What We Know About Jason Derulo's Split From Jena Frumes After The Birth Of Their Son

Jason Derulo began dating Jena Frumes in March 2020, just in time to spend the coronavirus lockdown together, according to Sportskeeda. While Derulo is famous around the world for his music and performances, fans were curious about his new girlfriend. Famous in her own right, Frumes is a model and actor. She is most well known for starring in Nick Cannon's sketch comedy show, "Wild 'n Out," for two years. Prior to meeting Derulo, she was also recognized as the former girlfriend of Manchester United player, Jesse Lingard, as well as NFL player Antonio Brown.

Fans fell in love with the couple throughout quarantine as they took to social media app TikTok to post regular videos. The "Swalla" singer spoke to People in August 2020 about his TikTok experience. "I dived headfirst into TikTok," he said. The singer further explained that having so much extra time on his hands led to things on TikTok getting a little crazy. Some of his most popular videos involve him cooking wacky meals, such as cotton candy pizza. Derulo also told People that Frumes helped out with the videos and that it was really fun to make them with her.

It seemed that things were going really well for the couple, especially after they welcomed their son, Jason King, into the world in May. Jason Derulo shocked his fans when he took to Twitter on September 23 to announce that he and his girlfriend, Jena Frumes, had decided to split up. In the tweet, the singer wrote, "Jena and I have decided to part ways. She is an amazing mother but we feel being apart at this time will allow us to be the best versions of ourselves and the best parents we could be. Pls respect our privacy in this time." 

Derulo's followers expressed a wide range of emotions in their responses to his tweet, including sadness, anger, and sympathy. One Twitter user thought the "Talk Dirty" artist was joking and responded, "Why on earth would Jason prank about something this serious? Really?!" Others begged fellow social media users to respect Derulo and Frumes' decision and reminded others that it was no one else's business. One such fan penned, "So sorry to hear this Jason. But you have to do what feels right for you, and if this is it, then you don't have to explain to ANYONE x."

The breakup came one day after Derulo and Frumes celebrated their shared birthday in Aspen, Colorado, giving all appearances that they were still quite happily together. Frumes even took to Instagram to wish her beau a happy birthday and express her love for him, which she has since deleted, per People. "You truly make me whole and I'm so grateful for the love we share," she wrote.

One of the reasons that Jason Derulo's announcement that he and Jena Frumes were splitting up came as such a surprise is because the two had welcomed their son, Jason King, not even five months prior. The former couple shared their happy news on social media and continued to post updates and photos of their little boy on the web. When baby Jason was born, Frumes took to Instagram to announce his birth to her 4.6 million followers. Her post read, "... Life now has so much more meaning & I am so grateful. I'm ... in love with this little boy he's everything I never knew I needed." 

According to People, Frumes added a shout out to her then-boyfriend at the end of her message, writing, "I love you forever @jasonderulo," but this has since been deleted. Derulo also posted about his son's birth on Instagram, leaving a special message for the mother of his child. "He's so lucky to have such a strong caring hero of a mother," he wrote. 

A couple months after little Jason was born, Derulo spoke to Showbiz Cheatsheet about the experience of becoming a father. "It's incredible just waking up to that bundle of joy, man ... it's like unlike any other love that you've ever had." It seems that despite the joy that Jason has brought into his parents' lives, their relationship as a couple just wasn't meant to be.
