The Truth About Kathy Hilton's Reaction To Paris Hilton's Boarding School Abuse Claims

In 2020, Paris Hilton opened up about the alleged abuse she experienced while at boarding school in Utah in a documentary called, "This Is Paris." Now, she is getting candid about her time at the school, once again. In a November episode of the Peacock series, "Paris in Love," Hilton explained that, when she was 16 and her family moved to New York, she "started sneaking out at night" and "ditching school." Her parents then sent her to boarding school. "They didn't realize it was pure torture camp. I was verbally, physically, emotionally, psychologically abused on a daily basis," she said.

The school, Provo Canyon School, released a statement to People last year, stating that they had changed their ownership in August 2000, after Paris attended. "We therefore cannot comment on the operations or patient experience prior to that time. We are committed to providing high-quality care to youth with special, and often complex, emotional, behavioral and psychiatric needs." But how did her mom, Kathy Hilton, react when she learned the shocking truth?

Paris Hilton doesn't bring up the subject with her mother

Speaking to her brother, Barron Hilton, Paris Hilton explained that the subject of the alleged abuse doesn't come up with her mother, Kathy Hilton. "I just feel like they just don't want to think about it, just like I didn't want to think about it and didn't talk about it for 20 years," Paris said during an episode of her new Peacock series, "Paris in Love." "It's painful to think about, to like, open that up."

Speaking to cameras, Paris added that, when she brings up Provo, her mom changes the subject. Paris continued, "I don't want to hurt her feelings. I don't want to upset her." She explained that Kathy is "so fun and chill, she doesn't like to get serious." Paris admitted that she doesn't tend to have very serious conversations with her mother. "She just likes to be happy. I don't want to kill her vibe," she said.

Barron subsequently told his sister that more in-depth and serious conversations with Kathy could be "worth exploring."

Paris Hilton's parents haven't seen her documentary

While Paris Hilton's parents haven't yet watched her documentary, she says that she knows they feel bad for sending her to Provo."[B]ut I don't think that they really understand what I went through because they never watched the documentary. So they don't really know all the details." Paris added that she hopes they can air everything out one day because she has been "holding all this in" for years.

Paris concluded, "I'm about to get married and I really just wish we could just talk about it so I can just let it go. Because I feel like I don't know if I'll fully ever release this unless we speak about it." Paris got married in November to Carter Reum. The nuptials took place in Bel Air, at Paris's grandfather's former estate. She told People, "I always imagined having my fairy tale wedding there since I was a little girl. There are so many memories at the estate that I hold dearly, so to be able to celebrate my love story there was amazing."
