The Truth About Donald Trump And Joan Collins
English actor, author, and columnist Joan Collins has found much success after her acting career. The multi-award-winning author has written a variety of lifestyle books and memoirs, sold over 40 million copies, and her works have been translated into 30 languages, per The Guardian. The opinionated "Dynasty" star has also been vocal about her life's experiences in her works and has not shied away from calling out people for their past behaviors and lifestyle.
Collins has touted several famous names in her new memoir titled "My Unapologetic Diaries," including the Kardashians and the Sussexes. The Daily Mail obtained extracts of the memoir, where Collins has unapologetically commented on her friends in the showbiz business. She has also had things to say about Donald Trump, who has a way of finding himself surrounded by controversies. But this memoir is not the first time that Collins has mentioned Trump — the two have crossed paths in the past in strange ways.
Read on to find out the truth about Trump and Collins, and what she thinks of the former U.S. President.
Joan Collins called out 'clown' Donald Trump
Turns out, Joan Collins found some inspiration in Donald Trump during "Dynasty" days — so much so that she decided to base her character of Alexis Carrington on him. The two met through Trump's ex-wife, Ivana Trump, and Collins found his attitude towards business interesting. "I based Alexis on Donald Trump — Alexis is very tough in business," she said in a 2016 interview with Saga magazine (via Daily Record). "I met Donald around that time. Ivana was a very good friend of mine."
But that's not the only connection Trump has with "Dynasty" — the business magnate wanted more to do with the plot. "Donald Trump, that ungallant clown, has written something horrible about me in the New York Post. He said the story that he wanted to be one of Alexis's lovers in Dynasty is a lie," she writes in her memoir (via Mail Online). "I know it's perfectly true because [producer] Gary Pudney told me. But Trump said, 'The last thing I would want to do in real life or television is to be your lover.' What a gentleman!"
However, despite calling him a clown and liar, the Golden Globe winner has at least hinted at support for Trump in the past. "We need a really strong leader of the free world, who's going to crack down on terrorism — however that's done," she revealed in the interview. "I have certain ideas but I'm not going to talk about them because they'd be politically incorrect."
Donald Trump wanted Joan Collins to move into Trump Tower
When Joan Collins appeared on "The Jonathan Ross Show" in 2017, she had a bit to talk about Donald Trump. She revealed on the show that he tried to convince her and her husband to buy one of his apartments in his Manhattan skyscraper. Collins didn't like the idea and said that Trump was "very interested" in having them make the move.
"We saw him when Percy and I were buying an apartment in New York a few years ago. He said that he wanted us to buy an apartment at the Trump Tower, his place. He was very interested in us doing it," she revealed on the show (via Express). Collins, however, was glad that she decided against moving into Trump Tower — primarily because of how inaccessible the building was. "Thank God we didn't, you know what the Trump Tower is like now. You have to show your passport, you have to go through security to get into that building."
Even though Collins doesn't like Trump's architecture, she is fond of his personality. Their differences aside, could Trump be secretly vouching for her support in the 2024 presidential race?
