Sing On! Season 2 - Here's What We Can Tell Fans So Far

Hosted by the charismatic and lovable Tituss Burgess, "Sing On!" is a new karaoke-style singing competition show on Netflix. Per the show's official description, contestants on "Sing On!" have to be pitch-perfect and sing the right notes to win money. Season 1 captivated music lovers with pulsating up tempos and competitive nature with six non-professional vocalists battling it out to try and out-sing each other on chart topping hits (via The Cinemaholic).

Unlike other reality singing competition shows, "Sing On!" sets itself apart by using technology in the form of a vocal analyzer to detect each contestant's singing pitch. Burgess explains in the official "Sing On!" trailer that the vocal analyzer automatically adds money to the grand prize every time the contestants sing an accurate note, replacing the need for judges. Since there are no judges, contestants actually vote each other out based on their performances.

The first season of "Sing On!" premiered on the streaming service on September 16, 2020 with eight episodes. Each episode has a runtime of 35-40 minutes, but of course, viewers couldn't get enough and are hoping to watch more singing acrobatics. Here's everything we know about a potential upcoming season.

When will Sing On! Season 2 be released?

According to The Cinemaholic, Netflix has not announced a renewal for another season of "Sing On!", but there is also no notice of a cancellation. If fan support for the show is strong enough and the show's ratings are strong, Next Season TV notes that Season 2 may be released in late 2021 or 2022.

While "Sing On!" is marketed as a singing reality competition show, Vanity Fair suggested in its review that it veers more toward an entertainment program than a competition. The appeal, the outlet noted, comes from the karaoke aspect, and fans enjoy having that interactivity aspect by singing along with the contestants. However, Decider thinks that having the vocal analyzer actually detracts from the contestants' singing skills.

It remains to be seen whether these mixed reviews will impact the show's renewal, but Netflix has renewed shows that were badly rated, so there's still hope that "Sing On!" will get another season.

Who will be in the cast of Sing On! Season 2?

Season 1 of "Sing On!" invited six hopeful singers from different backgrounds with unique voices to participate. Since Season 2 is still up in the air, we do not know the identities of the contestants who will be on the show. However, a familiar face we do expect to come back is the show's host, Tituss Burgess.

Burgess stole the show with his high tenor vocals and improvisation skills, so we expect him to be back on the show when Netflix confirms a Season 2. In addition to his stellar hosting abilities, Burgess also has an impressive résumé as a five-time Emmy-nominated actor, and multiple stints on Broadway (via The Cinemaholic).

Though Burgess loves hosting "Sing On!", he doesn't like the activity of singing songs in a small room, telling NPR's "Not My Job" podcast, "I despise karaoke." The reason he hates it is because singing is his job and he doesn't want to do it in his spare time. "I've spent all of my professional life being paid large sum of monies (laughter) to sing. And so ... the thought to go to a club and [sing]. That's just like asking a surgeon, every time you walk by a hospital, are you tempted to go in and, like [do surgery]," he joked.

Fans want another season of Sing On!

Even though there's still no word on a renewal for Season 2 of "Sing On!", it doesn't mean the show has been cancelled. Given the fact that there are endless songs and themes to be explored on the show, it would be disappointing if Netflix pulled the plug on the show, especially since fans have shared how much they enjoyed watching it.

"Sing On on Netflix is my new obsession," tweeted one fan after the show's premiere, while another wanted the streaming service to create an Irish edition of the show to add onto its Spanish and German iterations. "For anyone who has Netflix and speaks Spanish or German or doesn't mind subtitles watch Sing On!! It's such a fun show if you like singing," the user wrote.

Hopefully the executives at Netflix take into consideration the love fans have for the show and renew it for another season. In the meantime, we'll just have to sit back, hone up our singing skills, and wait until we can belt it out with the contestants again.
