Does Kate Middleton Borrow This Fashion Tip From The Queen?
In-laws have gotten a bad rap over the years, thanks in no small part to lazy '90s sitcom jokes. But look a little closer and you'll find they usually hold a treasure trove of wisdom: from cooking tips and juicy family secrets to the magic formula for finally getting your spouse to pick up their dirty socks, taking an in-law's advice is sometimes very worthwhile. Just look at Kate Middleton, who, according to Marie Claire, has apparently been nicking a few style tips from perhaps the world's most famous granny-in-law: The Queen.
The Duchess of Cambridge hardly needs any help in the style department. Kate regularly makes headlines for her chic outfits, from casual jeans to glamorous evening gowns. She's also been praised for her eco-friendly approach to fashion, regularly re-wearing items from her closet instead of splurging on new looks. Still, there is at least one fashion tip that Kate has pinched from the queen. Can we borrow it too?
How Kate Middleton's look is inspired by The Queen
While your grandmother-in-law might be the last person you turn to for fashion advice, chances are that people aren't turning up in scores to get a glimpse of either of you. Kate Middleton and Queen Elizabeth II, however, regularly make public appearances, often with large crowds present. According to the 2016 documentary, "Our Queen at 90" (via People), folks get so excited to see the royals that they sometimes faint! So, how do you make sure your fans can spot you among a throng of well-wishers? By dressing in bright colors!
Bold, eye-catching ensembles have long been a staple of the queen's wardrobe, with her reportedly saying to a biographer (via Town and Country): "I can never wear beige because nobody will know who I am." Her daughter-in-law, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, pointed out in the documentary: "She needs to stand out for people to be able to say 'I saw the Queen.'... someone wants to be able to say they saw a bit of the Queen's hat as she went past." Kate seems to have mirrored this tactic, with Town and Country noting her vivid array of colors over the years.
And although not everyone is a fan of the pair's bright and beautiful looks, many more think they both look royally good!
