The Truth Behind Erika Jayne And Meghan McCain's Friendship

Erika Jayne became a household name thanks to "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," but before all of the gossip, the drama, and legal issues with her estranged husband Tom Girardi — he allegedly stole money from his former clients and put some of that money into Erika's company — she was someone who often rubbed elbows with California's elite. After all, even California governor Gavin Newsom went on the record to admit that he even has a connection to Erika, seeing how her husband used to be one of his biggest financial donors. When asked about it by Andy Cohen on "Watch What Happens Live," Newsom said, "It's an indirect tie. It's because her husband is one of the major donors in California politics," while also adding, "He has been extraordinarily generous to me."

Well, it seems like Erika has another connection to big names in politics. In fact, in October 2020, the "RHOBH" star defended Meghan McCain — even referring to Meghan as her "sister" — when the "View" co-host announced her departure from the show. Here's what you need to know about their friendship.

Meghan McCain has Erika Jayne's back

It might seem like an odd pairing, but Meghan McCain and Erika Jayne are close friends. In addition to Erika's defense of Meghan in late 2020, in early February 2021, Meghan took to her Instagram stories, per The Blast, to reveal that she takes fashion inspiration from her friend — posting a new monogrammed bag that she said she copied from Erika. Meghan also posted a picture of her and Erika with mutual friends in September — and it was now her turn to defend her friend. Seemingly referring to the criticism Erika was facing in light of her and Tom Girardi's legal woes, Meghan captioned the picture, "Team Erika. We love you. If you don't have something nice to say, don't bother commenting. No one is interested."

But it's what Meghan said directly about the Erika's legal and financial drama that confirmed to everyone that they are close to achieving BFF level. While speaking to Andy Cohen on "Watch What Happens Live," Meghan confirmed that she believes Erika, who has denied the conspiracies about her divorce filings and how Erika supposedly did it just to hide the couple's assets. "I feel bad for her. I have known, I don't know, but I know wealthy women who don't know anything about their finances," Meghan said, adding, "I believe she has a good heart. I believe that she will be proven innocent."

But that's not the only thing Meghan revealed about her friendship with the most talked-about housewife from Beverly Hills.

Meghan McCain is one of the few people Erika Jayne can count on right now

Meghan McCain also revealed on "Watch What Happens Live" that she and Erika Jayne "became much closer during [the] COVID [pandemic]." While Meghan didn't specify how they became friends in the first place, she made it clear that they are both supportive of one another on a personal level.

"I'm like legitimately good friends with her," the former TV host gushed. "It's a little weird. I remember specifically when I was coming back from my first doctor's appointment after I gave birth, her calling me and like having a whole conversation about how stuff was going down in her life."

Seeing how Erika recently said that she feels all alone in her battles — per Today, she lamented, "I'm just here by myself, and what's being said is just mean" — it's good to hear that at least one person has got her back. Meghan is clearly that friend Erika needs the most in her life right now.
