Here's Why The Song In The Kohl's 'Family Fun' Commercial Is So Familiar

Have you ever heard a song that gets stuck so deep in your head you can't remember where you've heard it before? Or, to drive you even more insane, one that has a melody so familiar you swear you've heard it elsewhere? That might very well be the case for anyone who has heard the recent Kohl's "Family Fun" commercial or any variations of it in the last year or two. The sweet strumming alongside the crooning of the phrase "endless possibilities" is enough to reminisce about a past sunny season of fun.

No wonder Kohl's has used this same song time and time again in its advertisements. It appears they've used it 38 times to be exact, per the list of the songs used in Kohl's commercials from iSpot.tv. If the intention is to capture the serendipitous nature of family time, mission accomplished! But what is it about this particular song that seems so familiar and where else has this sound been?

You've heard 'Endless Possibilities' before

That particular Kohl's commercial earworm is a song called "Endless Possibilities" by Oh, Hush! and Keegan Calmes. "Endless Possibilities" was also featured in a Clorox commercial as well. While you might not be familiar with Oh, Hush!, you are probably familiar with their music because they have been all over the map.

Oh, Hush! Is actually composed of Chris Sernel, former sound mixer for Disney's "Liv and Maddie: Cali Style" and music mixer from "Austin & Ally", according to IMDb. Sernel also composed songs for "The Simpsons," "The Lego Ninjago Movie" and "The Lego Batman Movie" (via IMDb). Remember the "Friends Are Family" bop from "Lego Batman"? That was Sernel!

In addition to working on his own music, Sernel has also produced or mixed music with some huge musical talents including Cee Lo Green, Jason Derulo, Dove Cameron, 5th Harmony, and Weezer, according to his Sound Better profile. No wonder Sernel's music has a way of sticking around, he's wearing so many hats in the music industry!

Being Oh, Hush! gives songwriter Chris Sernel some distance

In a 2007 interview with AZ Teen Magazine, it seemed like the identities (or in this case, identity) of the band Oh, Hush! was still ... hush-hush. But that didn't stop Chris Sernel from letting fans know that the intention of being anonymous was to keep the focus on the music. "Everything we do is a clue as to who we are. Everytime I type a response, there's more information about who I am and who the band is. Every song and picture that is posted is a clue! But again, this thing is ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC!!" he said.

Earlier this year, Sernel collaborated with Chinese pop icon Liu Yuning on the song "Magical Surprise" for the 5th anniversary of the Shanghai Disney Resort (per DAPSMagic). It's safe to say that Sernel's unique sound is now a part of the international music culture. If you hear any more songs that remind you of Kohl's commercials, Lego songs, or Disney Channel originals, it may very well be Oh, Hush!
