The True Meaning Behind Come To Life By Kanye West

Kanye West embodies the definition of a music genius. He is a rapper, producer, fashion icon, and overall legend in the industry. In 2020, West dropped his 10th studio album, "Donda," which was named after his late mother. The project was packed with a lengthy track list, high-profile features, mixed with intriguing beats and lyrics that reflect the rapper's new way of living.

"Donda" was a massive hit worldwide and broke several streaming records on the first day of its release. According to Billboard, the album set a new Apple music record, Chart Data announced that "Donda" reached 1 billion streams on Spotify — making it West's fastest growing album of all time. This particular project not only had a cultural impact in hip-hop, but also solidified West's ability to dominate the industry over two decades later.

On a recent interview with Drink Champs, West opened up to hosts N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN about the release of his album and his career up until this point. "I literally had to go Thanos and I don't want to have to be the villain. But when I went and did the 'Donda' thing, Ye returned and everybody had to sit back and watch the real leader."

An inside look into the what caused the split between Kanye West and Kim Kardashian

Throughout "Come to Life," it appears Kanye West is battling with his emotions of wanting to stay married to wife Kim Kardashian — who is currently divorcing the rapper — but also bearing the regrets of not being an active listener. "Took your thoughts and penciled 'em in / Should've wrote 'em down in pen / And maybe they'd come to life," he raps on the track.

Most notably, however, is the fact that Kardashian herself appears in the "Come to Life" music video — wearing a wedding dress. Considering the record is about love, sadness, confusion, and the desire to rekindle with someone special — not to mention their current divorce — Kardashian's feature in the video turned heads.

Completely covered from head-to-toe and a veil hiding her face, the cameras show the reality star gracefully walk through of crowd of people dressed in all black, as her husband raps, "You know where to find me / They cannot define me / So they crucify me / How so fazed when I leave?" He then quickly switches the vibe as he sings to his wife, "Come and purify me / come and sanctify me / You the air that I breathe / the ultra-ultralight beam."

The two meet in the middle and as West grabs his wife's veil, everything turns black, and the music video ends.

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian spark rumors of calling off the divorce

On the intro to the song — during which a preacher speaks about God's goodness, Kanye West starts to sing, "Ever wish you had another life?"

The rapper has also been open about his marriage, and the struggles he and Kim Kardashian aced as a couple. In the first verse of "Come to life," he raps, "Gotta make my mark 'fore I'm gone / I don't wanna die alone / I don't wanna die alone / I get mad when she gone / Mad when she home / Sad when she gone."

Despite West's pleas on "Come to Life" — and sharing such a powerful moment with Kardashian in the "Come to Life" music video — Kardashian is still going through with their divorce. West has always been open about his love for the mother of his four children and a source close to People said, "They were not in a good place around the time Kim filed for divorce. She is so happy that things are better now. It's all very beneficial for the kids."
