Orlando Bloom Sticks Up For Pirates Co-Star Johnny Depp
Johnny Depp's got a friend in Orlando Bloom.
"The man that I know and love is the man who's here tonight," Bloom, referring to Depp, told People at the May 18, 2017 premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, "and he's like on form and does everything the right way."
"You know, people go through all kinds of weird stuff in the world and it's just a shame that it has to be dragged out in public," the 40-year-old told the magazine. "Because, God knows he's been one of the most private and stand-up people I've ever met."
Bloom, of course, is referring to the recent bad press surrounding his Pirates co-star. In recent months, Depp's been accused of frivolous spending habits that have plunged him into steep debt—$40 million, to be exact. Depp, though, blames his former management firm, The Management Group, for taking high-interest loans out in his name and failing to pay his taxes on time.
Depp, 53, sued the firm in January 2017. The Management Group has since countersued.
Depp's reputation also took a hit after his separation and divorce from ex-wife Amber Heard, who has accused the actor of domestic violence.
Jerry Bruckheimer, a producer behind Depp's latest film, also spoke with People and defended Depp at the Pirates premiere. "He's a fabulous guy, a great artist and he's here," he said, "and he's excited to be here for the premiere."
