16 And Pregnant Season 7 - Here's What We Can Tell Fans So Far
Since the premiere of "16 and Pregnant" back in 2009, millions of viewers around the world have gotten an inside look at the struggles of teenage motherhood. According to CNN, the show had a positive impact on viewers, leading to a drop in teenage pregnancies in the years since it aired. "16 and Pregnant" also spawned multiple spin-offs on MTV including, "Teen Mom," "Teen Mom 2," and "Teen Mom: Young and Pregnant," per TheWrap. Altogether, the series have followed two generations of teenage mothers as they navigate personal problems and family drama.
Of course, "16 and Pregnant" remains a staple on MTV and has been documenting the lives of pregnant high-schoolers for the past six seasons. Each season features a new cast of pregnant teenagers, and fans have been eager to find out who will be featured on the next season of "16 and Pregnant" Here's everything we know about a potential upcoming season of "16 and Pregnant."
When will 16 and Pregnant Season 7 be released?
When "16 and Pregnant" was rebooted in September 2020, it was presented as a docu-series, instead of a reality show, and documented the pregnancy journeys from multiple perspectives. "We are sharing the stories of a new generation of young parents and underscoring the impact of an unplanned pregnancy on families – beyond the moms and dads-to-be – by showing authentic and intimate moments with siblings and grandparents-to-be addressing the life change," Nina L. Diaz, President and Chief Creative Content Officer of ViacomCBS Entertainment & Youth Group, said in a statement at the time (via The Futon Critic).
As of this writing, MTV has not yet renewed "16 and Pregnant" for a seventh season. However, considering that MTV had rebooted the show after a six-year hiatus, it's safe to assume that MTV still has full confidence in the series and the new format. Per TV Show Ace, Season 6 also received great ratings, making the case for a renewal even stronger.
Who will be on 16 and Pregnant Season 7?
Since "16 and Pregnant" has not been renewed by MTV yet, there is no information about who will be featured on the show. Judging from previous seasons though, the show will focus on a different teenager in each episode. The network could also continue the stories of the teenagers we met last season.
Viewers met five new girls — Abygail Reade, Kyla Jones, Selena Gutierrez, Shelby Stults, and Taylor Luck — in the second half of Season 6 as they stepped into the world of parenting after becoming pregnant as teenagers, per Distractify. Abygail struggled with her education after welcoming her baby, while Kyla had to deal with her estranged family. Selena had to deal with infidelity allegations from her baby daddy Sean. Shelby decided to raise her baby alone after her baby daddy couldn't promise a better future for her after he impregnated his on-and-off girlfriend. Lastly, Taylor hoped to raise her baby without their biological dad and has blocked all communications with him.
If MTV doesn't pick a new batch of teens for Season 7, there's plenty of material to work with from Season 6. We're sure viewers won't mind seeing some familiar faces again.
16 and Pregnant has changed some teen moms for the better
As viewers can attest, teen moms who have appeared on "16 and Pregnant" have had dramatic transformations. Madisen Beith, who was featured on the first episode of Season 6, told The Ashley's Reality RoundUp that she has become a different version of herself after appearing on the show. "[I'm] not necessarily a completely different person, but I feel like I have changed into a completely different me," she said. "I'm happy where I am right now and I wouldn't change it for anything. Now I have my own family. Whether me and [my daughter's dad] Christian are together or not, I have my own family. I have my daughter. I have somebody that can help me through the hard times."
Meanwhile, Rachelle Perez has gotten her parents' approval after welcoming her daughter. "My parents, I think, got over it once Boston was here," she said. "As much as they didn't like me being pregnant, I think they just needed to see Boston in person for them to realize that she's here no matter what. So the fact that I was a mom, they've accepted it and come to terms with it and now are supporting me." How heartwarming!
Let's hope that there will be more inspiring stories when/if MTV renews "16 and Pregnant" for a seventh season.
