Why Evan Peters Isn't A Fan Of Social Media
After highly-publicized relationships with Emma Roberts and Halsey, Evan Peters has proven what we all know; that he is quite the catch. And in order to be a catch, one must arguably remain elusive in the line of pursuit — and not only is this evident in his personal life but his cyber life as well. The "American Horror Story" star, who quickly became a fan-favorite on the series through his dynamic performances and unmatched charisma, remains a (no pun intended) ghost on social media today — and the reason why may shock you.
But before we get into that, it's important to take note of who comprises the majority of Peters' fan base; arguably, well, teenage girls. And as is with millennials, zoomers, and those firmly behind Peters, a social media presence is almost imperative to thriving in the modern world — though he probably disagrees. While many of Peters' fans faithfully clamor for his return to the internet, the actor has made it abundantly clear he has no interest in coming back to the hellscape that is social media.
So why exactly is Evan Peters not a fan of social media? Read on to find out!
Evan Peters has no idea what he's doing
If you're trying to tag Evan Peters in a tweet or an Instagram post, you're going to have a bad time. We say that because the "American Horror Story" fan-favorite has completely vanished from social media, all without saying a word. The actor was just 24 years old when "American Horror Story" hit the scene in 2011, around the same time social media truly began exploding — so you would think a person that age would be going gangbusters for the cyber revolution, right? Wrong.
In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Peters lamented the use of Instagram and noted that understanding the platform was never his forte. "I never really understood it; I still don't get it. And I'm not very good at it," Peters revealed to the outlet in 2015. "I just chalk it up to not being good at it," he continued. Furthermore, Peters offered more insight into his social media habits during a 2018 speech at Iowa State University.
"I don't really look at social media," Peters prefaced, adding, "I don't ever look at Instagram and Emma's [Roberts] like, 'Did you like my post?' and I'm like, 'I didn't see it...' I don't do it, I avoid it at all costs, so there's that." Peters also mentioned that he hates "the breaking news alerts" as it interferes with his workflow and ability to identify with the character he's currently playing at that moment.
A costly social media faux-pas soured the experience too
Though Evan Peters has been vocal about his disdain for social media, that doesn't mean he's been a ghost forever. The "American Horror Story" veteran previously managed his own Instagram and Twitter accounts, though a crucial faux-pas on the latter platform perhaps spelled doom for the rest of his social media career. It all went down in 2020 at the height of the George Floyd protests when Peters mistakenly retweeted quite possibly the worst thing you could've shared.
Sharing a video of looters getting chased by police, Peters retweeted the video with the caption (written by another user) that said "I can watch these piece of s*** looters get tackled all day" (per Us Weekly). Following a sea of backlash from the Twitterverse, Peters — who is an absolute Luddite when it comes to social media — immediately took down the retweet and issued an apology. "I don't condone the guy watching the news at all in the video which I have deleted. I unknowingly retweeted it. I'm deeply upset it got on my newsfeed," said the actor in a now-deleted tweet (via Us Weekly). "I sincerely apologize if anyone was offended. I support black lives matter wholeheartedly," he continued, sharing a black square in support of Blackout Tuesday afterward.
