The Truth About Ben Platt And Noah Galvin's Relationship

In case you've been out of the loop, there's a new couple in town — Ben Platt and Noah Galvin. Yes, they're quite literally a match made in heaven, or rather, a Broadway show. Platt originated the role of "Dear Evan Hansen" in 2016, and Noah took over the year after. The two weren't an item until 2020, and if it weren't for the pandemic, their relationship wouldn't have probably turned into romance (more on that later).

Funnily enough, they're not the first Evan Hansens to date each other, either. Taylor Trensch and Ben Levi Ross, two actors who also played Evan Hansen in 2018 and 2019, have been in a relationship since 2017. "I know, it's so g**d*mn incestuous," Galvin said of this coincidence during an appearance on the "Little Known Facts With Ilana Levine" podcast (via People). "But it makes sense, like, we all went through the war together. We all feel very connected."

Platt and Galvin made their red carpet debut at the LA premiere of "Dear Evan Hansen." The couple was all smiles, and it appeared as though they'd been together for ages. So what's the deal with these two Evan Hansens? And what keeps their relationship going?

Ben Platt and Noah Galvin "skated" about dating each other for years

They say that the best foundation of any romantic relationship is friendship, and that's what Ben Platt and Noah Galvin had for years. Before becoming an item in 2020, they had been friends for about five years, during which they revealed to have "skated" around dating for quite a while. In an appearance on "The Kelly Clarkson Show," Platt revealed that he didn't even realize that he harbored romantic feelings for Galvin until half a decade into their friendship.

"We've been together a year-and-a-half now," he shared. "We were friends for like five years and right before the pandemic, we finally decided to really give it a shot. We kind of skated around it for a long time." Platt said that the pandemic was a catalyst to their romance, bringing things "zero to 60." The two lived together in Platt's childhood home at the time, and that's when things started to change. "It ended up being a beautiful time," he said.

Clarkson joked about their love story being romantic enough to be a plot of a movie, but according to Platt, Galvin probably has a different version of their romance. "He won't say it was all of the sudden because I was pretty dumb about it," he quipped. "I didn't see the light for a long time and then I realize, you know, that he was the guy."

Ben Platt says Noah Galvin keeps him grounded

Ben Platt and Noah Gavin like to keep their relationship on the down-low. While they occasionally post cute photos of them together on social media, they tend to keep things low-key. Then again, they're very vocal about their love for one another.

In an interview with Out, Platt shared how he found "a partner that I really love, Noah Galvin, my boyfriend." He said that Galvin greatly contributed to helping him get over the "fear and apprehension" he felt about reprising the Evan Hansen role for the cinematic adaptation of "Dear Evan Hansen". Galvin "has a really unique ability to help me to...be present where I am and to make the life that's happening day to day too wonderful to not want to be on the ground for it," he shared.

Ultimately, though, Platt and Galvin love each other not just as romantic partners, but as people, too. "I think with Noah, it's like — separate from the romantic, physical aspects of the relationship — he's just the person I want to be around the most," Platt shared with Esquire. "He's the person who makes me laugh the most, who I want to download things with when they happen."
