Who Is Donald Glover's Partner, Michelle White?
Donald Glover is a multi-hyphenate talent, who has made his imprint on the entertainment industry in acting, writing, directing, rapping, singing, and even more. His first big break came when he was hired by Tina Fey as a staff writer on the sitcom "30 Rock," where Fey recognized that Glover was destined for greater things. "But with Donald the answer was clearly, 'Yep. You're wasting valuable time here. Go get famous,'" she recalled to Billboard in 2016.
Perhaps most well-known for his award-winning work as the creator and star of "Atlanta," Glover also enjoys a successful musical career as Childish Gambino. Growing up, the performer's father had an impact on his musical tastes. Speaking about his funk-inspired project "Awaken, My Love!", Glover told Billboard that it was his father who introduced him to the genre. In 2018, while performing songs off that album at a concert, Glover revealed to the crowd that his dad had recently died. "I lost my father a couple weeks ago," he said (via Yahoo!). "And I wanted to play him some of the new songs ... But he didn't wanna hear 'em, 'cause he was like, 'I know they'll be great,'" Glover added before continuing his performance.
Family has always been important to Glover, and once he had children of his own, he pontificated on parenthood. "A child is information. You're programming this thing," he told Billboard. Glover has had all his children with his partner, Michelle White. Keep reading to find out more about her.
Donald Glover publicly thanks Michelle White
In 2016, Donald Glover and his partner Michelle White welcomed their first baby together. The actor is notoriously private about his personal life, and at the time White was described as "his unidentified partner," per Us Weekly. More information was revealed about her by the time the couple were ready to welcome their second child.
While accepting his Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor for his work on "Atlanta" in 2017, Glover gushed over White. "I want to thank Michelle, my partner, you love me even how crazy I get," he said (via Us Weekly). Glover also used the opportunity to announce their second child was on the way. "I want to thank my unborn son, we're listening to Stevie [Wonder] tonight." When Glover received more hardware for "Atlanta" at the Golden Globes, he once again thanked his supportive partner. "I really want to say thank you to my son and the mother of my son for making me believe in people again and things being possible," the actor said, per Hollywood Life.
Glover has somehow managed a successful career in acting, directing, and music, plus he juggles that while being a father. According to the "Solo: A Star Wars Story" star, it is White who does the heavy lifting at home. "My partner, she does all the hard stuff to be honest," Glover told Us Weekly in 2018 when asked about parenthood. "I haven't really had to change anything," he added. Donald Glover and Michelle White welcomed a third child during quarantine
In addition to working on a seemingly endless cavalcade of creative projects, Donald Glover also works at keeping his personal life private. Glover and Michelle White had their third child in 2020, but the performer did not make the news public until the subject came up during an interview with GQ.
"I had [a kid] during the coronavirus," Glover said. He recalled how surreal it was to experience the joy of welcoming a new child while the country was in turmoil. "I was in the hospital bed. My son had just been born, like, an hour before, and I was watching the George Floyd video," Glover said. "It was such an intense, weird moment." The actor revealed that he named his newborn after his deceased father. Although there were no concrete plans, Glover hinted that the couple may try to have another child in the future — or possibly adopt — in order to add a girl into the mix with their three boys.
Although Glover and White have a family together, they do not plan on tying the knot. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2017, the former "Community" star shot down the prospect of ever getting married. "It doesn't serve the purpose that I would want it to serve," he told the outlet.
