The Truth About Ice-T's Biggest Celeb Feuds
You know him as the voice behind the hit song "Check Yo Self" and the actor playing NYPD Detective Tutuola on NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." For decades, Ice-T has been leaving fans wanting more, whether he's been involved in the arts as a rapper, songwriter, actor, or producer. Interestingly enough, Ice-T didn't want to take on the role of Detective Tutuola when it was first presented to him.
"I didn't want to do it at the time. I was living in LA trying to create a digital record label," he told Stereogum. "I got the call to do the show, and I said, 'Ah, nah, I can't go to New York.' They wanted me for four episodes, and my boys were like, 'Go Ice, you love New York. We're not gonna steal any money from you — we're not making any money yet.'" After Ice-T relented and accepted the job, those four episodes swiftly morphed into more than two decades, and now, he's a household name.
But while his accolades are well-known, off-camera fans may be surprised to learn that Ice-T has been embroiled in a number of celebrity feuds. The identities of some of the people Ice-T has feuded with behind the scenes are especially surprising.
Ice-T and Soulja Boy had beef in 2008
Back in 2008, Ice-T and Soulja Boy became engaged in a verbal altercation after Ice-T said, "F**k Soulja Boy!" in one of his mixtapes by DJ Cisco, according to Complex. The outlet quoted Ice-T as also saying, "Eat a d**k!" and Ice-T went as far as to claim that Soulja Boy had "killed" hip-hop.
But Soulja Boy clapped back at Ice-T on YouTube, stating, "You were born before the Internet was created-how did you even find me?" In what Complex called his "round 2" video, Ice-T said that Soulja Boy was "going up against 'the whole West Coast, all the OGs.'" The feud left headlines for a few years until 2011, when Ice-T slammed the younger rapper once again, and he retaliated by telling Ice-T to "grow a hairline."
In 2017, the beef appeared to be a thing of the past. Reflecting on it with Revolt, Ice-T said of the mixtape that triggered the fight, "That was one of my Ice-T old man rants. He was never supposed to hear that." He added, "God bless Soulja Boy. Now you see this guy and look where his life is. You don't really gotta do nothing to nobody."
Ice-T and LL Cool J were embroiled in years of fighting
The feuds don't end there. Ice-T was reportedly also involved in a conflict with LL Cool J. He spoke about the root of the disagreement with Revolt, stating, "What happened was with him, he was saying he was the greatest rapper ever. And I was coming out from the West Coast. How was I going to be able to taken seriously if I let someone say they were the best? So I had to rep."
There was back-and-forth between the two rappers for years, but interestingly, they didn't meet until years after their "feud." Ice-T told Revolt of the moment they met: "I ran into LL in Monte Carlo. We shook [hands] and everything. But this happened maybe five years ago. Up to that point I hadn't crossed LL's path or nothing like that."
Ice-T also got into it with singer Aimee Mann. When Mann wrote a tweet criticizing Ice-T's acting, he replied with his own choice words. "Hey @aimeemann stop worrying bout my acting b***h, and worry about your WACK a** music. In the mean time ... Eat a hot bowl of D**ks!" Mann later apologized, writing, "He doesn't need any heckling from the peanut gallery. So, I am sorry, Mr. T! You get out there and DO IT!", per TV Guide. That's when Ice-T ended the debacle for good, writing, "OK. Homegirl apologized ... Say no more. FLTG Cease fire! Once again there's Peace in Twitterland."
