What Would Really Happen If Prince Andrew And Sarah Ferguson Got Married Again?
Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew got married in 1986, and had two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, before they split 10 years later. Despite their decision to divorce, the two continued to live together at the Royal Lodge in Windsor — and they still live together today, according to The Week. "Andrew and I call it divorced to each other, not from each other. We support each other like pillars of strengths with the honor and integrity of truth," she told the Financial Times. For years, many have wondered if Sarah and Andrew would get back together, but the two have remained great friends, and have not chosen to get remarried, despite living their lives as a couple.
However, a September 10 report in Vanity Fair suggests that Sarah and Andrew are actually considering tying the knot for a second time. "Sarah and Andrew have been closer than ever in the past year. They still love and care for each other a great deal and have been living together during the pandemic. It has rekindled something and I can see a second wedding happening if it all goes Andrew's way," the source told the outlet. So, what would actually happen if the Duke and Duchess of York decided to remarry? Keep reading to find out.
Sarah Ferguson would likely get her HRH title back if she remarried Andrew
Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew have done just about everything together over the past couple of decades. Not only do they spend a lot of time together, but they also travel together, they confide in one another, and they support each other, which is key in any relationship. In August, the two were seen driving together to Balmoral, where they visited with Andrew's mother, Queen Elizabeth, according to Vanity Fair. While both Sarah and Andrew seem to maintain that they are both content with the way things are, it's entirely possible that they could exchange vows once more. If that happens, there are a few things that would change.
Although Sarah is still the Duchess of York, she lost her "HRH" title when she and Andrew divorced, according to Insider. If she and Andrew decided to wed again, she could become Her Royal Highness, Sarah, Duchess of York, which would make her a senior member of the royal family, the outlet reports. "The HRH marks the dividing line between those members of the royal family engaged in active service to the monarchy and the nation, and those who lead more private lives unfettered by public duties," according to History Extra. While accepting the title may not be a requirement, as Insider points out, Sarah will undoubtedly be offered it. "It is hard to see how she would not become once again an HRH," royal biographer Nigel Cawthorne told Insider.
Sarah Ferguson has a deep love for Prince Andrew
There seems to be a lot of rumors surrounding Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson's relationship. A source told Metro that, despite how things may appear on the outside, the Duchess of York doesn't want to get remarried. In an interview with Polsat News, Sarah explained that she "made a commitment that [she] will always live up to," according to a translation provided by the New York Post. "I kept my commitment, no matter what. People said, you got divorced. I'm divorced, not divorced ... they don't know how I feel. Divorce is one thing, but my heart is my oath, my obligation," she told the Polish outlet.
According to The Week, Sarah referred to her and Andrew as "the happiest divorced couple in the world." And while the two seem joined at the hip, they actually don't do everything together. She told the Financial Times that she and Andrew are able to do things separately, and take advantage of their large home when they need to. In fact, she revealed that they don't have breakfast together. "Have you seen Royal Lodge? It's quite big," she said.
It doesn't sound like Sarah and Andrew are in any kind of rush to remarry — if that's even on the table — but they are doing what is best for them; husband and wife, or not.
