This Is Who Bruno Tonioli Wants On Dancing With The Stars
Each season of "Dancing With the Stars" features a cast of celebrities who trade in their day jobs for ballroom dancing lessons, in hopes of winning the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy. From athletes to actors, and reality stars to musicians, dozens of people have gotten a chance to cha-cha-cha on national television. After each dance is performed, a panel of judges offers scores, which are coupled with votes from viewers to decide who returns to dance the next week. Since its inception, "DWTS" has been judged by Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, and Len Goodman; the latter took the 2020 season off due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to Parade.
The judges get very excited to see the new cast each season, and they also really enjoy seeing the progress that the celebs make week after week. While some stars are clear frontrunners from week one, there are some dark horses who end up surprising everyone. And while the judges are a big part of the show, ABC has casting directors who work on the deals and get everyone paired up to take on the dance floor, according to E! News. That doesn't mean, however, that the judges don't have dream stars who they'd like to see compete — and Bruno has one particular person in mind. Keep reading to find out who Bruno would love to see on the show.
Bruno Tonioli thinks Meghan Markle would be 'great' on Dancing With the Stars
In a virtual interview with Extra TV back in June 2020, "Dancing With the Stars" judge Bruno Tonioli revealed that he'd love to see the Duchess of Sussex compete on the show. "[Meghan Markle would] be great," he said via YouTube. "It'd make her look accessible and funny — it'd be brilliant. Meghan, if you're watching this, please! We'd love you to do it," he added. Bruno pointed out that Meghan had moved to the California area just months before the interview took place, so it wouldn't be impossible for her to do the show — if she wanted to. "She's here now," Bruno said.
While it's unclear if Meghan is a fan of the show, we know that Prince Harry is familiar with at least the UK version. In November 2020, Harry made a virtual appearance on BBC's "Strictly Come Dancing" to surprise his friend, JJ Chalmers, who was competing at the time, according to People magazine. The report indicates that JJ had suffered very serious injuries while serving in Afghanistan with the Royal Marines. At one point during his recovery, JJ volunteered to be a part of the Invictus Games, which Harry founded in 2014.
Although Harry didn't dance on the show, he made sure to tease JJ for his "tight blue shorts" — and he had nothing but wonderful things to say about the incredible journey that JJ has been on.
Meghan Markle & Prince Harry are unlikely to do any kind of reality television show
Meghan Markle and her husband Prince Harry have been busy making all kinds of deals, including one with Netflix that will earn them millions, according to Us Weekly. As the news of these deals was being made public, rumors that Meghan and Harry were going to be a part of a "Kardashians-style reality show" began circulating, according to Vanity Fair. A source told the outlet that a reality show didn't really match the couple's style. "That would absolutely go against what they are trying to do which is make original content about important issues," the source explained.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex previously debunked rumors that the couple was going to get into reality television. "The Duke and Duchess are not taking part in any reality shows," the spokesperson told the Los Angeles Times back in September 2020. Although Meghan and Harry are busy producing a couple of new shows for Netflix, it sounds like reality TV isn't the direction they are going to go in, which suggests that Bruno's dreams of seeing Meghan on the dance floor won't ever come true.
