How Many Movies Did John Travolta And Kelly Preston Star In Together?
John Travolta and Kelly Preston were not one of those couples that was a mainstay in the headlines. Their relationship was quiet and low-key, but the love they had for each other was something poets could write sonnets about. Their love story spanned 29 years, but it all ended when Preston passed away in 2020 after battling breast cancer for two years.
Travolta and Preston were lucky enough to have worked together multiple times on various films. In fact, their love story started on set, too. In 1989, back when Preston was still married to Kevin Gage, she met her would-be husband Travolta at a screen test for the film "The Experts." Travolta would often say that it was love at first sight, to which Preston said, "Kinda... Well, I was not that happily married, let's put it that way," she told host Andy Cohen on "Watch What Happens Live!" "I was really with the wrong person."
Preston briefly dated George Clooney and Charlie Sheen after calling it quits with Gage. Then, in 1991, she reconnected with Travolta, and the rest, as they say, is history. In their almost three decades of blissful marriage, the two had the chance to work alongside each other in a handful of movies.
John Travolta and Kelly Preston starred in multiple films together
Not all Hollywood couples are fortunate enough to get the unique opportunity to work with one another on projects, but John Travolta and Kelly Preston got the chance to star together in not just one, but five different movies.
Their first project was "The Experts," the very same film that brought them together. Travolta was one of the leads (alongside Arye Gross) and Preston served as his love interest in the movie. They didn't get to work together again until they were officially married, and their first project as husband and wife came with "Battlefield Earth," which also happened to be a film Travolta worked hard to bring to fruition. It was based on the novel of the same name by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, and given how Travolta is a staunch Scientologist, he was one of the primary supporters of the movie.
Travolta and Preston got to work together three more times after that. They played exes turned lovers in the 2009 comedy flick "Old Dogs," and in the 2010 action film "From Paris With Love," Preston and daughter, Ella, starred as extras. The last movie the couple starred in together was "Gotti," a biopic in which they played husband and wife. Travolta played mob boss John Gotti, and Preston played his wife, Victoria.
John Travolta and Kelly Preston loved being each other's co-stars
For some people, working with their significant other may be awkward, but John Travolta and Kelly Preston had nothing but praise for one another. Instead of finding it odd to play a couple on-screen, they used their real-life chemistry to make the characters they played more believable.
"We have the friendship and we have the rapport, so you can see the intimacy," Preston told Entertainment Tonight during a promotional interview for "Gotti." Travolta noted they had a great time on set and that working together on a project added a unique layer to their existing relationship. "For us to be in a movie where we're playing other people is so much fun, and that's what we kind of live for — to have that creative experience together," he said.
There's another perk to working together as a couple, too: They got to bring their family along. Per Entertainment Tonight, Travolta and Preston turned filming into a family activity when they brought their two kids with them on set. How fun!
