I Am Jazz Season 7 Release Date, Cast, And More Information
Reality TV gets a bad rap, but the truth is that some of it can be downright heartwarming — like TLC's "I Am Jazz," which follows the life of Jazz Jennings, a trans teenager and ardent activist. After the sixth season wrapped up in March of 2020, the show took a two-year filming break, per Variety. But the good news is that the show has been officially renewed for Season 7!
Jazz went through a lot of emotional ups and downs in Season 6 of "I Am Jazz," especially when it came to her decision about whether to attend Harvard University or Pomona College after graduating high school. In the season finale, Jazz's parents Greg and Jeannette decided to send their daughter on a "spiritual," mental health retreat to help her deal with her recent anxiety and depression before she went off to school, per Cheat Sheet.
Now, two years and one pandemic later, Jazz is back on TLC. Here's what we know about the upcoming season.
'I Am Jazz' Season 7 is coming sooner than you think
We're very excited to let you know that we actually know exactly when "I Am Jazz" Season 7 is premiering. According to Variety, the show was renewed in early 2021, and filming began in the summer of that year. "Alongside viewers and fans, we have watched Jazz grow into a beautiful young woman and champion for transgender rights all over the world," Howard Lee, president of TLC Streaming and Network Originals, told the outlet. "Her advocacy and impact have made a significant mark in history, and we are honored to continue following her story in the next chapter of her life."
On Instagram, Jazz Jennings herself wrote, "I'm so excited to let you know that 'I am Jazz' season 7 will be airing on November 30th on [TLC]. My family and I can't wait to continue sharing our story with you all."
After spending most of her teen years in front of the camera, Jazz said in an interview with Variety that she needed the two-year break from filming the show. "I needed that break for my mental health and wellness, honestly... But I have had that time to really use self-care to boost myself up and evolve and grow as a person. I still have so much more to go, but I just feel like I'm moving in the right direction."
The cast of 'I Am Jazz' Season 7
We know, of course, that Jazz Jennings and her parents will be returning for the seventh season of "I Am Jazz," but who else will be a part of the cast? Will we get updates on some of Jazz's friends that we've all come to know and love, like Noelle? According to the official synopsis for Season 7, via The Futon Critic, we can expect to see some returning faces and some new ones.
We can assure you that in addition to seeing Jazz get ready for her first year at Harvard, we'll catch up with her siblings. According to the description, her older brother Sander "has found his passion in being a vocal ally for the LGBTQ+ community." We may even get a little love story, as Sander is apparently smitten with a "beautiful trans woman" he's considering dating. As for Jazz's other siblings, her brother Griffen is still at law school and Ari is getting her Ph.D. in Arkansas. As for newbies to Jazz's world, we'll also get to meet a plastic surgeon Jazz is interning with. There's no word yet on whether we'll see any updates from Jazz's besties, but if we had to bet, we'd say there's a better than decent chance.
This is what you'll see on 'I Am Jazz' Season 7
As for other information on "I Am Jazz" Season 7, we know it has started filming, thanks to a sweet video Jazz Jennings' older brother Sander posted to his Instagram. "Who's excited for Season 7 of "I am Jazz?!" the LGBTQ+ activist wrote in the caption on July 7. "We recently started filming the new season and I promise this season will be the best one yet!"
From the official description on The Futon Critic — and what we know about Jazz herself — this season will spend some time on how Jazz is preparing for her first year of college after taking a gap year for her mental health. The Futon Critic description also notes that we'll see Jazz enter a weight loss program after struggling with weight gain.
In another video Sander posted to his Instagram, Jazz says, "Season 7 will further highlight the strength of my family's bond! From my weight loss struggles, fun family activities..." And finishing her sentence, Sander says, "And each sibling going on separate paths."
We really can't wait.
