DeMarcus Family Rules Season 2 - Here's What We Can Tell Fans So Far
In August 2020, Netflix introduced viewers to another well-known family with "DeMarcus Family Rules." The show follows Rascal Flatts band member Jay DeMarcus, his wife, Allison DeMarcus, and their two children, Madeline Leigh and Dylan Jay. Each episode gives viewers a glimpse into the DeMarcus family dynamic, as well as how Jay and Allison navigate their marriage, per Country Living.
While "DeMarcus Family" is their first reality show as a family, Jay and Allison are not newbies to the genre, as they both have appeared on "Chrisley Knows Best," starring Todd Chrisley and his cheeky brood. "A TV show wasn't really in our thoughts," Jay told Taste of Country. "We had gone on ["Chrisley Knows Best"] a few times and had fun — they're dear people and great friends of ours. But after a few episodes, they took us out to dinner one night, and Todd said, 'I think you guys have a show.'" He added, "He had to talk us into it, but as it unfolded, we developed a love for doing it as a family."
With Jay's loyal fanbase, it's not surprising that the show has found success on the streaming service. The question is, will there be a second season?
Jay DeMarcus isn't stressed about Season 2
As of this writing, Netflix has not released any information about whether a second season of "DeMarcus Family Rules," will premiere on the streaming platform. The first season was released in August 2020 and featured six episodes with a run-time between 25 to 30 minutes, per Forbes.
Netflix's delay in announcing a second season could be attributed to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected filming schedules for many reality tv show productions. As such, viewers could expect Netflix to announce a second season of "DeMarcus Family Rules" in summer 2022. Jay also understands that patience is key, telling Forbes, "We're trying not to look too far ahead. We're hoping that everybody enjoys this first season enough for us to even get a second season."
In the meantime, Jay and Allison are focusing on their family. "With all of the things life throws at you, it's so much easier to shoulder them, when you've got this kind of foundation," Jay wrote via Instagram on Thanksgiving. "I'm so grateful."
DeMarcus Family Rules' cast could grow
Although Netflix has yet to announce a release date for a second season of "DeMarcus Family Rules," it is likely that Jay DeMarcus, his wife, Allison DeMarcus, and their kids, Madeline Leigh, and Dylan Jay will all return to the show. After all, part of the draw is watching their lives as a family.
Loyal viewers of "DeMarcus Family Rules," would know that Jay and Allison make a good team because of their personalities; Jay is the rule-breaker whereas Allison is the rule-follower. The couple met on the set of the Rascal Flatts music video for "These Days" in 2002, per Country Living, and have been inseparable ever since.
Of course, extended family members of the DeMarcus clan could also make appearances in the second season. Allison has made it clear that family moments are what make their show so captivating even though it can be hard work sometimes. "Whether it was Madeline's birthday party, because that's a lot anyway, a camping trip, or having the entire family here for Thanksgiving, just adding more people in the house to film it was a little crazy," she told People. "But you watch families who have done shows and people can feel if you're being authentic and open about things, or if you're not." She continued, "So when we signed up for it, we knew that we were either going to share our lives or not, you know?"
Nothing is off-limits on DeMarcus Family Rules
Having been in the spotlight for numerous years, the DeMarcus family were used to being on camera but also felt nervous about how they were going to be portrayed. "It was nerve-wracking [watching the final cut] but I got about two or three episodes in and I realized — I'm really funny," Jay DeMarcus told People. "It really was a relief being able to finally watch it. I think the show has a lot of heart and more importantly, I think people are going to see pieces of themselves in our family."
He added, "Everybody deals with the same crap. We all have crazy family members that you sit around and wonder, 'How in the world am I related to this person?' And if you can't think of a crazy family member, then you're probably the one."
Well, it looks like Jay and his family will be up to more shenanigans when and if the show returns to Netflix in 2022. Until then, viewers can refresh their memories by streaming the first season on the platform.
