. I promise to not be happy until you're happy. I will always look out for you.' And all that," Ventimiglia said on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on January 4. Like Moore, Ventimiglia also considers her "the best partner I've ever had."
With the deep bond they share, Ventimiglia and Moore probably are probably the best thermometers when it comes to judging each other's love interests. While Ventimiglia is happily single, Moore married Taylor Goldsmith during the show's run — and Ventimiglia has strong feelings about him.
Milo Ventimiglia thinks highly of Mandy Moore's husband
Mandy Moore met Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith via Instagram around mid-2015, she told People, not long before she started working on "This Is Us." That means her romantic life with the musician evolved alongside her success on the show, which has earned her nominations for a Golden Globe and an Emmy, per IMDb. It also means that Milo Ventimiglia watched the development of their relationship from up close. He couldn't be happier for his co-star and friend, albeit a tad disappointed Goldsmith didn't think to consult him before proposing to Moore.
"I didn't get asked for her hand in marriage, like (as her) TV husband," he joked on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" in September 2017, shortly after Moore announced her engagement. He got over it quickly, though. "I was okay with it. It was fine," he deadpanned. Brushing aside the small gaffe, Ventimiglia thinks the world of Goldsmith and his connection with Moore. "Taylor is the kindest soul, as is Mandy — she's like the most beautiful of human beings. So the two of them coming together, it's right and it's good," Ventimiglia said.
Ventimiglia isn't the only "This Is Us" star to approve of the marriage. Justin Hartley, who plays Ventimiglia and Moore's son, has a similar opinion of Goldsmith. "Taylor's an amazing guy. He found a wonderful woman. They're like-minded. They're two of the nicest humans and smartest people I've ever met," he told Elle. "They're going to be great together."
Mandy Moore considers her This Is Us co-stars family
For Mandy Moore, the cast of "This Is Us" is like an extended family, she said on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" in 2017. "Everybody is very close ... We're like one big family. We really are, as cheesy and gross as that sounds," Moore told DeGeneres. And they sure act as such. In fact, the whole crew found out about Moore's engagement to Taylor Goldsmith at the same time. "We found out via our group text chain that we are constantly on, the whole cast, and we couldn't be happier," Justin Hartley told Elle 2017.
The interactions between cast members are clearly similar to those of a family, which is why it was important for Moore that her TV family met her real-life one. When Moore gave birth to her and Goldsmith's son, Gus, in February 2021, she knew she wanted her co-stars to meet him. In June 2021, Moore was finally able to introduce her little guy to Sterling K. Brown, who, like Hartley, plays her and Ventimiglia's son on the show.
The event was captured on camera, and Moore couldn't help but share it on Instagram. "My two sons," she captioned an Instagram post, which included two shots of Brown holding Gus. Brown was equally happy to share this moment with Moore. "I got to hold Gus the other day and he's just ... I love babies ... Mandy's going to be the best mom," Brown told Us Weekly.
