Here's Where You've Seen Kai Holman From NCIS: Hawaii Before
CBS' "NCIS" franchise is one of the biggest successes in television. The original series, which was a spinoff from "JAG," premiered in 2003 and introduced us to a beloved team of special agents from the Naval Crime Investigative Service, per IMDb.
The series' success helped greenlight multiple spinoffs, including 2006's "NCIS: Los Angeles" and 2014's "NCIS: New Orleans." In 2021, CBS decided to add another spinoff in the tropics with "NCIS: Hawaii," starring Vanessa Lachey as Agent Jane Tennant, TV Line reported. The show premiered on September 20.
As the show's name suggests, "NCIS: Hawaii" follows the journeys of Hawaii's own NCIS special agents as they work to solve cases together and become intertwined in personal relationships with each other. Besides Lachey being the most recognized cast member on the show, the actor who plays Agent Kai Holman also looks familiar. Keep scrolling to find out where you might have seen him before.
NCIS: Hawaii actor Alex Tarrant is a new star with a lot of experience
Viewers who tuned in to the first episode of "NCIS: Hawaii” may not realize that Alex Tarrant, who plays Agent Kai Holman, is a big up-and-comer. Getting his first acting credit in 2014, per IMDb, Tarrant is also set to star in Amazon Prime Studios' upcoming "The Lord of the Rings" series. However, Tarrant has plenty of experience to warrant his ascent into TV stardom.
Tarrant's first significant television role was Maui Vaipiti in the BBC's supernatural murder drama "Tatau," which saw him work with industry heavyweights like Temuera Morrison. The show took place in Cook Islands, and Tarrant admitted the experience of working with director Wayne Yip was not what he expected. In a 2017 interview with Stuff, Tarrant said that Yip kept ignoring him during filming because he wanted him to experience the methodology of behaving like his character — a son who needed to impress his father.
"He was telling me a story about how whenever we want a certain thing out of our actors, from a director's perspective, we tend to sometimes treat them as though they are the character," Tarrant said, admitting the tactic didn't work for him. "For me as an actor, if that was the tactic I think it was an interesting tactic but I don't think it worked that well for me. I'm very much someone who, if someone gives a certain amount, I give a certain amount back."
Alex Tarrant is slowly getting used to fame
After the success of "Tatau," Alex Tarrant went on to become a recurring character on Australian-New Zealand-based series "800 Words" in 2015. He played Ike, a love interest for Melina Vidler's character Shay, for three seasons, per IMDb. The show turned Tarrant into a heartthrob in Australia and New Zealand, but he found the swooning from viewers to be a bit embarrassing.
"I'm going red just thinking about it," Tarrant told the New Zealand Herald in 2015. "After every Tuesday night [when the show screens in Australia] I wake up on Wednesday morning with around 50 new Instagram followers. I'm pretty chuffed that people want to get to know me."
With viewers in the Stateside now tuning into "NCIS: Hawaii," Tarrant should prepare for his Instagram follower count to increase exponentially. After all, with numerous projects down the pipeline, he's going to be a familiar face to audiences for years to come.
