What Taissa Farmiga Has Been Up To Since American Horror Story
She may be only 27, but Taissa Farmiga has led an impressive and full career as an actor. The New Jersey native has dabbled in everything — film, TV, and even the stage. In 2016, Farmiga made her Broadway debut in the play "Buried Child." Prior to that, she starred in films like "Mindscape" and "The Bling Ring." Most people, however, recognize Farmiga from her role in the anthology series "American Horror Story," where she appeared in the seasons "Murder House," "Coven," "Roanoke," and "Apocalypse."
Farmiga was encouraged to act after her sister, Vera Farmiga, decided she wanted to use her in the 2011 film "Higher Ground" to play a younger version of herself, per Fade In Online. Today, Vera is a well-known actor who not only received an Oscar nomination for her role in "Up in the Air," but currently has three projects in post-production. And like her sister, Taissa, too, has spent a great deal of 2021 building her acting résumé, and is even slated to play a large role in a highly anticipated series.
Taissa Farmiga will star in an HBO series
Taissa Farmiga last appeared on "American Horror Story" in 2018. She has since acted in six projects according to IMDb: "The Mule," "The Twilight Zone," "Justice League Dark: Apokolips War," "50 States of Fright," "Jack and the Hole," and her most recent project is a series called "The Gilded Age." In 2019, Deadline announced that Farmiga had been cast in the HBO drama series, which tells the story of "millionaire titans of New York City in the 1880s." Farmiga joined a talented cast that had already included Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Amanda Peet, and Morgan Spector.
In the show, Farmiga's character, Gladys Russell, is described by Deadline as the daughter of a wealthy family who hopes to stop being treated like a child and yearns to get out and meet potential suitors. In a 2019 interview with the Build series, Farmiga shared that, while she typically plays heavy dramatic roles, she is a very "light" and "happy" person. "In my work life, I like to dive into things that are deeper," she said. "But I normally hop in and out of that because I can't sit in that for long."
Taissa Farmiga recently appeared in 'Jack and the Hole'
Earlier this year, director Pascual Sisto released the film "Jack and the Hole," starring Charlie Stowell, Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Ehle, and Taissa Farmiga. In an interview with Deadline, Farmiga said of the script, "I was a bit horrified and a bit uneasy, yet I couldn't stop thinking about John. For me, I saw this boy who was yearning for connection with his family, a boy lost in the confusion of adolescence." The movie earned a 59% on Rotten Tomatoes with a low audience score of 28%. Critic Clarisse Loughrey wrote that the film was "both tantalizing and deliberately unsatisfying" while Peter Bradshaw held that the film's plot had "nothing at stake."
Prior to "Jack and the Hole," Farmiga also appeared in multiple episodes of the TV series short "50 States of Fright." According to IMDb, the Quibi series focused on urban legends from different areas of the U.S. and dove into "the horrors that lurk beneath the surface." Despite appearing in "50 States of Fright" and "American Horror Story," fans may be surprised to learn that Farmiga isn't a fan of horror movies. In 2018, she told IndieWire, "I always had an amazing time on 'American Horror Story,' [but] it actually helped me discover that I'm a very scared person. I'm very jumpy, I scare very easily. So, when you have to go play these emotions like fear and terror, I realized that comes kind of natural to me." Based on her track record, it seems likely that Farmiga will be cast in another horrifying tale in no time.
