Lego Masters Season 3 - Here's What We Can Tell Fans So Far

Hey Master Builders, is it time to get your brick on? If you're truly a master builder, then it's always time! But if you're a fan of watching master builders on the hit Fox series "LEGO Masters," then we're here to find out.

Ever since the finale of Season 2 aired on September 14, fans have been wondering if there will be a Season 3 of the popular reality show, "LEGO Masters." The competition series is based on the UK series of the same name, where teams of two LEGO fans-slash-builders compete to construct incredible creations using LEGO bricks. From tall buildings that can withstand high winds or intense shaking, to huge structures hanging from a single brick or extended off the side of a wall, to monster trucks battling each other for domination, builders are judged on creativity, storytelling, and structural support while showing off truly impressive builds. At stake is not only a "Golden Brick," offering the holders immunity, but the team that makes it to the end of the competition stands to win a cash prize of $100,000, and the coveted title of LEGO Master.

The British series premiered on August 24, 2017, and whittled down 48 pairs of brick-builders to only eight for the competition, finally choosing one winning team after only four episodes. The series was so successful it spawned the American version on Fox, as well as an Australian version. Now, fans want to know whether there will be a season 3 on Fox.

When will LEGO Masters Season 3 air?

Given the popularity of "LEGO Masters" on Fox, fans want to know when they might watch new teams take on building challenges. But given that Season 2 only aired its finale in September, it's a bit too soon to tell. No information about Season 3 has been released yet, and according to TheCinemaholic, the series has neither been renewed nor canceled.

When Season 1 aired in February 2020, it was a hit for the network and became the number-one new reality show on broadcast TV, according to Variety, as well as the top new reality series with a cross-platform average of 9.7 million viewers. It was lauded as a family show, with host and producer Will Arnett saying to Variety, "I can't tell you how rewarding it was to have so many people reach out to me and tell me that they love this show because they watched it with their families." The show was renewed for Season 2 on Veteran's Day because it partnered with a charity called Merging Vets and Players, providing LEGO bricks for veterans to use as a therapeutic device.

However, ratings for Season 2 fell drastically — by 58%, according to TV Series Finale, averaging 1.54 million viewers. Because LEGO is a clear partner in the show, it may be less costly to produce, but the low ratings don't bode well. But who knows — Veteran's Day is around the corner so a Season 3 renewal announcement could be as well.

Who will be in the new LEGO Masters cast?

While it's too soon to know who the new teams will be, given that there isn't an official announcement for Season 3 yet, it seems likely that the current host, Will Arnett, will return for a potential third season. His bona fides as a LEGO fan, the voice of Batman in the "LEGO Movie" franchise, and an all-around funny guy make him an excellent choice to return as the show's host.

Arnett is clearly a fan of the tiny bricks, but he doesn't necessarily have the skill or expertise to judge the teams' designs. He'll likely be joined again by judges and LEGO employees Amy Corbett and Jamie Berard, who know their brick-building stuff. The two often add advice and hints for building techniques to both the teams and the audience. Season 1 also featured several celebrity guests, including Terry Crews and Mayim Bialik, but Season 2 had only a couple, possibly because of pandemic restrictions.

Season 1 of "LEGO Masters" aired from February 5 through April 15, 2020, with 10 episodes in consecutive weeks, and it followed 10 teams of builders. Given the success of its first season, Season 2 came back with 12 teams and ran for an additional two episodes (12 in all). It's possible Season 3 could add a 13th team and episode (13 is a common number of episodes for TV series), but the show could also stick with 12.

LEGO Masters builds and destroys lots of LEGO bricks

"LEGO Masters" has developed a reputation for putting master builders to the test with creative challenges that expand the depths of creativity and working with LEGO bricks. Season 1 had the teams building city blocks, movie genres and storybook stories, and engineering bridges tested under increasing weights, plus a "Star Wars" themed challenge. Season 2's teams built parade floats, monster trucks, puppets, and fashionable, wearable hats, all made from LEGO bricks.

One common thread that ran through many of the challenges in both seasons: destruction. From testing the strength of bridges, buildings, or vehicles against stress, wind, earthquakes, and well, smashing into each other, to intentionally blowing up builds, sometimes filled with slime or glitter, host Will Arnett and the judges took glee in destroying the impressive creations — to the dismay of some LEGO fans watching from home.

The casts of teams are fairly diverse, too. Both seasons featured two teams of women, with Season 2's Michelle and Natalie making it to the semi-finals, along with three teams of brothers: Mark and Steven, twins Caleb and Jacob, and Zack and Wayne. All six brothers were fierce competitors, battling over the top spots and the Golden Brick throughout the 12 weeks. Ultimately, the prize was awarded to Mark and Steven for their final, dual build, which had to include a day look and a nighttime look.
