This Is How Jon Gosselin Lost All Of His Money

The reality TV story of Jon Gosselin and his ex-wife, Kate Gosselin, is a cautionary tale. Before they became reality TV stars, Jon was a successful IT specialist, and Kate was a nurse. The couple (and their eight kids) turned into household names with their series "Jon & Kate Plus 8."

During a 2013 interview with Entertainment Tonight (via Business Insider), Jon summed up his life after the reality show and divorce. Jon said, "I've hit rock bottom like 20 times, but then I bounce back and go somewhere else." Although he and Kate earned $22,500 per episode for their reality gig, per Business Insider, everything is more expensive with eight kids. After the divorce, Jon said it appeared he went on a party spree; he was seen frequently in NYC and Las Vegas. But Jon said he did those appearances because he got paid. Jon explained, "I went there because it was contracted, so I could earn income to pay my attorneys to protect me in court. I was living the high life because everyone was paying for it."

Business Insider reported that in 2013, Jon lived in a small cabin without a TV or internet and was waiting tables to make ends meet. Jon said, "At first I was nervous because I didn't know how people would react." But simplifying his life helped Jon get his life back in order, and he was able to support himself again. Jon Gosselin claimed TLC sided with Kate, making it hard to find another job

Jon Gosselin and his ex-wife Kate Gosselin found success with their reality series "Jon & Kate Plus 8." But after the couple's ugly divorce and the 2009 cancellation of their reality series, Jon said that he had problems finding a job. In 2013, the dad of eight told Entertainment Tonight (via Business Insider), "It's nearly impossible to find work."

In 2016, US Weekly reported that Jon did a rare interview with Steve Harvey, claiming TLC wanted him and Kate to stay together for the sake of the show. Jon told Harvey (via US Weekly), "We knew we were going to get divorced and then the network tried to keep us together for the benefit of the show. So I quit." Jon said he didn't want his divorce filmed, and he didn't want "reruns so my children can keep on watching the demise of their parents."

The former reality star said he lost everything in the divorce because the reality show changed from "Jon & Kate Plus 8" to "Kate Plus 8" after the divorce. Jon told Harvey, "I lost all my money. I lost everything. The network sided with my ex-wife." Jon also claimed TLC paid for Kate's divorce attorneys, which the network denied, per US Weekly. After his reality TV fame, Jon kept a low profile. Keep reading to learn more about Jon's career and what his relationship with his kids is like in 2021.
