The Truth About Judy Greer's Husband
"Ant-Man and the Wasp" star Judy Greer knows all about playing the best friend. According to Closer Weekly, even her husband, Dean E. Johnsen, tells her, "You're not America's Sweetheart — you're America's Best Friend!" The actor is well-known for playing the supporting role in rom-coms such as "27 Dresses" and "The Wedding Planner," but her characters are more than a simple rom-com trope. "I may have played the best friend a lot of times, but I wasn't always the same character," she told CBS News. "Sometimes I was a double-crosser, b****y, cranky, ditzy — it was nice because I wasn't always playing the same type so they all felt really different."
When she isn't hitting up the big screen, Greer is also the voice behind Cheryl Tunt on FX's "Archer." Her vocal prowess is especially potent, to the point that the voice role might be her most recognizable yet. "Unfortunately, the pandemic really showed me how much people recognize me from my voice, because I'm always wearing a mask, so people can't really see my face," she told Backstage. "And then they hear me talk and they're like, 'Oh, my God, are you Judy Greer from 'Archer?' and I'm like, 'No way!'"
Greer is also the leading lady in her husband's life. Let's take a look at the reason Greer once declared on Instagram, "i got so lucky, still can't believe it." As for Johnsen, he really pulled out all the stops.
Judy Greer and Dean E. Johnsen's whirlwind romance
If Judy Greer's all about playing the best friend, then Dean E. Johnsen's all about making performers shine. Bustle reports he has been one of the producers on "Real Time with Bill Maher" since 2006. Unlike most Hollywood meet-cutes, Greer and Johnsen did not succumb to love-at-first-sight. The two met in 2010, per Closer Weekly, after being set up on a blind date by a friend. "We started talking on the phone," she revealed. "I didn't know what he looked like until I opened my door! He was tall and handsome. I was excited, but it wasn't love at first sight — and he'll say the same thing!" Something obviously felt right, because they tied the knot a year later, per E! News. She sported a sapphire and gold engagement ring because she told Johnsen that she didn't want a diamond. Greer dished, "Dean said he picked this one because it reminded him of my eyes."
However, a decade later, and it seems Johnsen isn't as perceptive as he used to be. Greer told Forbes, "I love my husband, but he's a boy so he usually doesn't notice anything. I've dyed my hair four different colors and he hasn't noticed it." So why did she marry Johnsen? Greer told Closer Weekly, "I feel like no one told me, 'Just date a guy who's nice to you.' We really need to tell each other that, 'cause nice goes a long way!"
Married couple Dean E. Johnsen and Judy Greer lived apart for seven years
Judy Greer and Dean E. Johnsen do marriage on their own terms. Just because millions of other marrieds lived together and had children together, it did not mean that was right for them. It took 7 years of marriage before Greer and Johnsen finally moved in together. Greer plainly told People, "Our married life is a little weird." But even though they maintained separate households, "We spent our nights together back and forth."
Johnsen appears to be a family man because, according to Bustle, he had two children from a previous marriage. He wanted to remain close to his kids even after marrying Greer and opted to stay close by. Greer's house was 40 miles from where he lived, but they would alternate where they spent their evenings. After his youngest turned 18, they decided to finally set up a combined household. Greer opened up to Closer Weekly, divulging, "We decided to renovate this house to move into together. I call it my Barbie Dream House. Dean said, 'Do whatever you want, just don't paint it pink!'" Talk about carte blanche!
As for making biological children of their own, don't count on it. Greer explained, "I did consider it for a while, but I didn't try. I love my stepkids so much, I can't stand it. I wanted to give my attention to them." Now that's #modernfamily goals.
