What Olivia Munn Really Thinks About Marriage
In 2021, Olivia Munn made headlines after starting a whirlwind romance with John Mulaney. The two reportedly got together in May soon after the "Big Mouth" star announced his divorce and though they've keep details about their relationship private, the couple sent the internet into overdrive in September when Mulaney announced he and Munn were expecting a baby together. "In the spring, I went to Los Angeles, and met and started to date a wonderful woman named Olivia — Olivia Munn," he told Seth Meyers on his late-night talk show. "I'm going to be a dad. We're both really, really happy."
Before the comedian, Munn dated NFL star Aaron Rodgers for three years until their split in April 2017, as well as Bryan Greenberg and Chris Pine, according to Us Weekly. She was also rumored to be dating "Glee" star Matthew Morrison and hockey player Brad Richards in 2011 and 2012, respectively. But, although she has been linked to many famous men, the star never took the next step in any of her relationships — and there's a valid reason why.
Olivia Munn said weddings make her nervous
Olivia Munn once shared her candid thoughts on marriage, telling Variety she's "never have ever been that girl [who dreamed about her wedding]." The actor explained that she's also never been the person who imagined what her engagement ring would look like. "The idea of getting married has always made me a little ... It gives me ... I don't know what that word is for ... I'm like, 'It's hot in here, right?' It's like, 'Really?' ... Yeah, I just feel like to pick one person forever," she said. In fact, Munn has only ever been to "four weddings in my life, maybe five total," she said, and they were all "boring."
It sounds like the star is taking her mother's advice, as she previously told News.com.au, "When I was a kid, my mum would always say to me over and over, 'Never just grow up, marry a man and become his wife. Always make a name for yourself'." Munn added, "So being married, going to weddings, thinking about my wedding gown, and finding a guy to make my life whole is not the same for me. I feel pretty whole as is."
Olivia Munn would reconsider marriage if the right person came along
In 2019, following her split from Aaron Rodgers, Olivia Munn said she'd only consider marriage if she met the right person. She told the "NAKED with Catt Sadler" podcast, "I am so happy in my life right now and I don't think I will ever get married or have children, unless somebody comes around that's so amazing. I already feel like I'm actually in a happy ending." Two years later, the "Newsroom" actor is now expecting her first child.
So, is John Mulaney the man who will change her mind about getting married? It's unclear, as there are rumors the two are not together anymore. According to Us Weekly's sources, the twosome's relationship has been "imperfect from the start," adding that they don't see the two lasting even though they're about to be parents. Still, Munn told Entertainment Tonight she's excited about motherhood and "meeting whoever it is, and bringing a little person into this world."
Only time will tell whether or not marriage is for Munn, but for now, being a mom seems like her main priority.
