The Truth About Kelsey Grammer's Relationship With His Kids
If you're going to do something, you might as well do it properly. Just look at Kelsey Grammer: when it came to portraying Dr. Frasier Crane, he didn't just call it a day and look for new parts when "Cheers" ended. Instead, he parlayed the iconic role into the standalone sitcom "Frasier", eventually playing the sophisticated psychiatrist for over twenty years in total. He even applied this all-or-nothing mindset to starting a family. While most people stop at one or two kids, Grammer went on to father a mind-boggling seven!
Yep, you read that number correctly. In fairness, he did take his time on the project: he fathered his eldest daughter, "Greek" actor Spencer, in 1982 with his first wife, Doreen Alderman, and his most recent, Auden, in 2016 with his present wife, Kayte Walsh. In between came second daughter, Greer, with then-girlfriend Barrie Buckner, Mason and Jude with "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Camille Grammer, and two more with Walsh: a girl named Faith and a boy called Gabriel (via Closer). If that list is making your head spin, think how Grammer must feel!
Does the "Back to You" actor get along with every member of his bountiful brood? And what's his secret to remembering all those birthdays? Read on to find out more.
Kelsey Grammer didn't always have a healthy relationship with his kids
While it might seem like Kelsey Grammer is confusing his role on "Frasier" for "Full House", by all accounts the actor is delighted with his large family. In a 2018 interview with Closer, he credits having three small children in the house for keeping him young, describing it as "fantastic — the energy is magnificent."
But things weren't always that simple. Mason, his daughter with Camille Grammer, once told GenLux that her parents' messy divorce was "the hardest time of my life," adding that "my dad wasn't around, so I didn't see him much, and my mom had such a hard time." Blended families dynamics can be tricky to navigate even in the best of circumstances, and Grammer confessed that "your kids get a little lost in the shuffle, and you end up regretting it."
Thankfully, Mason has mended fences with her father, stating that she "can talk to him about everything now." She confessed that "He becomes a better dad after every child." In fact, while the actor hasn't offered any tips on how to remember everyone's birthday, he generally appears to get along well with all of his kids: Greer, his second oldest daughter, even posted a touching Instagram tribute earlier this year on Father's Day, writing that she's "Forever proud to be your daughter."
So, with the current Grammer brood getting along swimmingly, are there plans to expand the family even further, or is seven the lucky number? Keep reading to find out!
Will Kelsey Grammer have more kids in the future?
Since fatherhood and Kelsey Grammer seem to go together even better than tossed salad and scrambled eggs, you'd think that he and wife Kayte Walsh would be rushing to add to their family. That was certainly the case after their first two kids were born, as Grammer gushed to People shortly after Gabriel's birth: "As soon as [he] came out, Kayte and I were going, 'Yeah, let's do another one." True to their word, they welcomed baby Auden in 2016.
That being said, his eldest daughter Spencer, known for voicing Summer on "Rick and Morty", started a family of her own when she welcomed son Emmett Emmanual Hesketh in 2011. So, perhaps Grammer will be content with the role of grandfather for now?
The answer would be yes for most people, but we weren't kidding about Grammer's commitment to a role. 17 years after he last played the iconic character, a new "Frasier" revival is in the works — so let's not rule out a new baby Grammer guest appearance just yet!
