What Are The Terms Of Michael Strahan's Contract With ABC News?
There's no doubt that Michael Strahan can consider himself a successful (and, in turn, seriously rich) person. After a stint as a professional football player with the NFL, Strahan moved on to a life as a television personality. Unsurprisingly, his path and where it has taken him have inspired others. Fortunately for those who look up to the defensive end-turned-host, he's willing to share some advice.
"When any athlete tells me they want to have my career, I say, 'Focus on what you do now. Everything else will be a branch off that main body of work. Then find something else you're passionate about and willing to work for as hard as you do with sports,'" Strahan told Harvard Business Review in 2017. He went on to say that he happens to "have a passion for real estate and construction," noting, "If I weren't on TV, that's what I would do."
Although Strahan might have considered diving into real estate and construction at one time (or may in the future), right now he is on TV. In fact, he's signed a contract with ABC News that will keep him right where he is. Read on to find out more!
Michael Strahan's GMA contract might be for longer than you'd expect
If you like to watch Michael Strahan on "Good Morning America," then you'll surely be thrilled to find out that on September 22, Variety reported that he had signed a contract with ABC News to stay with the popular morning show. That means that along with his fellow "GMA" hosts, Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos, Strahan will be sticking around as a co-anchor.
While the amount that Strahan will be paid hasn't been made public (yet?) and neither ABC News nor the star himself has commented on the fact that a new deal was inked, Variety did note that the network managed to lock down the host for four more years. Managing to get Strahan to agree to four additional years is an arguably impressive feat on the part of the network. While that might not seem like the longest amount of time, it's practically an eternity when it comes to the entertainment industry, and Strahan is clearly still at the top of his game. That likely means that he'll be making a pretty decent salary and was possibly offered some amazing perks.
Granted, Strahan may just want to make sure his job is secure considering the bumpy road he faced in the past.
Michael Strahan's move to GMA wasn't a choice
After Michael Strahan's time as a professional football player but before he started his job at "Good Morning America," fans will remember that he joined Kelly Ripa for "Live!" However, after four years as the show's co-host — and amid rumors of problems between Strahan and Ripa, according to the Daily Mail — he left "Live!" behind to make the move to "GMA" in 2016.
However, while opening up about what had really happened to The New York Times Magazine in January 2020, Strahan attempted to clear a few things up. While he acknowledged that there were "certain things that were going on behind the scenes," he also explained, "I didn't wake up and say, 'I want a job at 'GMA.' I was asked to do it by the people who run the network. It was really not a choice. It was a request. But it was treated as if I was the guy who walked in and said, 'I'm leaving.'"
Strahan went on to say that when it comes to that aspect of his departure from "Live!," it was "totally misconstrued" and "mishandled in every way." Saying that some of those who were responsible for what happened "have all apologized," he also noted that "a lot of the damage had already been done." Despite that, he noted, "For me, it was like: Move on. Success is the best thing. Just keep on moving." It looks like that's exactly what he's doing.
