What's Really Going On With Amber Heard
Though her filmography is rather extensive, Amber Heard was a relatively unknown actress until her engagement to Johnny Depp in 2014. The relationship shot her to the top of the A-List and, of course, into the tabloids. There's been lots of talk about the actress of late, though not much of it is about her work. So what's really going on with Amber Heard?
Heard's relationship with Depp was rocky from the start
In June of 2016, ET Online published two-year-old texts reportedly between Heard and Depp's assistant that reveal Depp's abusive behavior, suggesting trouble between the couple before they were even married. The relationship never got easier. Between Depp's alleged abuse, Australian smuggling charges in 2015 (which were eventually dropped), and constant reports of marital struggles, the two didn't seem too stable. Things came to a head in May of 2016 when Heard attended the Met Gala alone, leaving the public speculating whether a split was on the horizon.
In May 2016, Heard and Depp went through an explosive separation
Heard and Depp's relationship came to an end just as fast as it began. Heard filed for divorce from and a restraining order against Depp after 15 months of marriage. As reported by People, Heard claimed that Depp had "been verbally and physically abusive" throughout the entire relationship, at one point getting so bad that one of Heard's friends, iO Tillett Wright, called the cops to the couple's apartment at Heard's request. "I wondered like so many times before if I should break the code of silence that surrounds celebrities and invite the police into the situation," Wright wrote in a piece for Refinery29. "And in a split second decided that, yes, I was going to."
Heard's allegations against Depp split Hollywood (and the general public)
As word of the couple's split got out, various members of the Hollywood elite took to social media to voice their opinions. Some, like Wright, backed Heard's decision; however others, such as Depp's ex Winona Ryder, were quick to defend Depp and question the truth behind Heard's claims. "He was never, never that way towards me. Never abusive at all towards me." Ryder told TIME. "I have never seen him be violent toward a person before."
The public was also quick to weigh in, leading to various think pieces comparing the backlash against the validity of Heard's allegations to how "regular" women in abusive relationships are treated. Many claimed that Heard fabricated the allegations for financial gain. However, in August 2016, Heard promised to donate any money she received from the divorce to charity. "Money played no role for me personally and never has," she said in a statement.
She had a medical emergency during an awards gala
It seems Heard can't catch a break. In April 2017, TMZ reported that Heard "made an unexpected and sudden exit" from a unite4:humanity awards ceremony, though her exact ailment isn't known. According to E News, Heard's friends Wright and Cara Delevingne accepted an award on Heard's behalf, during which Wright said, "our dear friend Amber unfortunately suffered a bit of an emergency earlier this evening and she had to go," adding that he hopes "that she's okay."
It's not all bad! Heard's now seeing Elon Musk
Despite a whirlwind romance with Depp, Heard didn't take much time before entering a new relationship. In July 2016, just a couple months after her separation, People reported that Heard and tech billionaire Elon Musk were likely dating. Though they've consistently been seen together since then, it appears Heard and Musk waited until April 2017 to make their relationship official, each sharing matching photos on Instagram of themselves at dinner.
She's headed for a bright future
While news surrounding Heard's life has been quite dramatic as of late, her future is promising. As of April 2017, she has a few films in the works and a budding relationship with Musk. Oh, and she's also the most scientifically beautiful woman, according to an ancient Greek beauty ratio known as Phi, as reported by Mirror. Not a bad title to hold.
